People called me a conspiracy theorist when I pointed out that terror alerts seemed to coincide with low poll ratings for Bush
People called me a conspiracy theorist when I pointed out that Bush was trying to get control of all three branches of government
People called me a conspiracy theorist when I pointed out that the line between "suspected terrorist" and "dissident" was going to blur and disappear.
People called me a conspiracy theorist when I pointed out that there was such a group as the "neocons"

I've long found the term "conspiracy theorist" to be obnoxious -- an invented term that has no real basis in reality. In truth, conspiracy is as old as history; the only "theory" involved is this new, silly theory that holds that conspiracies don't happen, and it persists relentlessly despite having been disproven repeatedly. As far as I'm concerned, people who cry "conspiracy theorist" at the drop of a hat are every bit as deluded, in their own way, as the likes of David Icke is in an entirely different way.
Anyway, I know how you feel, Kendra. I usually avoid serious discussions with people about politics or current events because (a) they're probably just going to label me a "conspiracy theorist" or dismiss the problem I'm discussing (this is especially true with Peak Oil -- the typical response is, "I'm sure they'll think of something," and then it's immediately obvious the person's brain has shut down and isn't going to take in any more information), and (b) even if they do stop to listen, there's way too much background information they need to absorb before they're really going to even understand what I'm talking about. All I can do is recommend reading. _____________________

"The US governemnt was behind the 9/11 attacks and intended to use them to consolidate power" "Osama Bin Laden is dead, but the US government is covering it up in order to keep the war on terror going" etc. _____________________

Yes, those things are extreme conspiracy theories, but many of the things that Kendra mentioned were considered conspiracy theories before they were realized as truths.

And The Fundamentalist, Dictator George the Second, Dick "Gun happy" Chaney and the NeoCons all scream Conspiracy Theorist. And they scream very loud too. |

I wouldnt bank on it Kenda, the way it is these days bush could actually admit to it and it still get away with it.. plus most folks would end up just saying "well it had to be done" besides asbestos removal from buildings that size would probably cost as much as it did to build them in the first place  _____________________
