The city of Lincoln is bypassed by most visitors to the UK, and that's a pity...

Luckily for us, it also means that Lincoln is bypassed by most occupants of the UK as well, so while some may say it's a boring place, I call it 'peaceful'.

The original poster scans like a poorly educated American. Non native English speakers usually make different kinds of mistakes. So do Brits, etc.

I agree with you on this, I just wondered if the original poster scanned more like an incompletely educated American. Possibly a young one.

But, I suppose Jolene and Vestalia are right. That's not a very helpful observation. I'm usually more tolerant than this, too.

Julianna, I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience in Second Life (or several?), and particularly sorry that you were apparently abused by a group you yourself helped to found. I hope your future experiences in Second Life are more pleasant. I have met so many wonderful and helpful people here, including Lindens. I hope you are able to meet some too, and that eventually more positive experiences will outweigh your earlier unhappy ones.

The best advice I can offer to you, in addition to the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would have done unto you), is, if you wouldn't do it in Real Life (e.g. give personal property to a group, or form a corporation or other organization with people you don't know), perhaps it's best to think twice before doing it in Second Life, either. Especially when still relatively new.

I personally have not had a bad experience with any Lindens. I have with SL's system but not with any of them personally. I actually applaud them for all their hard work in bringing us this great world of SL and how could I ever complain even if I had a problem.

Hehe, gasp, you mean you don't have a "time-out" chair ? These have been proven to cause multiple syntax errors in later use.

Maybe inadequately educated is a better term. In the U.S. most people have graduated high school by age 18. The minimum legal age to be in SL is 18. Thus my observation about ... by the time you graduate from high school.

SL aside. How profoundly do poor writing skills impact ones ability to do well at work, especially as the demand for literacy increases. It's just sad.

This has gone off topic for this forum I'm afraid, so I'll leave it here.

"Time Out Chair"? What kind of crap is that? I thought kids were supposed to *stand* in time out.

With heavy textbooks.

In their hands.

Outstretched at arms length.

For a minimum of one hour.

And of course, the time starts over if they drop the books.

Time out chairs are a lousy idea it just gives them time to plot the next bad thing they are going to do. Fear of your mother smacking your ass usually puts a stop to all plotting.

Or face, depending on the infraction... hehehe For instance, mouthing off definitely deserves a smack on the cheek rather than a smack on the ... cheek.

Hrm.

Oh well. You get me, I'm sure. ;-)

In one aspect we can quite arguably discuss the methods of punishment a parent should take with thier children.

I had and do mean had a friend that I knew in the military. He got out about the same time I did and was from california. He met a woman there and they had a little boy. They came to our home for a visit and we went out to dinner.

Mind you my son is a brat on occasion but he knows his place and when to behave in public.

Well thier 5yr old son was at the dinner table and stood up on the chair screaming yah yah yah yah while we were talking.

His mother said "Brandon use your indoor voice or I will put you in Time out...."

My wife of 11 years saw the look on my face and grabbed my arm to hush me up...

Anyway I was thinking....TIME OUT!!!....Lady that boy needs a Knock out!!!

Needless to say after 20 minutes of this kid doing this my son polightly got up came over to me and whispered. Daddy am I that bad?

I said no son but since your a kid if your tired of it do what kids do in school.

Needless to say my son put him on his ass and told him either Shut up or he would do it again.

They left that night...

Havent been friends since.....sad

Damn... I tried to read it, I really did. Those paragraphs hurt me. They made me itch for my red pen.
I tried too. I am not dense, and I wanted to follow it, but I haven't a clue about what happened here.

I love Char Linden! Bubbles..Phillip...Jeska...well they are all pretty great!

We need to be really careful in how we judge the parenting of others. I spank my kids, I hate it but I do it when necessary. I strongly believe in spankings. But......here's my experience in judging how other people parent.....it used to be so easy for me to say "man that kid needs a spanking" and look down on people that "let" their kids act like hellions. Then I became the mother of a child with, get this, not just ADHD but Extreme ADHD and Autism. Poor kid got a tripple whammy. He is soooooooo hard to handle. I don't let him act bad because of his condition but there are times and a lot of them every day that he just does not listen.
He has a little brother that is "well" and he's the complete opposite. Sometimes it's NOT the parenting that's the reason kids don't behave. Now I'm the one that gets the looks in the stores when my autistic adhd son runs screaming down the isle. In his case spanking is not always the answer. There's so many other things for me to decipher. Like is he getting too much stimulation, considering his sensory issues, are the lights bothering him or hurting his ears, or some other sound that I can't hear hurting his ears. Some kids can hear lights 4 rooms down and it hurts their ears. Mine isn't that sensitive but he does freak at the sound of a toilet flushing and the school bell sets him off an entire day. :( I could go on and on and on about my son and things that make him go crazy. If you were around him you wouldn't realize he was autistic, you'd just think he was a brat and needed a good but whipping. Only if you knew he was autistic and had a baseline education on autism would you know that most of the time he can't help himself. It's how he deals with his world.

Waaaaahhhhh! Good God, if your Linden experience is that miserable, leave. Some people set their expectations so high that no matter what level of support they receive, it's not good enough.
