Snooping on a neighbor wrong?

If I found one of those on my land, I would
1) File an abuse report
2) Delete it
3) Add the owner to the ruder of the two ban scripts on my land
4) Consider consulting a lawyer.

I know of two people who were suspended for using public channel listeners, and the objects removed. So I don't quite understand why at least one person here says that the Lindens don't mind. Of course, it comes down to the usual inconsistencies we find with Linden enforcement I guess.

But the fact is, they DO mind. As would pretty much all the people I know. In fact, I actually abuse reported a version of this right in the shop where it was being sold... which is another thing... I would NOT buy from ANY shop that sold these devices. I'm not going to be spied on while I shop, thanks.

I don't think it matters one bit who's land its on. That's just a technicality to try and justify the morality of it. If I have microphones placed in all the corners of my garden to spy on my neighbors, its still wrong. Until we have the ability to stop all text being heard outside your individual plot, at least. And I think this kind of device and the kind of morally corrupt morons that would use one is a good argument for having that feature.

These objects are wrong. And you, Yuki, are promoting something that is also wrong. Get a life and stay out of everyone else's (and I say that as kindly as possible.)

But this is the crux of the problem, isnt it?

'They' say.. "but you said it in public chat (or.. on MY land)... it's fair game! It's not private!"

'We' say... "there was no one else within earshot... it could be safely assumed that we were talking privately (and wouldn't perhaps have said the same had the situation been otherwise)."

Sadly, people will twist anything to suit their own agenda, and conveniently bypass all the arguments against in order to get there.

I don't even know why Yuki bothered to start the thread. Our disapproval is obviously not going to stop her using them - in fact she's built her own version to propogate them further to people. Maybe she just wanted to appear on a lot of land banning scripts. She's earned a place on all mine.

Seriously though... If I found one of these on my land I'd be extremely pissed. Crap like this is why my land is set autoreturn. But since not all the land around mine is set autoreturn as well, I guess I'll have to find a script scanner.

I guess they are against the use of the device ; instead of its existence.

I agree that using these, even on your land, even if said land is big and the device won't catch neightbours' conversation, is wrong and against the TOS.

1. Yuki SOUNDS like a minor, but MAY just be someone who doesn't speak English well.

2. What kinda asshat builds a device like this.

3. Anyone who uses these devices anywhere but in their own home (and maybe not even there) is an assclown of the highest caliber, and should be permabanned from SL.

I for one would never do this as I find this a highly immoral act. Whats next shoving a "bug" up everyone's ass? Is this a useful tool? Yes it can be one. However I would never use it no matter how useful it is. I for one respect other peoples privacy, ya know......
