Take a close look. She didn't say she was upset at the current administration, or this law or that law-she clearly expressed a desire to not be an American. Moreover she has repeated her dissatisfaction at being American in one form or another all over these forums. I'm merely pointing out that there is a remedy to be had.

But I suppose it's easier to write someone off as simple minded than risk engaging in rational debate.

...friendly like that...

It isn't that simple. Where would I work? Can I speak the local language wherever I'm going? Since the largest problems (the reach of multinationals being just one) reach across borders, where will I run? The best I could do would be to move somewhere that's somewhat better prepared for energy shortages (perhaps the Netherlands?), but again, can I speak the language? How will I be able to afford this, given I basically just make enough to get by?

But while I would move out had I the means to arrange it (I even researched the possibility at one point), there's nowhere on this planet I could go to completely escape the largest problems I see. America by far is responsible for the largest percentage of the world's emissions ... by far (and especially the U.S. military), but where could I go to escape the consequences of that? Just for one example.

Indeed, there are only 3 prime options for the American expatriot.

Canada, Britain, and Australia.

Australia has this irritating habit of throwing their political refugee immigrants into prison.

Canada has tightened their immigration laws in the past decade or so, making it harder for anyone who is less than middle-to-upper-middle-class to immigrate. THanks to our economy, our lower-middle class is now HUGE.

Britain just can't fit everyone.

So where is it you want us to go?

Seems like it'd fit the people complaining in this forum all the time...

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

Trying to settle a discussion. I have a friend here who is curious as to wether or not SL is mostly a liberal or Conservative community.

What do you guys think? Just for curiosity's sake.

Crow

I find that wherever there is a large community of creative thinkers and artistic people, it tends to lean quite a bit to the left.

As someone pointed out, the UK. Canada, and Australia readily come to mind as alternatives. And it doesn't matter where you go as you would still be able to escape the stigma you associate with being an American citizen. No matter where you were at least you could comfortably blame America without having to be an American.

And if you move to a socialist welfare state, hell, you wouldn't have to work. Moreover, you'll find a lot of the people in Europe speak English well enough for you to get by until total immersion sets in and you pick up the local language.

Besides, anywhere has to be better than living in this "Nazi-like" country, right? And again, isn't the point that you wouldn't have the "unfortuate" circumstance of being an American any longer?

Oh, and China is by far the world's worst polluter.
"China: Air pollution

China's breakneck economic growth and soaring energy demand has caused it to suffer from some major pollution problems.

At the moment about two-thirds of the country's power comes from coal and coal products - the cheapest and dirtiest forms of energy.

According to the World Bank, air pollution costs the Chinese economy $25bn a year in health expenditure and lost labour productivity - largely because of the use of coal.

This exacts a very real human toll - official figures say 400,000 Chinese citizens die a year from diseases related to air pollution, and, according to the World Bank, 16 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in China. "

Did I mention it was exempt from that BS Kyoto treaty? And now it's pollution is reaching the US.
