So what will we call the world in Second Life?
"Linden"?
"Happy Land"?
"Lag Land?"
"Simuworld"?
"Not There"?

It just struck me... the Second Life world doesn't have a name. We call it "the Second Life world", "the grid", and sometimes less polite things when lag gets very bad, but it doesn't have a *name*. I feel that this needs to be changed.
So what will we call the world in Second Life? "Linden"? "Happy Land"? "Lag Land?" "Simuworld"? "Not There"? ![]() _____________________

How about Eggville?
No? Lippmann-upon-Avon? Hmmm... Hippoland then? How about Second World? Or Second Earth? |

Misnomer, "Second Life" is the name of the software that gives us access to the world. It's also a pretty good description of the nature of the world. But to draw a parallel, in first life, we live in the world called "earth". In Second Life, we live in the world called _____________.
Eggy's got the right idea. I vote for "Cubeyland". _____________________

well, as nice as New Buhbuhcuhland sounds, I think we go with the already established name. The Grid _____________________

"Elsewhere", "Anywhere", "Nowhere"...
And one semi-serious suggestion: "Essell". (I agree with the simplicity of Misnomer's suggestion, but it could still be useful sometimes to easily distinguish SL-the-virtual-world from SL-the-software.) (BTW, does any one know the Greek and/or Latin for "Second Life"? that might be the basis for a decent name.) |

Vita Secunda, if my 9th grade Latin serves me right.
Although it probably does not. All I can recall at the moment is "sum, es, est, sumus, estis, sunt" and I"m pretty sure half of those are wrong! Bhodi, who just realized how many years ago 9th grade was and now has to go drink something with lots of vodka in it... |

Why "Second Earth"? It's not Earth. It's not even earth or "soil" in a literal sense.
I vote for no name at all. I haven't felt any lack of a name so far. |

isnt "Linden World" the theme park?
bbc got me. If not the boring and usual "Second Life", I'd have to go with "The Grid". _____________________

I vote for "The Grid". It has a definate notion of something artificial yet still denotes a place of being. Sure, it's not very romantic but hey, who's in romantic love with their computer?

Weirdly there are some people who become eroticly attached to computers. Annnyyywayy...
I vote for no name, its kind of like a car, some people call it a car, some call it an automobile some call it, a honda, etc. When you first "land" in SL it says "Welcome to Second Life" or something like that. Everything and all things in SL are SL, theres different regions in Second Life. Personaly it will always just be SL to me ![]() _____________________

I just call it Second Life too. As in "I'm going into Second Life now." Or "we were all seagulls and sat on planets last night in Second Life."
