Ok, maybe this has come up before and I just haven't delved that far into the forum archives to find it, but I've posed the question in game to a fair amount of people... and to date nobody has given me an actual answer. The world of Second Life is clearly not "Earth." It has similar features - water, atmosphere, man-made erosion... heck, it even has celestial bodies in the heavens - our very own moon from the appearance of it in the night sky. Yet nobody knows what this world is CALLED. Now, in real life I am one to prefer NON-labels of things, people, etc., but the simple truth of the matter is that human beings like to compartmentalize and put ID tags on things so they can find common ground and whatnot. So my question is WHAT IS THE NAME OF SL'S WORLD? We refer to the entire experience as "SL." We know our "home" server/sim names. We may even know our way around based on the names of adjacent (and even very far away) simulators... We have landmarks that can take us (via fly-power or the oh-so-affordable teleport) pretty much wherever we want. Yet, in all of this we have no name for our second world... ( where laughter was king!) Now that the world (nameless, though it may be) is open/accessible for another 2 hours a day, the chances that we will spend LESS time there is slim at best... We shape this world nightly. We customize it to our tastes, working with groups of friends, neighbors, and even strangers to turn it into something that we, and the public that doesn't even KNOW about it yet...will desire. So what're we calling SL's "planet" when it goes live? I know! We'll call it Lindenland! Or not. Any ideas/feedback on this? Maybe the answer lies on the official site and I just don't recall reading it during my first exposure to this amazing "game," but if I did, so did everyone else that I've asked! Hehe...so surely I can't be the only one with a perplexed reaction to the world's identity crisis (or maybe it's just mine)! -Voodoo

The world's name is Mervyn P. Dershowitz. It doesn't like to talk about it.

My vote is to call it SL-land.
Another name would be LindenWorld, which is what SL was called back in the alpha days...

What about something that still reflects "Linden" but is a bit more interesting than "LindenWorld".
Maybe the planet could be called Lindonia or Lindenus or some subtle variation like that?

Well we all say we're going to be "in world" so I think its just "World".
That being said, who ever mentioned it was a planet? We never say we are "in" earth. Also, the map clearly shows World as flat. Laugh as you may, World is a flat non planet (they laughed at Columbus too).

Wogarlmed is the bad guy in this epic being born in my head One idea - planets are often named either by thier composition (earth) or after some god/titan/ice giant so we could call it 'Bits' or 'Philip' hehehe

Voodoo Roark!
It is your decision.
You got there first.
Now, some of you may get upset with this, but as far as I know, the first time I ever heard the concept of naming SL's planet was from Voodoo Roark.
If someone else has mentioned it, please show me the post.

This of course raises the question, can servers be joined in a closed loop way. That is, if we have just three sims, Mina, Lusk and Perry (say), with the east edge of Minna joined to the west edge of Lusk, and the east edge of Lusk joined to the west edge of Perry, could the east edge of Perry be joined to the west edge of Mina? From: someone Originally posted by Jericho Powers A higher order matrix. You, sir, are my new hero.

NOOOOOoooooooooooooooOOOOO! Actually that might be kind of cool BUT that means less "coast" and then things would have to be rearranged every time a new sim came online. If I built across sim lines, one day I might sign in and find half my place a sim or more away from the other half. hmmmm... The world is FLAT I tell ya!!
