I like alot of people would like to know the answer to some questions

The real one being when will we actually leave beta.

No other game out there may be able to match the freedom of SL but at the same level, no other game out there would ever go public release with so many problems.

You changed the tos to better defend your inability to take action and fix problems so the onus is all on us.

1)I paid for an island 14 months ago I was basically lead to believe I was paying for the hardware and setup (rental comes later) later we find out we share a server with another person, wow these servers better be some really good hardware because I myself have built server units in my job.

2)You keep making changes to scripting language, code and design which destroys and made alot of items not work, oh yes its not your fault you don't haveto take responsibility ? Do any of us buy a piece of business software then 3 months into comercial release they change the code so radicly our software we wrote on it doesn't work and they say "its your own problem"

3)You make a big hoo haaa about it being our world but you make sweeping changes for our "benefit"

4)You remove the forums our only pretty much uncensored place to tell you our REAL feelings

5)You create a teen grid but you remove age/payment verification so if a child wanders into our sim an adult place and her parent sees our adult images is it also OUR fault because you can't be bothered ?


6)THe lag only gets worse, the texture problems get worse, the bugs increase.

7)and to add insult to injury after nearly each patch people find they need to upgrade there pc to play your game.

Traffic system totally broken and actually encourage camping chairs etc

Alot of the old players, the good people have left, replaced by thieves and con artists only interested in sl because its a rl money making thing. these people are not comunity.

I stay for 2 reasons, my friends and loves, if there was anywhere out there anything near to this bug ridden fest i'd stop paying my $200 per month and say goodbye to my investment of time and effort in SL

Please note I don't play this game for a profit, every person with a vendor or shop on my land is free and I charge no rent I came to SL for community, for fun.. but Now I spend my time on other games where my P3.4 2gbddr2 memory and ATI pciexpress 800 256mb are able to mean i can play and enjoy without crashes or lag. I come back on to be with my loves and to speak to friends.

I got on the internet ten years ago with a 33600 baud modem which cost me a small fortune, and now people made these newfangled DSL modems which made the internet faster for everyone so all of a sudden the web wasn't just a bunch of grey pages with times new roman fonts, it had actual images, videos, flash animations, crazy shit!
Change is bad! We all hate change. Please don't change anything ever again, so me and my laggard friends can live in a bubble for the rest of our lives.

I don't mind change aslong as those causing the change have intelligence.

I run my own game its now in its 5th revision(9 years), I code in c++, java and now i'm working with mysql dbases, I also have run a website and archive for 10 years.

I've been involved in most games testing from M59 through UO, EQ, AO, and am a published works coder.

And no one I know has ever seen the debacle SL is becoming.

35 years old with a Bsc in computer science.

Currently developing a MMORPG

I've patched my own games many times, reworked recoded and redone my website, moved from html to php AND i've always made sure I didn't break anyone stuff (customers matter to me)

And I've never seen cowboy patches and changes from anyone except sony.

When I joined sl it had issues but wow I could fly a plane over a sim line without having to "test my luck"

I could have a gun fight with a couple of friends without atleast of of them crashing and sometimes a sim going down (not talking heavy lag weapons or maxi rez scripts)

These forums are NOT uncensored. In fact, if there's any good argument for closing these forums and force people to talk on 3rd party sites, it's the LL censorship

I can see the OP's point - if Microsoft changed Word and forced a release on you, only to then tell you that all of your old documents could no longer be used ( and no we are not releasing a conversion program ) it would make CNN's top story.

But I did and always do put my customers first, in fact when we moved from revision 1 to 2 in 98 before I realised about conversion modules, I physicaly stayed up for 48 hours rewriting and copying all the revision 1 players pfiles to revision 1.2 so they would work

At that stage we were pretty small only 1400 character pfiles

This remark sums the game up in a nut shell! WELL WELL SAID! These days LLAbs is telling people to "BUY" island to make their lives easier......But the facts are as you stated and i am not going to repect it are just madding. Along with the soup opera helpers within the llabs ranks is causing even a father sinking feeling for many. FOr many the thoughts about the time range on how long SL will make it drops by the day..

I am not an expert in SL bugs and exploits, thats your job, but I do remember why you were banned, you seemed to paint all D/s and Fetish clothe stores with the Gorean flag, you came in insulted my wife(real life wife) and basically acted like a lemon (not a nice refreshing lemon, or a kinky lemon fiction).

Good. What a nice summary. But this is just an analysis of our current state and not any news. I wonder what the OP wants to do or to have Lindens do. Lindens don't dare to intend to make a mess of our (second) life. Don't do anything if you can't make it? Then it will loop back to my fav Eggy's comment. "Change is bad! We all hate change."

Regardless of how much LL has cocked up, it's never their intention to do so. Nor do they actually want it to happen.

It probably boils down to their lack of resources and haphazard organizational structure. Very likely, theres too much leniency. If it were a bit more draconian, their efforts might yield more benefits.

We can complain all we want. But this is an experiment which we willingly participate and fund for.

I would say stop adding new items, no more new aditions to SL, do a complete 6 month tear down of the current code, rebuild, document, fix, stabalise, then test against current , as in don't keep doing these half assed patches, AND before each patch do atleast a month of butterfly effect testing, just like the theory that states a butterfly flapping a wing in china can cause a storm in france, adding one line of code to one part can bug out and break something else.

I beleive people would be willing to wait, just have reboots of servers weekly to refresh and stabalise memory leaks and really put some effort into the recoding of the system, not just plaster fixes and first aid but redesign and recode.

And most importantly build in more modular outlets and code points, so new additions, new funky abilities can be slotted in without cramping something else.

I know the above isn't easy but SL is dying, it will probably survive as a quicky mart or 24/7 mall for fashion etc in virtuality but the community the people who you want here, its dying

I learnt the hard way, early on I added evolution code for dragons, that gave you bonus depending on age, battles fort, state of your body lots of variables, but we started having seemingly random crashes, seems one part of the evolution code didn't mesh with an insignificant addition to a personal diary setup.
