Rose, I totally agree with what you say. I dont think drugs are used properly in this day and age, because parents are lazy or are working to much and dont have time to raise their kids right. I will also bet thought that children arent as well behaved in school as trhey used to be. I make and sell educational materials to teachers and I know that there is a serious problem in schools today, because kids are allowed to misbehave at home or arnet taught propper respect. The parents expect the school to do it for them, but then half of them start sueing when the school tries to. It's a really messed up situation.

I didnt attend a catholic school in the 50's I've heard about how they are strict.

I attended a public school in the 80' I got paddled when I needed it and it really helped keep me in line. I would have been considered adhd by todays standars and maybe I was. I know I didnt pay well enough attention in school, but I still get along well enough in my life. I dont think drugs are nessasary in any but extreme cases.

Times are changing and we do have to adapt. Not long ago it took forever for people to communicate across the world, now it happens in an instant. This we have to adapt to. The world is becomming globalized and we need to find some common standards for the world to go by, since we are interacting so much more with technology like the internet and world trade.

And oil? Should the west open their own wells and pay $5/liter for gas? Or keep invading countries to secure cheap energy from the cheap labour that pumps it? What about weapons? Should the west kidnap democratically elected leaders to sell weapons to each side when a civil war starts?

From: Wiggle Biggles

That is why we vote, to make sure that our ideas are represented. We vote for the person we believe represents us best and there are checks and balances to keep one person from having to much power. Things like Bush only being able to serve four more years no matter how bad he wants to.

Why was Nader not at your debates? Why doesn't the womens league of voters orgranize your debates any longer? Why was the Libretarian candidate ( who is on the ballot on 48 states) and the Green Party candidate arrested when they showed up at the debate? That's balance?

From: Wiggle Biggles

I'm not going to worry untill the pres tries to say he gets another four more years just because. At that time I'm sure shit will hit the fan.

Not if people keep accepting laws that strip citizens of their rights.

Reread what I wrote, I dont believe in drugging children. Read it again. Nice try to lie about what I said.

At the same time I think that teachers need to get back their right to bust a childs ass to get them to pay attention.

No I wasn't trying to lie...I was posting at the same time but ended up on the phone with my local DSS to find out their stance on the situation. This has come to an impass you wish to paint me as some tin foil wearing paranoid freak which is fine as I have been called worse. I am only trying to bring to light that which most people are not aware of. And I am not a fan of Osama but sometimes that which we need to hear comes from the strangest of sources. I will concede defeat...you win. I am redirecting my efforts in another avenue which may prove more beneficial by aligning myself with an organization which is fighting against the drugging of american children. Maybe they will be more willing to fight instead of just trusting the man.

Why is it when freedom and rights of privacy comes into question there is always the guy who asks what I am hiding? So you are ok with a dictatorship...move to Afghanistan then. I love freedom. I do not need to hide anything from the government but I sure as hell don't want them to have the unalienable right to peep under my sheets.

A hearty A-MEN, Isis! I think this quote bears repeating:

They that can give up essential liberty
to obtain a little temporary safety
deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I am a foil wearing freak... but my friends love me in spite of it. :D

Foil wearing freaks are kind of like the tuning forks of society - they tend vibrate before the big music starts.

How are they going to enforce this Verichip thing? Put people in our overcrowded prison system? Fifty million of them or so?

Use our volunteer military to enforce it? Ya, I can see the youth of the US holding their parents at gunpoint :P

We already have more people imprisoned than any other nation in the world. So don't try to say they will not. And we have allowed other "paper" to be considered mandatory...you cannot work in the US without a SS card. So why is the Verichip so different. Maybe you should do a bit of research on the usability of a new tech before boohooing the possibility of its uses. But then again I am just a paranoid leftist so who knows

Isis, I dont want to try to paint you as a tinfoil hat wearer, but you automatically tried to paint me as some "the man" loving sheep.

I believe in your heart you want to do good, but maybe you need to calm down a little and not be so uptight about it. I am not a government lover, I'm not a conservative, im not even a republican, though I dont totally disagree with everything republicans say. You might say I would most closely align myself with Libertarian. I consider myself a liberal, but I dont totally agree with every liberal cause, because I think that some liberals are complete nutjobs. At the same time I think some conservative people are freeking nutjobs. What I wont do is jump on the bandwagon of instantly assuming everything the governement does is evil.

I cant understand how people think that getting rid of Saddam is such a bad thing if we do truely liberate these people and let them run their own country by having voting rights. It's better than what they had before. Of course there are a bunch of Osamas lackys in Iraq now causing both the US soldiers and the Iraqis problems and I dont know if that will be resolved easily. It's a really messed up situation over there. I dont think that it was handled real well and I blame the current administration of making very idealistic assumptions about how it would play out.

I am against corporate corruption. I am against government corruption. I am against radical ideas on either side of the spectrum in this discussion. I dont get where you assume I want bad things.

I do know that there are things in the way of our national intelligence getting the info it needs on murderers. I dont think they are taking enough time to fully think it through. I dont think they are TRYING to take away our freedom though either. Possibly leaving it open to abuse in the future, but that's why we have things called amendments.

I dont appreciate being attacked immediately for having my own opinion on things.

More freedom means more abuse. Not everyone is a good guy.

I dont agree with the drug laws though. I think the way it is handled is more harmfull than helpfull.

I don't remember attacking you...I really don't agree with your strange outlook on the drugging of children being necessary and I certainly do not agree with your idea that the patriot act is innocuous. You pretty much did call me a flaming idiot for being worried about the situation at hand. So be it. The facts are there for anyone to peruse...if you wish to. And please spare me the "I know you want to do good bull" I want what will be best for the future. I want an America that is not dipped in fear, that is not plagued with everyone being tagged a terrorist. I want my freedom full on un abridged freedom. Ohh and I am a Constitutional Libertarian.

I do agree with your right to say what you say when you want to say it...and that is what I will always fight for.

I've thought George & Laura were Cyborgs for some time now .... :D

I've lined my SL house with foil but it's so dark that I'm tripping over all the boxes of news clippings that I've pack ratted.

Recently - my SL island was dotted with crop circles and my cows were turned upside down and have funny markings on them.

My cat talks to me.

John Kerry took my shoe.

.... I'm being followed by Jeff Linden a lot.

Tommyknockers * Tommyknockers * Tommyknockers

Muhahahahahah

But really - I'm sane, I swear it. ;)

Disclaimer: I'm not making light of your thread Isis - I just can't help myself.

On the drug issue I can give you some pretty interesting sites regarding the mis-management of that war. But America needs to look at other peoples toes as well. Instead of just when our personal pinky toes are being stepped on. There are other issues. Many other issues that reflect the abuse...and just because it "always happens" doesn't mean we shouldn't point out the loopholes and out the offences.

First, concerning the verichip, I didn't say that it has already happened but I do predict it will...and secondly where have you been? When our government already improperly uses the powers that it has against the people, are you really going to say that they are not going to use these powers as a method of control. Maybe you should read further. And while you are at it read Pat I. As I said before if you do not find this scary maybe this isn't the country for you. What is terrorism...is the definition in there...I read it and didn't find it...but it is quite obvious that Americans have no fear for their freedom. We think the government exists in our best interest regardless of the facts at hand.

The very first section discusses "lone wolf" terrorists to be included in the "foriegn powers" definition. This broadens the scope to you and me.

"This provision would expand FISA's definition of foriegn power to include all persons, regardless of whether they are affiliated with an international terrorist group who engage in international terrorism."

There is no definition of international terrorism supplied within this article.

This is where you started thinking for me. It's not the country for me. I think the government exist in our best interest regardless of the facts at hand.

To me this is and attack. Saying I dont belong in this freedom loving place.

The worst I said about you is believing to much of what MM says and that was after you said I dont belong here.. More to come

So I don't realize what is going on? Alright Wiggs you are obviously the superior intellect in the US. We should all just listen to you and calm down. Lets not worry that states rights are erroding and personal freedoms are being slashed in a pace unprecedented. Thank you for calming my unfounded paranoia.

I never said you dont know whats going on, that is your delusion again. I was simply trying to discuss what the amendment language means.

Now you are talking to me in a condecending tone.

How is that an attack? First I said maybe which in political speak is obscure enough not to rate as an attack. Secondly if you find a benign statement such as that an attack then thank god you are not campaigning for office. That was definately not an attack just a statement. But this whole subject has gone off course partly due to my phone conversations with DSS so I take the blame. back on the phone so I won't be checking for a bit

How can you say they can't make you chip your baby...they can take your children away from you right now for not giving them riddlin if a teacher suggests it...go ahead trust the gov-co...don't look at the writing on the wall if you don't want to. And are you seriously saying that insurance is not tied to the government? Do you really think that? I find it amazing that ingnorance can cause such bliss that one could think that the goings on in America right now are not the most dangerous and terrorist like actions ever to hit us. No it is not a bomb that will take away our rights, it is not a plane in a building...it is comprised of people who cannot see the actions for what they are. Those who think that Rummy, Cheney and Ash have our best interest at heart.

I live in blissfull ignorance,....OH

And I'm calling you a flaming idiot?

When did I say I agreed with Runny and crew? Thanks for the words in my mouth.

Well, Isis, you have to factor in the fact that law works both ways. Not only can it be used against people, it can be used against courts. In some of these cases a foreign spy or terrorist can have rights that they dont deserve. Without writing out these restrictions certain unsavory people can fight for a persons right where they really shouldnt have any. Not just anyone can be called a terrorist, read the definition.

A case that this might apply to, is someone who is funding a terrorist organization and the only way law enforcement was able to get information was through some currently illegal electronic means. In this case a lawyer working for the group could get the case thrown out on a technicality.

Of course there is always the chance for abuse and that is why they try to define who they are talking about carefully. It doesnt say a Us citizen that is smoking a joint, it says one that is engaged in contact with a foreign power or organization.

As far as 106 is concerned, this is to allow a defence for an agent that has aquired some important bit of info normally illegal with authorization of the pres or attorny gen. I dont think the president of the united states is going to be telling an agent to go find someone smoking a joint.

Basically they are trying to keep it from taking 3 months to get an order to be able to investigate a possible terrorist backing organization or person. Beurocracy is a bitch, as I'm sure anyone that has ever worked for a corporation knows.

this is where you assumed that I did not know what is going on....but do go ahead your on a roll

Incorrect. We expect the government to announce an alien invasion but it will be a hoax. All the photos will look real, but they will be man made. They will do this to get a license to print money for the sake of repelling the alien invasion.

I'm leaving now just so we dont have to argue about this. I dont totally agree with you, but of course we are allowed our opinions. I think both of us have spent some time on the subject and we see things differently and I would like to leave it at that.

Can I respectfully leave? :)

Personally, I'd say you're better off being overzealous in guarding your rights and freedoms, than not being zealous enough about it.

Nobody's going to come along, out of the blue, and say "BAM!! no more free speech!!!" and enact that into law. Rather, it'll be death by a thousand cuts. I hope you all have a lot of bandaids... :D
