I am a Christian

I found this today. I did not write it but I think it explains alot to those who feel all Christians are trying to be "holier than tho"

Wish I knew who the author was to give credit.




When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not shouting, "I've been saved!"
I'm whispering, "I get lost! That's why I chose this way"

When I say, "I am a Christian," I don't speak with human pride
I'm confessing that I stumble — needing God to be my guide

When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I'm weak and pray for strength to carry on

When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not bragging of success
I'm admitting that I've failed and cannot ever pay the debt

When I say, "I am a Christian," I don't think I know it all
I submit to my confusion asking humbly to be taught

When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are far too visible but God believes I'm worth it

When I say, "I am a Christian," I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartache which is why I seek His name

When I say, "I am a Christian," I do not wish to judge
I have no authority — I only know I'm loved

By definition, Christianity claims an absolute and definitive knowledge of truth, and a special relationship with an anthropomorphic creator of all things. In this, and in other ways, Christians are loosely monolithic - although the lack of familiarity most Christians have with other Christian flavors - Eastern Orthodoxy, Coptic Christianity, Mormonism, to name a few - is astounding.

Absolute knowledge, special relationships, monolithicism, and self-certain uniqueness are all ingredients of an attitude that is off-putting to those who do not share beliefs.

I understand the idea you're trying to express. But I'm saying that with these basic characteristics, humility is a concept that Christianity will always be challenged on.

To be fair, the same is true of the two other major religions that share the Christian heritage - the Jewish faith, and Islam.

Ulrika: I remember when I first read your forum posts more than 2 years ago. Yes, you poked fun at people, but you weren't vicious and demeaning about it.

I'm not saying this to mean. I have the utmost respect for you, but something's changed lately.

Now, every time someone mentions the word "God", you go out of your way to be a bitch to them. I find myself wondering what happened to you to make you so bitter. Is this a new thing, or have you simply been bottling it up for years, only to let it out recently?

Keep in mind that I'm throttling at 110 % because the forums are shutting down. However, I think your feelings are valid and in the future I'll try and tone it down a bit. I walk a fine line and sometimes I do cross it.
