Linden Labs has restricted access to Second Life to people aged 18 or older. As a private company, they are within their rights to do this. This means that it could be considered a criminal offense to access their servers under false pretenses.

If the 16 year old is mature, he'll understand the limits that he's currently under, and why he's under said limits. There are many other venues Internet-wise that allow teens to interact with older friends. I also wouldn't rule out Teen Second Life; residents who take the Teen Grid seriously have a level of maturity that our hypothetical 16 year old may enjoy.

hey! I was underage on Sl a few days ago (18 now) and I ahve to say, I SEE MROE IMMATURITY FROM COMPLAINING ADULTS. than I do from teens on the main grid. You should bring up your concerns about the teen grid to LL on the teen grid.

As for perfect spelling, while it is nice, it isn't the end all or be all of maturity, but context and clarity of message, and how one approaches a topic, is very telling.

I'm not sure I agree with that...Certainly nothing sexual should be going on between a RL adult and a RL minor, but one of the big problems teens have is that they don't feel they can talk to their elders. There's nothing wrong with having a teenaged friend...and there's *certainly* nothing that says any interaction between an adult and a minor automatically needs a sexual connotation associated with it.

That said, "Don't Stand So Close To Me" is an *awesome* song.
