Sims turning into nothing but water

I first saw this at Jessie today. The entire sim has no content. Nothing but water with flat land underneath. Entering the sim causes you to automatically ghost. I then went to Immaculate and noticed that the same had happened to that sim as well. This is especially troublesome as my home location is set to land within Immaculate. If you're ghosted by entering a sim, you need to logout and reconnect. However if you're set to reconnect in a sim that is behaving in this manner, you won't be able to reconnect. You'll be returned to the login screen after a few moments of the program hanging. Is this what it means to have a sim "crashed?" And if so, what has happened to the contents? Will my items be returned to my land when the sim is repaired?
