What is the viewer for?

Haven't seen past the log in screen for months.
I actually found a viewer a while ago. I've had it for a month. So far I have seen no differences between SLs viewer and the one I have. I'm spending $70 a year on a nice picture and a randon square that says 'log in'. I saw on TV all these animated people running around. How exactly do you get one of those?

So far:
- Un-installed Firewall + SL = No change
- New viewer + SL = no change
- Witchcraft + SL = no change

I am posting on a forum. I can play WoW. I can watch YouTube. I can see every single website I go onto. The connection is reasonably fast. According to SL this means there is 'something wrong' with my internet connection.

I don't know but...is it a good time to have the SL servers looked at?

There might be some info in BimboZombie's previous posts that would be good to review before tackling this question. Here's some links:

You might consider changing internet service providers, replacing the modem, router, cables, etc., and getting a new computer.

You might consider the Amazon Mechanical Turk or other crowdsourcing sites; perhaps you can hire someone to participate in SL for you.

I have two accounts. I think I know how to create one.
And I think the viewer is called 'greenlife'. Not much different from the SL viewer. I'm still paying $70 a year for a pretty picture and a log in button.

Before you go any further, please provide ALL the following information:

Computer make and model.
Operating system version and release.
A list of personal security software you have installed.
type of internet connection.
Make and model of router.
Whether you have any firewall options enabled in the router.

I have Vista on a laptop. SL fine on this.
At one place I have a reasonably high speed broadband wireless. SL worked fine.
At my other residence I have a broadband that is wired. SL worked fine.
I haven't changed my firewall in relation to SL at all. In fact I've never changed it. SL worked fine.
Then all of a sudden SL fails.
Then one day it works perfectly fine with everything I have.
Then once again it fails and has been ever since.
I get as far as the log in screen before I get a message that there is 'something wrong' with my internet connection (I use two) or the SL server.

Then today when I attempted to log in:
I can magically log in after my mother recently replaced our 7 year old computer and our cheap rip off router with new ones. This might have something to do with it but only a little.
