From: Kendra Bancroft pandatsrong: A signed paper, and edict from the authorities and we must all leave our home. Kendra: Well, it isn't like the LL Forums have been exactly a garden of eden ya know. Sally: True Ulrika: So what do we leave? Phedre: A little bit of this, a little bit of that. A pot, a pan, a broom, a hat. Lucifer: Someone should have set a match to this place years ago. Billybob A bench, a tree. So, what's a stove? Or a house? Taco: People who pass through LL Forums don't even know they've been here. Finning: A stick of wood. A piece of cloth. Chorus: What do we leave? Nothing much. Only LL Forums LL Forums, LL Forums. Underfed, overworked LL Forums. Where else could Wednesday be so sweet? LL Forums, LL Forums. Intimate, obstinate LL Forums, Where I know everyone I meet. Soon I'll be a stranger in a strange new place, Searching for an old familiar face From LL Forums. I belong in LL Forums, Tumble-down, work-a-day LL Forums. Dear little village, little town of mine. Oh goodness. That is too perfect. coco

From: Io Zeno You can't reproduce the SL forums, really. Why? Because no matter how well done and well run, they willl only be known to those who... know of them. The thing about an "official forum" is that aside from the oldbies and regulars, you will always have new people coming in and adding to the mix. That is difficult to reproduce with a third party site, it usually becomes a closed group of regulars with a very small influx of new people. And getting a new forum going , not technically, but keep up participation, is really, really difficult (I have learned). Especially because there will not be just one and people generally don't post on a dozen forums on the same subject.
The SL forums are a reflection of... SL at any given moment. It is a way for residents of all stripes to communicate with each other and LL. I'm speaking of all the forums now, because LL isn't just closing General and Sandbox, and each forum has it's own regulars and it's own little vibe while still allowing anyone to move between them. When you remove it from LL itself, and start splitting up into all sorts of different forums and blogs, it becomes something else. Yep. The SL forums are the streets; the rest are all private clubs. I've as much a right to speak my mind on the streets as anyone else. There are regulars, some I'd cross the street to avoid , but anyone may happen along at any given time. Even if you're gone awhile, the streets are still familiar when you get back.

I think everyone should start their own blog and we will create a huge web of interlinking and trackbacks... Because it's your own blog you can say whatever the fuck you want and nobody will close your favorite drama hole! ;0

I've never seen an official company forum that was half as good as a forum run by interested fans. I've never seen an official company forum that had half the sense of community, either. If these fora are the best you have for online community, you're missing out terribly...
Indeed, we all are. I do miss the sense of community I had in the last game I devoted a lot of time to, whose developer was wise enough to never run an official forum to begin with, but was always way more responsive to player feedback on the fansite fora than any company I've ever seen responding to input on their own fora.
I can't help but see this as a step in the right direction. The question is, where are the good fansite fora for this game? Because of the official forum, I haven't bothered to look. I've only now realized how much I've been missing out, sloshing through these poorly maintained fora when I could have been looking for a decent forum...
So, the question again is, where is the action? Where do we go?

Where will we go? We'll go to dozens of other forums! Finally, a way for Forum admins to get free advertisment!
Bob: Did you read SuezanneC Baskerville's post about forums? Joe: No, I read "A brand" forums Bob: oh, well, it was on "T brand" Forums Joe: I should read "T brand" Forums more often!

Like me, The forums fill in the gaps when somebody else wants the SecondLife computer xD Which is where the details in the announcement about the forums closure comes into the play. The stuff that is ment to fill in the gap the forums leaves and such. In fact, the changes and/or effects of the forums closing will be more benifitial to someone in your situtaion.

From: ZsuZsanna Raven Plus the fact that everything is here in one area, we shouldn't have to go to 87 different websites/blogs to find out what the hell is going on in SL. I am also going to miss the classifieds as I don't go to SL Boutique/Exchange or anywhere else to see what is new. I'm not one to wander around SL aimlessly looking for new items. If I see something I like in the classifieds, I go and buy it. My sentiments exactly....I rarely post in the forums, but read them religiously...nasty or not, it IS a sense of community in a rapidly growing world. *sighs* I know we have seen many changes to our SL over the years, and raised holy hell about them, but I think this might just take the cake.

Probably the best thing we can do right now with the time left, is to come to a consensus on exactly which replacement-forum we should all use when this one is gone.
It doesn't have to be a permanent forum. If it turns out that it doesn't fit the needs of the community, we can just use it as a stepping-stone to something better, and taking our time about it. The imortant thing is that the forum community remain together after the shutdown.

Alternatively, it is the perfect opportunity to finally get shot of a number of annoying fucktards. I'm waiting to see where certain people go then I'll go somewhere else Or I might just follow Willow, wherever she goes.

Im gonna miss these forums.
Ive not been as active in them recently as I was, but it certainly was good to have a central place to come to to check out gossip, scripting tips, new stuff and more.
I could maybe even accept LL cutting down the number of forums - there is a case to be made that groups and sandbox topics dont need LL support - but to get rid of the lot?
Sad. Very sad.

But what will we now do when SL is having one of its weekly (or more) updates/everything except the acutal bug fixes? This is not a good thing. The Forums are a real community. I feel like a big part of the SL experience is being taken away. It is just one thing after another lately. Soon there will be nothing left worth paying for.

Hell just today Robin of all peeps closed a thread. When is the last time you saw the VP of SL moderate the forum? I'll tell ya when it was way back in 04, I remember it quite well as I got my ass spanked.

I'll just wander aimlessly about. Lurk everywhere, be a ghost all over again. I do miss what the forums was for me. But I will not miss what the forums have become. I feel this way about SL as a whole. I'm tired.
