Look, let's go to the event tab in SecondLife for a sec, shall we?

Let's see, Today alone there is:

The Rock N Roll Jeans and T contents
Best in Thug Wear
PrimWorx Contest
Bling Contest

So you're saying, every day, these contests are allowed to post winners in the general forums?

Admittedly, they're not very original, but HELL, a flying vehicle contest? How original is that?

Blaze,

You have started threads before that did not belong in General. Many people have, myself included. Sometimes you do want something to be broadly visible. Ultimately it is for the moderator to decide what belongs where, not you. When you come into a thread like this and just bitch for bitching's sake, it reflects poorly on you and just makes you look mean spirited, spiteful and petty. If you want to moderate the forum, then apply for the job with Linden Lab. All you had to do was report the post if you felt it was in the wrong place - but noooo, that's not good enough for you.

I think it's great to see some events that are all about people showing off their creativity. We need more of this kind of stuff! Looks like it was a great contest and the winners look very cool. Good stuff!

Blaze, put a sock in it. Maybe if you ever did something worthwhile instead of just trolling the forums people wouldn't mind you doing something similar. I guess we'll never know.

I have a game show at the Shelter 3x a week called "Payment Podium". The top prize is L$2500, and its very, very rare when someone gets there (The top-end trivia questions are monumentally hard). Since January, we've had 9 winners of the top prize.

Because its such a big deal when someone wins the $2500, I take a snapshot of the winner with a congratulation message, and post it to the forums.

I've always posted this to the classifieds, because well - I thought I'd be flamed all to hell if I posted it to General. The Notices & Well wishes forum didn't exist when I started the show.

After about winner 5 or 6, I stopped posting - primarily because there didn't seem to be a whole lot of responses or interest in the winner. I think part of that was because I was posting to the classifieds.

In fairness, while I still think Payment Podium is a unique game show that you can only find at the Shelter, there are trivia events going on daily in Second Life. Its much less often there's a build contest, especially one put on by Cubey: the defacto Airplane Guru of SL.

Its all a huge judgement call. Am I going to start posting my Payment Podium Grand-Prize winners to the General forum? Probably not.

Is Cubey getting a little bit of a pass because of his fame quotient, and because this is the kind of event the active forum community wants to see more of? Well, of course. But I think that's ok.

I think he's also getting a pass because this event is a very kewl idea and it's precisely the kind of thing we need more of in SL.

And I agree with Cristiano:

That is the appropriate action to take.

Cool idea?

This idea has been done a thousand times. There is nothing cool or original about it.

That's the difference. I put people in my ignore list because they participate in fallacies and ad hominems, not because they disagree with me. In fact, I agree with a lot of the people on my ignore lists but they attack people and not ideas, so I don't really care what they say.

You put people on your ignore list because people disagree with you.

But let me say it this way, so it's perfectly clear: Cubey is a wonderful guy. Really, I love him to pieces. He's a fellow vancouverite so that make him all the more wonderful.

But, I'm sorry, this event has very little redeeming qualities. And this thread is an abuse of the shout channel that is the general forums.

this is the exact reason you'vre earned a place on my very short ignore list

How precisely does that make sense? Or did you just neglect to read what I wrote?

Perhaps because you are the king of fallacies?

I never attack people.

I love everyone here. You're all wonderful people with many redeeming qualities.

Except maybe the ones that crash the grid and steal intellectual property. But, given time, I'm sure I could learn to love them too.

As for my fallacies, ok, well those are a tad debateable. Perhaps I should say I just put people on my ignore list because they attack people.

The is something you often leave out - which is that in addition to people and ideas, there are also actions, which are often what people are responding to and attacking. You are a nice guy, and I often like your posts where you present an IDEA. There was no idea presented here. It was your action of interjecting yourself into a thread for no purpose other than to criticize and try to be a moderator. You have been rightfully attacked for doing so - it just smacks of sour grapes and being rude, which many of your posts do.

Actually, I don't have anyone on my ignore list.

Nice disclaimer. What you left out is he also has the class not to come into one of your misplaced threads, of which there have been many, and not only cricitize the placement of the thread, but attack the event as well.

From: someone

Cubey is an incredibly creative, talented and well known designer of airplanes. To many who build them, he is also someone they look up to. To be part of a contest where their work is recognized by someone they respect and admire, and to get the attention that winning the contest brings to their design is a good thing. The only thing you are doing by stirring up drama about this is trying to take attention away from the winners of the contest, which is sad.

Many of the threads you create are also an abuse of general. You create them for no other reason that to push buttons and sit back and watch the drama. You have admitted so yourself. For you to criticize someone posting ONE thread praising the designs of other residents is really shallow and hypocritical.

Again, there is a difference between people, issues, and actions. You are a great example of it. You got flamed in your other thread not because of who you are. I have no problem with you as a person. It was about your actions, and it is about Blaze's actions here. I guess now we have 6 more months to look forward to of you interjecting the same comment into every thread.

I don't put anybody on ignore. But then, I'm a fast reader and scanner, and can easily get past anything that is too tedious.

Travis, I would continue posting those! But I think the right place would be events forum, as the outcome of an event. I don't read that as much as I should (rarely, in fact), so I'm not sure, but it seems people would be more likely to see it there.

Yes, because you are playing the role of professional victim, so anything said against you is a personal attack. No one can criticize anything you are doing, apparently.

The results of the 2005 Aircraft Design Contest are in!

Thanks again to everyone who participated. It was great fun, and one of Abbotts Aerodrome's biggest events. I hope to see your designs again in the 2006 competition!

Congrats to the winners. These are some fantastic planes. I'll be sure to head down to the Aerodome to check them out later today.

No, my point is you are attacking me, not the issue. If you want to discuss the IRC issue then discuss it in the IRC thread. If you just want to attack me personally, don't! Geeze.

What was a personal attack, Hank? I was comparing why both you and Blaze have gotten the reactions you have, since you claim it is about attacking people not ideas.

Well, let's rewind back to the message made about Blaze that I replied to...
From: Chip Midnight
Perhaps because you are the king of fallacies?

That was a comment to attack Blaze's position by calling him names. He was attacked personally, not commenting on why his position was wrong.

If people want to attack my positions, go for it! But I don't appreciate, nor do other people, nor do the Lindens, people attacking others personally.

Great maker.

I don't think I've ever regretted a post more than the one I made inviting people to come see the builds.

For the record: All I wanted was for the folks who put all that time and effort into thier creations to get the positive attention they deserve.

But the trolls hold sway here. If this thread is really in the wrong forum, a quick note to Jeska - via the li'l red triangle - will get it moved. But we know that's not what a certain someone wanted. They wanted to keep the usual bickering, petty flapdoodle going where everyone worries about unfair priveleges and scrutinizes motives knowing in thier heart of hearts that no one could possibly by doing something for any other reason than to further thier own ends, and damn everyone else.

And of course - so many eager to keep that going. It's not trolling when everyone wants it, is it?

Meh. Riteous indignation may be fun, but I know it is going to change exactly two things in these forums:
  1. Zilch and
  2. Zippo
