I haven't seen it in months. I haven't even been past the log in screen. On both accounts. All I get is the same bawwbaww message about how I 'don't have an internet connection' and should try again in a few 'minutes'. Last time i checked a minute was about 60 seconds, not a whole month. It could be a problem with the servers. If it is, SL needs new severs if they are down for months.
SL was fine for quite a while, them suddenly and without changing anything at all in my computer I couln't get passed the log in screen. I checked my firewall and virus protection only to find it had been magically uninstalled without my permission. I have a LAN connection here. I have another place of residence that has a Dial-Up labeled as an 'OMGZ TEH FASTEST BROADBAND EVAR' connection. Of course I don't bother with Second Life there. You don't have to be psycic to know the outcome of attempting SL with such an attrocious connection. Trust me I've already tried. Fail. After weeks of dicking around and my mother actually hacking into my e-mail account (which apparently can magically re-install my firewall into my computer) I still have no firewall whatsoever. I return to where I am now. My firewall magically appears on my computer. Not only that, but I can actually go BEYOND the log-in screen of SL. In fact I can go everywhere. I return to my rip-off dial-up. SL is still fine somehow. I nearly called my local pastor just to make sure there wasn't any demonic magic anywhere near my computer. I go back to my apartment with LAN. Suddenly I can't log in at all.
This was ALL on the EXACT SAME computer, with the EXACT SAME firewall. I've re-installed secondlife. No change. I've turned off all internet protection leaving my computer compleatly and utterly defenceless. No change. I have restarted my computer three times. No change.
It doesn't look like a problem with my computer. Whether or not I log in to SL is completly and utterly random.
Are you sure SL doesn't need new servers? Can there really be a problem with a computer that I haven't even touched the settings of? Ever? And one last question: Can anyone suggest a good paranormal investigator?

If you firewall is going crazy it's more likelyu someone else has hacked your computer or it has a Trojan or Virus or something, not likely to be SL's fault. Not sure why SL would stuff the firewall of only a few users of the hundred thousand or so using it for the last month you haven't been able to get on, tried a different account or viewer yet. And as an adult you really should have a word to your parents about hacking into your computer, and as a Generation Y, you should be smart enough not to let some 50yo hack your home computer so easily.

I have two accounts. Its exactly the same on both. And veiwer? I've asked for that many times but everyone acted as if I asked what a toe was. I only let my mother hack into my email because apparently that would make my firewall magically install into my computer. My firewall was fail so it had to be compleatly re-installed. I do everything on my computer myself exept for the firewall. So mother dicked around with it for weeks. I sat down in front of it. I clicked one button. All of a sudden I have a firewall. OMG!!! THAT WAS SOOOOOO HAAAAAAARRRRRRDDD!!!

Last year, I got stuck inworld and I had a similar error message (sorry, I can't remember the exact message because it's been so long). I had to contact Live Chat to fix the problem. I haven't had problems logging in since.

The Viewer is also known as the Client, it is the program at your end you use to view the content of the SL Servers which contain the world & everyones money & stuff. SL has opensourced their Client software, so any programmer can view all the code and modify it to write their own custom version, with extra features or less features or just changing features. They are still limited by the fact they can't make anything happen that the SL server doesn't allow like messing with other people stuff etc.
As for an alternative viewer that is a pretty common subject in the forums here some searching should find links easily, Cool & Meerkat Viewers have been around for a while with regular updates, Emerald viewer is new and seems to be popular, I don't mind Snowglobe myself.
But in the end if your Operating System of your computer is obviously screwed to some degree LL can't take the blame for you not being able to get online. Perhaps it time to backup your important stuff and reformat your fhard drive and reinstall. You'd be supprised how much better many computers run afterwards, it cleans out a lot of crap running in the background you may have installed and forgotten about or don't need as well as any nasty stuff. Also a 3 monthly defrag doesn't hurt either.

Sounds too random to be and OS problem.

From: BimboZombie Morpork Would an operating system be fine with SL, then fail, then randomly fine again for no reason, then back to fail again? Sounds too random to be and OS problem. It certainly could. If something is wrong with your OS, then ANYTHING could seem to (mis)behave randomly. It sounds like at the very least, your firewall is misbehaving. If your firewall and antivirus were either uninstalled or disabled without your knowledge, that would strongly suggest you were hacked. More than likely you downloaded a Trojan that quietly went to work turning off various security functions. If that's the case, your computer is may well now be part of a botnet, sending spam and whatnot all over the Internet. I'm not convinced that that's what's going on, though. A couple things don't seem to make sense yet in your story. For example, I don't understand what you mean by your mother "hacked" your E-mail account. What exactly did she do? I also don't see how simply messing with your E-mail could all of a sudden cause you to have firewall software installed where none was present before. Are you sure you just didn't simply enable Windows Firewall without realizing it? If I had to guess, based on the limited information available so far, I'd wager you've got two firewalls interfering with each other, Windows Firewall, and whatever other third party one you've got. One of them is misconfigured, and whenever that one is active, SL can't connect. But as I said, that's just a guess. It's hard to piece together what's really going on without more complete details. As for SL's servers, even if they were completely trashed (which they're not), there wouldn't be any way they could make your client software tell you you don't have an Internet connection. Whatever's going on, the problem is on your end, not server side. By the way, just so you know, the reason the SL client software is called a "viewer" is simply because "browser" was already taken. A browser displays stuff from the Web, and a viewer displays stuff from virtual worlds. They're basically the same thing, just purposed for different environments.

Even after my mother hacked into my email account still no firewall at all. It wasn't until I touched my computer *cough* the first time ever in the year I've owned it *cough* did the firewall suddenly appear into my computer because I found the 'install' button and a Broadband connection that was a Broadband connection. Today I have shut down all parts of Windows and the Trend Micro firewalls. SL is a log in screen.
