not a thread about the guy with the signs. Where is the 'I could care less' option? P.S. "You know who" is still playing SL! ![]() _____________________

I'd like to start with impeachment, then move to ... let's say, "correction."
Then I'd like to get serious about getting the real shits in power. But that's just pure, wishful fantasy. ![]() _____________________

We generally wrap in "Not American" with anything related to "get that fucker out of office" so we'll count you as an "IMPEACH IMPEACH" on the didn't vote for him side.

Hmm... interresting poll results... If hardly anyone voted for him, how *did* ge get into the White House?

It's not really news that the election was rigged, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Or any other election, for that matter. In the words of Joseph Stalin, "He who casts the vote controls nothing. He who counts the vote controls everything." Understand and accept (to an extent) that the presidential appointee is not yours to choose. It makes life a lot easier. _____________________

or that the people I know that voted for him don't make or reply to stupid internet polls like this Of course, polls mean nothing when the base is biased. Run a poll on the war or whatever political issue you want. Ask 20 liberals, and guess what the results are going to be? The vast majority of conservatives in this country are rarely heard because they are out working, building businesses, building families and making this country work. They aren't sitting in the basement complaining about it, they're doing something about it. They don't have time to sit around and complain. |

Hmm... interresting poll results... If hardly anyone voted for him, how *did* ge get into the White House? Well, lets keep in mind the fact that the SL Forum (or any such forum) is just that...an internet forum. It isn't the whole picture of people in the real world. Heck it isn't even the whole picture of the people in SL. MOST of the people I've met "on the streets" or known over the years in SL don't even visit the forums, much less post in them. It is only a self-selecting sampling of people. Go to a different forum, get a whole different set of views on all sorts of things. For example, this forum that Cindy Claveau pointed out to us in this June post. Bottom line, if you just remeber that there is a much larger and even more diverse world outside of the Forums, it will make your visits here all the more pleasant. ![]() |

Wow. I know he's much reviled but I didn't expect such a lopsided poll. I suppose it's time for Bush apologists to start discussions about the relevancy of polls. Oh. Already started, I see.

Already started, I see. ![]() Polls are fine. All polls are relevant, and all polls have context. THIS poll is perfectly relevant for what it is...a sampling of the opinion those people who are 1) subscribers to SL AND 2) know about and read the Forums AND 3) choose to vote in these polls AND 4) a good mix of alts added in for effect. Not something to run an RL political campaign by, but its at least as reliable as a High School popularity contest or Sr. Class election. So cheer up, at least you have that to give you hope. ![]() |

Hmm... interresting poll results... If hardly anyone voted for him, how *did* ge get into the White House? Less than 50% of the US voted for him. He won due to the way the electoral college works. http://www.howstuffworks.com/electoral-college.htm "After the 2000 U.S. presidential election, just about everybody in the United States was talking about the Electoral College. In the end, of course, Gore won the popular vote (more Americans voted for him), but Bush actually won the presidency, because he was awarded the majority of the votes in the Electoral College." |

In the end, of course, Gore won the popular vote (more Americans voted for him), but Bush actually won the presidency, because he was awarded the majority of the votes in the Electoral College." Well the original thread was on current popular opinion on SL, but if you want to go into the "How he got elected" bit while your information is true, if you want to put it all in perspective that's only part of the story. So bear with me a minute just so we have all the numbers because they tend to be forgotten over time (and because I am incurable info / stats junkie)... In the 2000 election there were 104,338,854 votes for Bush/Gore/Nader. In the 2004 election there were 115,809,878 votes for Bush/Gore/Nader. That is an increase in voter participation by 11,471,024 voters. That represents a 10.994% increase in voter participation over all. Comparison by candidate breakdown: Bush in 2000 got 50,456,002 votes. In 2004 he got 59,459,765. That is an increase of 9,003,763 more votes over his 2000 results. This represents a 17.8448% increase in voters for Bush compared to 2000 Gore in 2000 got 50,999,897 votes. In 2004 Kerry got 55,949,407 votes. That is an increase of 4,949,510 votes over what the Democrats got in 2000. This represents a 9.7049% increase in voters for the Democratic candidate compared to 2000. Nader in 2000 got 400,706 votes. In 2004 Nader got 2,882,955 votes. That is a decrease of 2,482,249 votes from his 2000 results. This represents a 86.101% decrease in voters for Nader candidate compared to 2000. So the # of voters for the Democratics candidate grew by 9.7%, which is less than the 10.9% amount of increase overall of voters participating this year by 1.2%. Compared to Bush's #s which grew by 17.8% which is 6.9% over the percentage of increase overall in participating voters. And obviously Nader did VERY badly by comparision to the year before. Now you can always take a selective look at numbers, and that's what most people promoting a given viewpoint do. For example you can truthfully say that more people voted against Bush in 2004 than voted for him in 2000. However the other side can also say truthfully: More people voted against Kerry that any Presidential Candidate in history (though Mondale is a close second). More people voted against Kerry than Gore in 2000. More people voted for Bush than against him in 2000. More people voted for Bush than voted for Clinton (both terms) or Reagan. In terms of percentages, Bush was elected by a greater percentage of the popular vote in 2004 than Clinton (both terms). 2004 Bush 51.34% Kerry 48.31% Nader 0.35% 2000 Bush 48.36% Gore 48.88% Nader 2.76% 1996 Clinton 50.06% Dole 41.40% Perot 8.54% 1992 Clinton 43.28% Bush 37.69% Perot 19.03% 1988 Bush 53.90% Dukakis 46.10% 1984 Reagan 59.17% Mondale 40.83% 1980 Reagan 50.99% Carter 42.37% Anderson 6.64% Links to source data available upon request. Because I'm putting this in from a previous analysis in hardcopy I don't have the URLs at hand at 4am but can oblige the morbidly curious. ![]() |

Wow, now I feel like a dummy... this obviously proves that the poll in the "Latest Poll says 86% of people feel Bush must be Impeached" thread was an accurate one! (Actually, even this obviously biased poll doesn't come close to that skewed result.)
... What it does show, is that SL's population is anti-Bush...... which everyone has pretty much known since beta. _____________________
