The problem is that the hezbollah has enough wepons and "soldiers" that the Lebanese could not simply kick them out.
They get support from Iran.
So the situations REALLY stinks for all sides (not for hezbollah, for them the situation cant stink enough)

Im kinda disappointed in Israel, they need to stop holding back. They are fighting a half-assed war with a terrorist organization that only needs to survive in order to declare vicotry. Im not saying Israel should lay waste to all of Lebanon, but at the very least launch a full scale invasion of Southern Lebanon. First off the UN has been around since the end of World War II. In that time they have done absolutely nothing worth mentioning in the arena of Major World Affairs. Sure they have started some nice feed the children type organizations and thats good and all, but every time they stick their nose into global events they only serve to make things worse. SO UN STAY THE HECK OUT OF EVERYONES WAY AND DO SOMETHING YOU ACTUALLY CAN DO LIKE PLANT TREES OR WHATEVER.

Well at the moment Israel tries to reduce the real big stacsh of rockets the hezbollah tries to fire onto Israel, wich is pretty much understandable.
the only thing is the way they are doing it, i am pretty shure there could be a way they could do it with the LKabanese gouvernment together, wich in turn is simply not powerfull enough to kick hezbollah out cuz they are about the same force as the Lebanese military, even assumoing said military as only non hezbollah recruits.

{Its as strong as its members, the nations belonging to the UN make it.
So if some countries use the UN for there little powerplays the UN (wich is made up by the countries taking part) nothing CAN happen.
So as soon our dear politicans stop to act like little kids and act like adults there could be somehting going on.
Other trouble is that the UN does quite a lot, and that pretty good, but good news are lousy news regarding the press, missions without bodyparts littering the ground are simply not "sexy"

Honestly, I don't know what Israel was thinking. It could have gotten rid of thousands of tax burdens in prisons AND get their soldiers back. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

Maybe I just see life as being more precious than a stupid disagreement because I'm an atheist. Oh well.

Lemme refresh your memory here. The "disagreement" in question here is whether Isreal has a right to exist at all. Hezbollah believes it doesn't-Isreal disagrees. How is a prisoner excahnge going to solve that?

And do you honestly believe that if they hand over a couple of able bodied terrorists over to Hezbollah, Hezbollah is just going to stop what they're doing? They're gonna go "Well, we've got these two back, let's just leave Israel be." Or do you think it will be more like, "Hey, it worked for these two, I wonder how many we can get next time?"

Once again all the outrage is directed at Israel. If you'll recall recent history, Israel was making huge concessions and withdrawing until the kidnap of three of its soldiers. Perhaps you should be directing some of that spite at the terrorists who fucked up the peace process for everyone.

I think that soon, we (the US and Israel) will have to bypass the UN yet again and deal very harshly with Hezbollah's (and Al-qaida's) backers in Iran and Syria.

The current conflict in Israel is over the two Israel soldiers Hezbollah has. That's the official line from Israel. I recall that it was Iran's prime minister who was of the opinion that Israel doesn't have a right to exist. In the sense that the people have a right to exist, but the entity as a country doesn't, he's right. That's basically what you're going to get from any arab though. So it's not really a basis for starting a war. Otherwise Israel would have used it.



First off, the Hezbollah militia are no more terrorists than the Israeli army. You'll recall too, that the CIA has participated in assassinations and kidnappings. Are you trying to hold everyone else up to a higher standard than the USA or something?

Also you don't even seem to understand that they were asking for thousands of prisoners for the two Israeli soldiers. No negotiations were done as to the number they were asking for. If they were just out to GET Israel, they would have immediately killed the soldiers and left them out somewhere to be found. Do you still think it's absolutely A-OK to kill thousands of civilians over two soldiers they didn't even try to get back? I mean, really, let me know if you think that's okay.

What about the Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hezbollah? What about the dead Israeli's who fell victim to the rocket attacks?

Lebanon isn't the only country suffering casualties. Civilians are being murdered in Israel as well.

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, at least 525 people have been wounded in the Israeli bombardment, the vast majority of them civilians.
On the Israeli side, a total of 24 people have been killed or are presumed dead.

Pretty much everyone in Israeli serves a minimum 2 year stint in their armed forces. That leaves people under age who could most easily be considered civilians.

The issue here is that Israel is a military nation and does not have a notion of civilians. Any Israeli is already a trained solider, thus for them, civilians deaths on the other side doesnt matter and death of soliders on their own side feel more like civilian deaths.

When a small nation next door became a democracy, Isreal just couldn't let that happen. Fueled by a policy of nationalism and racsim, they have become the same monster that tried to destroy them in Germany. Isreal now is a fascist nation that cares nothing about anyone else outside it's borders. Every arab and nation around them is a lower form of human being than them, with no rights.
