no theyre clogged with absolute idiots, udnerage or overage, Ive said it 50 times and i'll sya it again. AGE IS A PHYSICAL NUMBER, and therefor completely irrelevant to mental maturity. I'm 18 so I don't give a shit anymore, but the mature ones are usually smart and stay away form the forums, so you never really see them,

Once again, your immaturity is shining through. You are missing the point...

Mental maturity doesn't matter a bit if you are lying about your age and entering an adults-only area. It is LEGAL maturity and responsibility.

Also..show me a teen that doesn't think they are "mentally mature". I sure thought I was when I wa sa teen. Now I know I wasn't (and probably never will be). ;)

I know you like to think that you are an exception to the rule, but you aren't, nor are any of the mentally mature teens flooding SL.

Age is an indicator of maturity more often then not. Life experience, over the years, tends to help mature someone and give them a broader base for perceptions, values, judgement, responsibility, etc.

This isn't always the case of course, but age is indeed still a fairly accurate indication.

A 15 year old teen will not have the hindsight of a 40 year old adult, on the average.

Wordy-McWord. You really have to have an understanding of the world that most minors do not possess. Heck, many *adults* don't have the levle of maturity for SL. :P

I'm not sure I agree with that...Certainly nothing sexual should be going on between a RL adult and a RL minor, but one of the big problems teens have is that they don't feel they can talk to their elders. There's nothing wrong with having a teenaged friend...and there's *certainly* nothing that says any interaction between an adult and a minor automatically needs a sexual connotation associated with it.

That said, "Don't Stand So Close To Me" is an *awesome* song. :D

It's a dangerous place for many folk. But it's nothing a box of truffles wouldn't solve. ;)

Hypothetically then, you wouldn't care if your 16 year old daughter was bestest online buddies with a 53 year old man that you know absolutely nothing about and is influencing her thoughts??? Sorry but I do care. Minors should not be even online friends with adults, they are impressionable and WILL be influenced by the adult with practically no control from their parents or accountability for the adult friend.

Wait.. I'm confused. Didn't Erin-whatever admit in another thread that he was in fact, a minor, or am I seeing things?

Of course I'd care, dear. Parents should know about all of their child's friends. As a parent, I should be involved in whom my child is communicating with. I am not advocating giving minors free rein over all the Internet. I am saying that I don't think I should let my kids live in a world of fear. I would talk with them, and make sure I know who they're talking to. As long as I'm doing my job as a parent, then I'm doing everything I can to protect them from harm.

Of course, the vast bulk of child molestation comes from friends and family. :( But there's *nothing* to be done about this...as I've said before in other threads, you cannot protect yourself (or others) from something that's unknown. All I can do is make sure I watch my children as best I can, and that I'm there to hold their hand and hug them tight when needed.

As much as you "think" you can know some guy on the other end of the internet typing away and influincing your teenager... urmmm... noooo... you really know nothing about this person... do you???

If you really are doing "everything" you can to protect your teenager from harm you would never allow them to have any kind of relationship with a nameless, faceless adult who is miles and miles away with no accountability for his actions.

So how would you suggest LL test the maturity of the teens that are flooding the main grid?

And do you think the parents of these mentally mature teens will be fine with them cybering a 50 year old guy?

That's without bothering to get into punctuation errors, usage errors, and the like.

If you want to be taken seriously, perhaps you should attempt to be coherent? It might also help to tone it down a little and use a little reason. How could you have any idea what percentage of teens, if any, are "mentally mature enough" to be here, whatever that means? Why do you think sneaking into a place where you clearly aren't wanted, and where you potentially put other people at risk by your very presence, is mature at all?

Spot on David.

Also it is not about how mature a teenager is or thinks he/she is, it is about nameless, faceless adults gaining intimate trust of teenagers and influencing them with no accountability whatsoever. It is completely inapropriate for any adult to have this kind of relationship with a teenager, especially one that thinks she is all grown up and mature.

Probably not, but at least it wouldn't make the evening news and end with someone in jail...

Haha, sometimes I post on forums, and I find it annoying to use proper grammar because all the idiotic teens spam you to death with "OMFG ITS TEH INETRNET NTO A 5TH GRADE PROJECT ZOMGZOMG! USE LIKE 1337SPEEK DAWGZOR!". Therefor I ahve adapted to dumbass-speak, still trying to recover from the scar in my mind from hearing 1337speek.

Because teens having sex with other teens is kinda old (dawn of mankind) news and hard to get folks riled up about. Of course...one could say that 50 year olds having sex with teens is kinda old (dawn of mankind) news too, but it still never fails to sell good advertising space.

j00 r 5p34king 2 5um1 wh0 c4n b07|-| 5p34k 4nd r34d 1337, but it doesn't prevent me from being able to also use correct grammar. In all fairness, grammar and spelling are not by themselves accurate gauges of a person's maturity or even necessarily a person's intelligence (a very bright person can still be dyslexic and/or have been given a poor education only with respect to grammar specifically), but there are other things ... other "cues" we're looking for that go beyond simple spelling and sentence structure.
