From: Sally Rosebud GD it you caught me, I'm a RL woman playing a SL woman, playing a female toaster on the forums. I hope you're happy now. Well I'm not happy. I'm a RL woman playing an SL woman who likes to wear an oven from time to time. Where will I ever meet other kitchen appliances enthusiasts? The open plains of SL are just crying out for a roving gang of us, romping away, trading bakeware and cake recipes. (where's my medication ... where did I put it ... I clearly need it!!!!!)

From: Ananda Sandgrain There are no females on teh intarweb!!! I'm sure someone in another thread has probably posted this, but I am reminded of one of my favorite internet parodies: Welcome to the Internet! Where the men are men, and the women are men, and the children are FBI agents. Fin.

From: Damien Usitnov I think it matters if you are using a female avatar and are really a male in real life, unless you have real gender problems in RL It is pretty deceiving to everyone you encounter in game especially in mature settings... thats just my thought. Well, these surveys tend to show that every 4th-5th female avatar encountered is actually a guy. The ratio might vary from one location to another. Since you mention mature settings, the real question you ask might not get answered until someone makes a poll about how many strippers/escorts are female in real life.

From: Susie Boffin Actually I am still confused by the intent of this thread. If the OP can't tell the difference between males and females in SL I suggest he look up some skirts and maybe invest in eyeglasses.
Beyond that if he is interested in first life I suggest he go there and see what he can see. The intent of this thread was clear, and has nothing to do with RL so your comment was completely out of line.

I haven't read through all of this thread since I wasn't real interested in the topic, but on second thought I considered offering my own experience. Some years ago, I was a sysop on a Compuserve forum dedicated to discussions of human sexuality. The forum owner and his wife were published psychiatrists and the general approach of the place was very dignified and adult while still having fun. One of the jobs of sysops was to police the "no gender bender" rules, and so we developed our own radar to detect what we called "GBs". My detector keyed on: Cutesie names ("Bambi" and "Bunny" might really be girls, but more likely not). No idea what size clothes they wear, much less that women's pantihose sizes in the US aren't numbered. And in one case, a male IM'd me wondering aloud whether his cyber partner was a female because she didn't know what a speculum was. In SL, the only things that raise my suspicion are overly large boobies (to the point of becoming blocky - a decent rack in itself isn't something women necessarily oppose), displaying male aggression, scratching of testicles and belching Ok I'm only half serious. Most of the time it doesn't bother me in the least what gender the avie is vs. the person's real gender. Unless a relationship is going to go RL, it just doesn't matter. And my SL is never going to bleed into my RL, so the point is moot.

Amusing thread. Toaster OVENS are the hawtest btw!! Now for the serious part. Why is it any more deceptive to play a different gender than to play a different race, class, species, age, build, etc? One of the wonderful things about virtual reality is it let's us think about how we relate to people. Do we focus on their personalities, or on the wrapper. If you are not sexually interested in another person, does their gender, age, etc. matter? Personally, I love situations that make me think and question my assumptions, and SL provides many. I think you get a truer sense of who people are in SL because you're not distracted by a biologically imposed wrapper. People's outsides are much more likely to match their insides here. Which scares me sometimes considering some of the things I've seen here. Surreal is 6'2" in her fishnet feet. Probably around 130 lbs and a C cup. Visually around 20 years old. With dark purple hair and full body tats. Although I'm female, not another single part of the above description fits. Is Surreal deceptive? I don't think so. She's just a pixelated wrapper for the creamy filling. The filling doesn't change. One of my other favorite avatars is a tiny robot with a bad-ass attitude. Same me inside. I can understand that you'd be concerned if you were looking for an intimate relationship to include real life. Definately get pics and a credit report in that case. Otherwise, just enjoy people for what they are and don't stress about the small stuff.

The awful truth
07-28-2006 06:44
You don't know half of it. In truth, SL sub-contracted the mob to provide sexual entertainment in world. Given mob-related women are better employed in Vegas, they turned to the well known trucker syndicate who in turn turned to its retirement homes.
So, in reality, the 50.000 horny lesbians you see in SL were just created by 200 retired truckers working from sweat houses in Denver and Oklahoma City.
Sorry to blow the whistle on you guys, but the public should know.

After eight pages I doubt I have anything to add that hasn't already been said. But I feel like boosting my post count by one anyway.

From: Damien Usitnov Do you guys think I'm retarded? I know that a fictional being couldnt exist in RL you all know that I mean human females in my original question, but this thread has gone to hell so just forget it. I was under the impression that the SL community was more mature than this... I guess I was wrong. The current mentality on this forum is that it is cool and evidence of a high IQ (see another thread on IQ) to derail any topic that is a common one. Apparently, everybody, including Newbies, are supposed to be happy just reading through old posts and not talk. Their heros are the ones that are able to provide the least amount of information using the most words.

I recall the original T-Shirt as:
Welcome to IRC Where boys are men and the women too.
I always loved how that syntax was a brain twister.

Or just because you have never seen it means that it does not exist? You are getting these responses because 1) This thread happens about once a month, and 2) Why does it matter?
