Okay I went ahead and deleted temp and cache files, and uninstalled and reinstalled stuff, and it WORKED for me. I was on for a few hours.

However...

After having to relogin for the umpteenth time when trying to teleport from place to place. Even FLYING directly from one place to another caused so much LAG, and problems, the login problem came BACK!

It seems just moving into the next SIM hoses everything up. So, I give up now. I'll wait for the next update tomorrow.

I also ran disk cleanup, and a registry cleaner to clean up after I uninstalled second life client. This helped me.

Most everyone in this thread seems to be experiencing what I've encountered and reported. Logging in to a sim that is (assumed to be) broken as outlined in /111/9c/21551/1.html . Reinstalling and deleting cached things won't fix anything if you're trying to login at a sim that's nothing but water. It's the server's fault.

Still can't connect

Same problem here, with the hang and quit on "Preparing Inventory" bit.

I'm on a Mac, and I've found my cahce files, but not the temp files...

So, I deleted what was in my Library folder, downloaded the software again, installed... and it tries to "Fetch" my inventory, then crashes out and gives me the same error message as before.

Help?

Mine gets hung at the "Verifying Protocol Version" and flips to the connection failure message.

Zarah..go into Preferences in the login screen and set your Login to "Home" instead of Last Known Location. It worked for me.

Stuck at Inventory screens
09-02-2004 09:44
Just an update, tried SL on a computer that never had SL before, still can't connect. It hangs on the Inventory screen then quits out with the same message about contacting support, which I did.

definitely a problem on SL servers. I am on a Mac and on login the viewer keeps hanging on "contacting region".

Anybody know if it's possible to login not to your last known place but to a different one? Cuz lately the sim i live in (Dusun) has crashed a couple of times. :(

Unfortunately, the only way you can alter it is to go into Preferences and change the login location from Last Known Location to My Home. This is how i was able to get back online after getting hung up at "Connecting to Region" repeatedly. But if your home is in Dusun, for now you are well and truly screwed. Sorry.

Ian fixed my account!

Apparently, the hanging at "Inventory" and quitting was a bug having to do with the new "notify" feature of events.

Ian fixed my account, and I can log in now, but I'm scared to use the notify feature again! ;)
