It turned out that it was my mention of the writer Michael Moorcock.


Presumably pronounced "Moorco"? ;)

Active Worlds is really shooting themselves in the ass for transitioners who, say, want to join AW after having been on SL. (As unlikely as it seems, I'm leaving it in as a theoretical scenario.) It discourages them from bringing up their past experience and familiarity with another online world so they can ease into a new one, and that all-out sucks.

Yeah, I guess you could "get around" it by saying "SL", but the damage has already been done.

Add to the fact you don't get a kick for saying the names of MANY MMO-type environments, so it makes it obvious who's being targeted!

Let me also add that I am now automatically ejected from "awgate" upon trying to login without so much as a human message. :p

I set my guest name in AW to Second.Life and just stood around. A moderator said I had to change my name and stop promoting competition. I refused to change it. I urged everyone to say my name out loud, as it has magical powers. Kicked. LOL.

I have never noticed Second Life auto-kicking anybody based on the words they use - though I am often reluctant to use the words "Real Life" out of mortal fear of being ejected back into it.

I agree I coulda toned it down a tad but I was actualy haveing fun even thou my fun was drivitive of breakin there rules by havein that username and usen our phrases...

language?... That Would be the language of a user thats never had the freedom of custom AVs such as ours... all they do is *bleh* walk... No Vehicles, No User Made Animations, No SL in my list... They can keep there crappy world I just uninstalled it...
Now if we can get a Linden to go in and "Chat"?
in all retrospect I would rather watch Grass Grow... I used to plat thouse that I listed except "There" wich I tryed once and that was a sad excuse for a 3d interface

BTW, in all fairness, "There" isn't banned but "There.com" is. If they banned the common word they'd really be double, triple, maybe even quadruple-compounding the damage! :O

Gosh, actually, in all seriousness, this was a humbling experience for me. I am reminded how good I have it here in SL. :D

They do ban There.

Problem is, There is a very common word in the english language - so they ban There.com instead.

Try it. :P

Re: Immigration Officer, thats just a name they picked for the "system announcements" from the Universe server which reports stuff like: World join, admin announcements, etc'.

The real "Gestapo" here is Customs Aide - thats the moderating bot.

In the Gate world, she can be usually found either on the top of the globe (fly with the grey + and - keys), or standing on the rim of the floor circle.

For people who were SO concerned about the safety of their children, they sure were arrogant, nasty people to newcomers wondering why there was censorship of common words.

Well .... The first time I discovered activeworlds was somewhere around 2000 - 2001 (I think) and I was pretty much impressed with the world then. Back then it was free and users were able to create their own worlds with the land that was allocated to them. Similar to SL. I liked it. I wanted to get an account there even.

However, I think (mis)management of the world was the cause of its own downfall. There were no updates, owning land was very pricey. And not easy to get support from the staff there.

They have in serious competition with other 3d communities and definitely know it. If they were confident of their services, there wouldnt be a need to ban the word.
