In CT for 87 octane its starts about $1.83/gal and up.

I get 30-33mpg depending on how often i sit in traffic. Commute 100 miles a day (mostly highway) and I get about 420 miles to a tank. I fill up every 4 days or so. But doing a major overhaul to the car this weekend so I may end up getting a few more mpg out of it. Its a 97 vw jetta.

Would love to have a diesel and get 49mpg. would only use 2 gals a day then!

I would take the train - there are some in CT, but there is none following I-84 from waterbury to danbury. :(

*** added part
when I drove to California in april the highest prices I saw were in CA - $2.80/gal for regular unleaded. But this was right as you drive out of Arizona on I-40 into a CA border town (forgot name). When I was in Corona they were about $2.17/gal.

Gas prices will need to be a lot higher than $3 for a hybrid car to make economical sense. Generally for a hybrid car you pay ~$20k for the equivolant of a ~$13k car to get about 15 mpg better gas mileagle.

The best comparison is the Honda Civic because it is the only car I know of that comes in both a Hybrid and non Hybrid model. The hybrid boasts 51mpg while the Coupe will get 38. Thats $7,000 to get 13 more mpg, 53% more money for 34% improvement in fuel efficiency.

To make the difference pay for itself over 10 years ($700 savings a year) you have to be spending over $2,000 per year on gas, or almost $40 a week. I'm not saying that driving a big truck won't ever do that, but you aren't getting a big truck or SUV - you are getting a honda coupe. If you drive 60 miles a day, 300 a week then gas prices have to reach about $5 / gallon just for you to break even after 10 years.

Hybrid motors from an economical standpoint do not make sense. Now if you are trying to save the environment etc, then sure the extra money may be worth it to you.

The big headlines on the news last night was that gas is now $2.00 a gallon. I am guessing that is the premium stuff. I pay 1.79 a gallon for the "cheap" stuff.

I live outside of Nashville, TN YeeHaw :)

AAH! That's scary, Loki. Feel fortunate folks, that you don't live on an island where gas needs to be ferried over. Though our high gas prices might be tied to the fact that there's a big healthcare strike, and the other unions are trying to go out as well. The high prices might have to do with the possibility of a ferry strike. Then again, maybe they're just ripping us off. It seems to be climbing 2-3 cents a litre a /day/ around these parts.

In Dallas it seems to be averaging $1.75 for regular, but of course my turbo sucks down the 93 octane, so my last tank was $1.95/gal

I drove back home from KC w. my significant other nearly on fumes because I refused to pay 1.76 us per gallon of the cheap gas, (I knew she could push if I ran out, she has amazing legs.. er.. I digress) After going nearly 60 miles on empty I get home to 1.75 pre gallon.

Looking at what some of you other people are paying for gas I think I would have opted for a bicycle months ago. ;)

I don't look anymore..

But, I think the price for Premium (91), which my turbo feeds on, is running around $2.60/gal. here. Regular seems to be around $2.40/gal.

I want a diesel, dammit!

I freaked a couple of days ago when I paid $1.63 per gallon (regular unleaded)... I haven't seen prices this high in forever! I remember just a couple of years ago when I could get it for 82 cents a gallon or less.

I live in Georgia.. supposedly we have the cheapest gas in the country (though I've never validated that). *shrug*

I couldn't imagine paying more than I am now!

In the last 2 days it jumped from 1.75 here to now 1.89 and while its not higher than what alot of you are having to pay a .14 cent jump in that short of time makes me feel like I just got bent over and was never even kissed.

This thread makes me appreciate what I have to pay for gas inside the Beltway. I can still find gas around $1.84 in some neighborhoods.

Overall, we Americans are lucky. Since we burn the most gas, we have the lowest prices. Lowest prices at the moment.

Because of this thread, I whipped my head around in a cab the other day and caught the gas price sign. I wanted to make it VERY precise..the cost of diesel at this gas station was $2.25!!!

P.S. - Compared to prices I've seen on this thread, I thank my lucky stars!!!
