I can't log on either. But I get some weird error about my computer's clock not being set correctly. I could log onto 1.5 earlier today.

I can't get in either.
First I was fine...then I froze. So, I logged out. Logged back in to get the 'unable to connect this may be due to time and date not set correctly' error. But, I am certain my time and date is correct. So I made a second attempt and that one errored as 'Due to our efforts unable to connect..blah blah blah'. *Sigh* Ohhh they joys of updates! |

Ahhh, bugs bugs and MORE bugs...

Yes, it does happen to hang a bit on me at "Preparing Inventory." Before, "Preparing Inventory" was remarkably quick. I suspect the inventory system changes - IE, the duplicate purging - is what's slowing down the inventory system. Object rezzing is also much slower here.
And the real kicker? Scripts absolutely refusing to save changes. I get the suspicious 1.5 was rushed. |

I called and they don't have a clue man.

I called and they acted like they weren't aware of this bug that is preventing us from logging in. I to am in the same boat as the rest of you. If it is not stalling and crashing at the inventory part its crashing at the "connection to region." I've been trying to connect for about two hours and I'm kinda sick of it.

Yep I get the exact same problem. "Preparing inventory..." makes the client show "not responding" at the top. My cursor turns into an hourglass and I can't even click "quit" at the bottom right. I can click the big red X at the top right to quit, but then windows comes up saying it's not responding and the option to "quit now". After restarting SL, it realizes it didn't exit properly and asks to send in a bug report. bla bla bla.
Seems like everyone on this thread is having the same problem, and have tried different things (reinstalling, rebooting, etc..) to fix the problem to no result. Looks like 1.5.1 will be out soon then! ![]() Wonder if MAC users are having this problem? |

If you're having issues (particularly if you were in 1.5 earlier today), you might try this. It worked for some of our residents (and me as well):
1) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and delete the contents of your Temp folder. 2) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life and delete the contents of the Cache folder. 3) Uninstall Second Life using the Add/Remove Programs tool in your Windows Control Panel. Uninstall any 1.5 Preview as well. 4) Visit http://secondlife.com/download and download and install the latest release. Hope this helps! Lee Linden (EDIT: If you cannot see the files or folders, go to the Tools menu, choose Options, go to the View tab, and select "Show Hidden Files and Folders".) |

Why doesn't the uninstaller delete these TEMP and cache files to begin with?
That would have save us a lot of headaches if uninstallers really DID uninstall related files we don't need, even if the files weren't created from the original install. Also, the "Local Settings" is a hidden system folder that shouldn't be messed with, unless you can identify the apporate files to delete. The contents of that folder contains ALL SORTS of info for other applications. However I do see some SL looking files with the SL hand-logo associated with them.. I'll zap those and see how it goes. I sure wish window apps didn't scatter files all over my harddrive like this. |

This sounds weird, but I don't have a folder called application data within my username folder.

I edited the above to add:
If you cannot see the files or folders, go to the Tools menu, choose Options, go to the View tab, and select "Show Hidden Files and Folders". |

After having some issues logging in today, it seems it all has been corrected (did not do anything in particular).
All I did was try to log in several times. After it finally let me in for the first time, I had no problems getting back in. Everything seems faster and clearer than under 1.4! tito _____________________

A SysAdmin's 2 L$ input on the problems
08-31-2004 16:42
Hi all,
I'm stuck in part of the same boat, here's my work so far around it (I'm in SysAdmin mode here, bear with me): - The 'Preparing inventory' is apparently going through the avie's inv and syncing between the personal and library invs (see release notes for details). This took a bit for my char, even though I've not picked up much per se. I suspect it may take longer for those with more extensive personal libraries. I'd say if it took more than 10 minutes (without network activity) is when you can start filing official reports with the Lindens. - Teleport: Just not there for me, I'm better off flying (so I'll need to go buy another AnGrav, mine was acting funny some time ago). Unfortunately that also means the islands are temporarily off limits. It appears that the avatar teleporting can sometimes be seen by others already there, and may be able to interact, but cannot move or see/do anything else. The simulator cluster is not able to resolve the avatar properly to his/her client. In my case, relog to that destination fails; I have to login and res at designated home point in my land (in Boardman if that makes any difference) to even get in. - Scripting: There's several reports around (in particular from GOM login) that the external/web interface /w 1.5 has stopped working or not communicating correctly with the outside. OK, off with my Admin hat now. I have to be at work soon anyway. Have fun all... --TSK (RL - UNIX Admin 9 yrs) aka Alan Kiesler (SL - UruFugee) |

The "application data" is a HIDDEN system folder. So you won't see it unless you make windows explorer show hidden folders and files.
