No Transfer can be a hassle. If I really don't like an outfit, or don't use an item much, I'd love to give it to someone else, but I understand the bug problem there. Now if I want to gift a no transfer item, I will contact the creator and see if they will work with me.

However, I want Mod!!! I want to be able to tighten, loosen, shorten clothing, and retexture a couch, and resize a print.

I hate buying clothes that aren't mod.

No worries Ahkin, many have in the past and many more will in the future. Used to LL passed out a .txt manual with signing in but people never read it so became pointless to continue to update. I still have mine printed out all 200 pages of the Manual and OLD LSL stuff. But just like my RL job there is so much information here sometimes its just a matter of who you ask and where to find it. After 2 years of being here I still learn something new every day.

Please do not take this the wrong way

But if you are good at loosening , tightening , shortening and all that to make your clothes great why are you buying them and not making them?

I so suck at it , everything i do or edit looks like I am either going to be an Ice Skater or Making an outfit for Richard Simmons to judge a Solid Gold contest.

In my humble opinion, NO TRANSFER annoys me. First, you are "Leasure Shopping" and see an awsome thing to buy for a special friend.... says "NO TRANSFER", I move on to another item and avoid the hassle of looking in "search", type the difficult name, then wait for the lag to see if that name appears, then discovered I typed it wrong, then try again and then finally the name comes up, You found out that the seller is NOT ONLINE??? grrrrr

Writes a message saying, "Hi I want to buy your item. I "enjoy the transfer potention you have on your item I want to give, therefore, It is ok to waste my time here. My special friend can wait until you decide to come online, so I can buy your item, take your time and get back to me to buy your extraordinary item" grrr...

Well, welll.... sorry, but when I want to buy something for a friend, I want to send it quick to my friend so he/she can enjoy it immediately especially if I am having fun just shopping with my friend....

When I see a NO TRANSFER, I move on and that seller LOST the sale, someone else get it from me. Another thing, I don't like much wasting time over an IM with a seller when I can do so many other things. My time is more valuable than that.

Well, I am not the only one that feels that way. I am a designer and I am glad at least someone bought a gift from me 5 times and give to their friends. Still, I make money from it.

Just a humble opinion.

Because I can use sliders to do all that, but need patience and skill to actually create clothing with templates. And I come up short in both of those attributes.

Because clothes made and modeled on one AV may look different on another - there are so many different variables to take into consideration. Modify allows you to make an article longer in the arms - shorter in the legs, baggier, lower neckline..

Basically it's the difference between making a suit, and having the hems brought in to fit you.

I can adjust the cut and length of my real life clothes with a sewing machine, but there is no way I could sew an entire outfit and have it look as good :)

Siggy.

I must say i did like the option of the two types. Sale both a Copy plus Mod but no Transfer and a Transfer (no copy or Mod). If a person decided this which you all think should sale for higher price? I think teh Copy and Mod one. Hheheheheeh

Just my not so humble subtle hint ...hehehehehe

I dont mind the IM the seller if it really true they will work with me, I am kinda of excited about the idea. Ofcourse if I waited to thelast minuite or didnt have time to get it in time and suddenly rushing and owner not online - I would have to also Move on to one that is transfer. But atleast i have options.

No transfer can indeed be a tad irritating... case in point, for me recently: I wanted to get a someone I had just met a christmas gift. Due to the holiday being hectic in RL, too, I had to go about this in a last minute fashion. I wanted to get her a nice up-do hair attachment. This became a chore, as most shops didn't specify what their permissions were, or they were no-trans. I ended up buying one, hoping like hell it was transferrable because it was boxed, but it wasn't, and soon gave up on my quest and opped for some other kind of gift.

And so, I make 90% of my products boxed - so they can be given away as gifts or what not.

Most my animations are no transfer because people sometimes like to use them in muliple attachments and different over ride scripts. Its either let them have 1 copy and use it in only one item but be able to give that one copy away, or make it so they can use the animation with many scripts but not transfer it.

It's a very tough problem - when I create plants I create them copy/mod and No Transfer. This allows the buyer to make multiple copies of a plant without having to buy multiple copies and that is a nice advantage to someone who is landscaping a large area. People need to be able to re-size the plants so I have modify on.

I have had people IM me and ask for transfer because they want to give the item as a gift. I have no problem with that and remove the copy option and set it to Transfer.

Siggy described the choices really well. In SL, it's not rare to get booted from your vehicle at a sim border (please, LL, fix that). If you get booted from your only copy of a no-copy vehicle, it's probably gone for good. If you get booted from a copyable vehicle, you just rez a new one and be on your way.

It would be nice if the permission system let you transfer copyable vehicles and leave no copies behind, but it doesn't. I can't sell vehicles that are both transferable *and* copyable, because then I'd sell one and suddenly everyone would be exchanging copies, if not reselling multiple copies.

Your suggestion to create a script that returns the vehicle is interesting, but it wouldn't be reliable. Vehicles can get deleted in-world or land in a no-script area. In either of those cases, the vehicle would be gone.

Gifts... my "holovendors" have the option of buying the vehicle as a gift certificate. You can buy the certificate, give it to whomever, and they can exchange it at the holovendor for the actual vehicle.

Please also note the Vendor King solution has Gift Vouchers which are transferrable. So you can buy the voucher for a no-transfer item, give the voucher to whoever and then they rez the voucher and Touch it to receive their gift.

Vendor King is in private beta at Timeless Gadget Shop in Wilmot.

So after the recipient receives the voucher, rezzes it, and touches it, is the gift item automatically sent to the recipient? Or does he/she just get the money and still has to physically go buy the item?

Gets the gift no matter where they are.

utterly stupid poll by the way, no thats not biased in the slightest.

No transfer is the only way to protect goods you sell that are copyable. Its a necessity to prevent people from basically stealing yer creation.

As to why goods need to be copyable.. look at yer lost and found folder, theres yer answer... also any clothing or attachments needs to be copy enabled to allow people to make outfits

Its clothes mostly i wish was not "No Transfer' but i totally respect the situation if its protecting from an exploit.

The exploit is specific for clothing. Most creators will be happy to drop a gift version on someone for you.
