What will this police force be doing, and what real Authority will they have?

And, if I ask them nicely to get off my land, will I get orbited?

We protect land owners from griefers and any other problems they have whether it be a time by time basis or on a regular basis.

lol sounds like the classic Mafia routine. "pay us, or who knows, bad things might happen to you... We'll protect you."

May I suggest the term "security force" then? It sounds more accurate to me and will likely raise far fewer eyebrows.
While security does police an area, the term "police" usually implies government organized and sanctioned. |

They should have no right to enter other ppls land, without their permission, one would assume. Unless it's a commercial property, shop or club? I don't imagine they would have any reason to enter residential areas unless asked to do so. _____________________

All of you would-be police and self-appointed Second Life gestapo troops can kindly shove your pretensions up your virtual asses. I'll "police" my own land, thank you.

PRIVATE Security Force would be an even better description. _____________________

Yet Another Police Force
08-28-2007 07:42
Not another one - everybody who starts one of these seems to think they're the first person ever to come up with the idea. And unfortunately, they usually turn out to be a band of mercenaries, just like the last couple hundred groups that went before them.
The sad truth is that nobody trusts a police force for hire. They're simply for sale to the highest bidder. The people with the actual power to do this work are the landowners themselves. If you want to help, learn what landowners need to know to protect themselves, and then turn around and redistribute that information. That single thing has done more against griefing in the last year than all the so-called police forces combined. |

I like the term mercenary.
If you are being paid by a private organization they want you to enforce there rules and not any type of social justice. |

Hmm somehow I doubt it, but if they come onto your land nicely will they be asked to nicely leave? If they're nice and follow the rules, I don't see any reason to ask them to leave. Maybe I was too harsh on the OP but somebody who joined this month and is already starting up a "police force" makes me a bit twitchy... _____________________

Perhaps:
"Bouncers for Hire" "Professional Babysitters" "Rent-a-cops" "Hall Monitors" I could certainly see the value for HIRING someone to promptly Ban&Eject griefers during the hours when you're not there to do it yourself. Could even leave a "big red button" on the parcel that called the "mercs" to respond. ![]() (obviously they can't do much without explicit group/parcel permission from the land owner to take action) |

To put it all to rest
08-28-2007 12:29
We are truely a helping force.
I am the chief of the Police Force. We base ourselves around profesionalism and hence we pay our officers to act properly. We do not ask for money for our services, and when responding to "calls", we have a dispatcher contacts the property owner, notifying them of the disturbance and requesting clearnance for our officers to remove the griever for them. If you do not want our assistant, you simply tell the dispatcher "No, i don't want your officers here." We rarely use firearms, we instead use verbal communication first, and if we need to forcefully remove a griever, we use very silent, small batons, without shouting commands. However, if it comes to it, our officers are trained to use firearms. We can be hired as a security force, but rather we are a proactive company, helping those who need it for free. Since we are proactive, and try to prevent crime in any area we can, we are classified as a "Police Force", not a security force. We have NO authority, as we state in our group profile. We never order anyone, rather, we warn rule breakers that they are indeed breaking rules, and action may be taken against them. - Insin Zabelin |

I prefer the term "Rent-A-Thug".
If your crew is using small clubs and trained to but rarely use firearms, I hate to say it but you're going to need back up against serious griefers. Having a armed contigent of goons in a crowded club who decide to use firearms to take a perp down, bad idea indeed. Even I cringe about firing into a crowd despite that AT-4 incident ![]() Perhaps you do mean well with your endeavor but based upon how previous incarnations of security forces behaved, you'll understand why so many are against your idea. You've left a lot of blanks. You pay your officers yet how are you getting your income to pay them? If I'm not having an issue with griefers, why would I want to sign up? If I've got a club, I've already handpicked my own team. How do the dispatchers know there is an issue? And where? And what if there is no response from the property owner? The whole thing just kind of sounds like a protection racket. I don't run a club, most of my land is open to the public. Only a small part is restricted, so if somehow they get past my seucrity system, and are causing a disturbance on my land (can't speak for anyone but myself here), I'll just pop over and wipe them up with my hud and/or land owner tools. _____________________

If you do not want our assistant, you simply tell the dispatcher "No, i don't want your officers here." Griefers thrive on opposition. Your group sounds like it will generate endless amounts of fun for them. Leave the firearms completely out of the equasion, attempting to rely on them will only result in ridicule. This whole thing sounds more like a bad role playing 'game'. It will turn situations that may have defused on their own into larger dramas... and it will end badly. And what do those small 'batons' do anyway? |

We are truely a helping force. No thanks. I don't want you help! I was completely in defense of you guys. I assumed it was a bad choice of wording. After reading your post I see nothing but "vigilante" written all over it. You have a lot of nerve classifying yourselves as "police". Your arrogance is very frightening. |
