system specs (or make and model#) please

sounds like you have some junked up video drivers, should be an easy fix once we know which ones to get (unless of course your video card is not supported)

What operating system do you have? Windows XP, Vista, mac, Linux?
Do you know what kind of graphics card you have and do you have the most up to date drivers for it?

Sorry, your computer cannot run this product because your system did not meet the Minimum Requirements. If you want to learn how you can fix that problem, please review the details section below. In some cases it may be a free download and you could be good to go.

If windows (Most likely if you don't know)
Find the 'My Computer' icon on you desktop or in your start menu. Right click it and select 'properties'. Says the OS near the top. And you're probably not sing linux, you'd know.

ok

goto your start menu, choose run type in dxdiag and hit enter

it will open a new window, at the bottom of that you should see a button saying "save information" (or something simmilar i dont have windows atm)

save it as a file on your desktop

then close the dxdiag window

open the file you just saved

copy and paste the sections "System Information" and "Display Devices" here, so we know what kind of hardware you have and we can go from there

That’s enough.
My suggestion is if you want to run SL you would first need to get another graphics card. You are running 64 meg and you would at least in my opinion need 128 meg of ram on the card. Something like a 7000 series nvidia can be bought for around $50-$75.
You also have just 512 meg of memory (RAM). When I first started that’s all I had but play was very jerky and not a pleasant experience. 1gig of ram is recommended.
I think the source of the error in your op though is the video.

Try this….go to this site
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
select Option 2
that will install the most up to date drivers. Then try SL again.
Good luck :)

ok understand a couple of things

your only reporting 448 mb of ram (512 is installed - 64 used for the video card) this is under the system requirements

2 geforce 4mx (shudder) this was a weak card to begin with, and im not even shure nvidia supports it anymore, + instead of having its own ram (since its intergrated with the mainbaord) its not helping anything

this doesnt mean running SL is out of the question, its just going to be difficult, and if it does manage to run it will be quite bad ... if this is something you end up being interested in i strongly suggest at least upgrading your ram and video card asap

but lets try to get you in world first

here is the link to the newest drivers for your video card (from the year 2006), download and install them... it should ask you to reboot, do that and then try SL again and let us know what happens

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.html (same thing as the other person posted, just a direct link to what you need instead of letting their web script figure it out )

i assume your waiting a while before giving up

cause on my machine, which is very similar to yours, but with better video and 2x as much ram i get nothing but a black screen for nearly 45 seconds, the whole thing takes maybe a min and a half to fully load (altho i usually bang the enter key to login before then)

yours with under the required amount of ram useable, and a video card almost 1/5th as powerful might take a while

SL is a monster program

Ouch! That hurts just to look at.
Second Life requires a 3D capable video graphic card. Your GeForce MX is really just for 2D office applications and Web surfing.
In my opinion, your current hardware just can’t run Second Life.
Sorry.
