Red Ban Lines around some Burning LIfe builds?

I was there about an hour ago to see what it was all about. The ban lines were up. and he's said the ban lines are part of his installation.

Might all be a moot point. I heard in the preview the under wear can not be removed. I am beginning to wonder if they are setting up SL to become Disney Second Life.

I understand the nature of the protest but think it is aimed at the wrong audience. This need to be directed at the Lindens. Perhaps a better demonstration would be for everyone not to buy content for a day and demonstrate at Governors Lindens House. We can dance around and "burn" our undergarments!

PERHAPS they merely enabled the teen grid defaults for the preview grid, because there is no seperate "teen preview grid."

What are the Teen defaults? How is it different from the main grid?

I think the Teen Grid defaults to baked on undies. Don't want the kiddies stripping all the way down, don't ya' know.

I imagine Newfie did consider what he was doing when he set that option based on his comment in this thread. And what we are arguing here, really, is whether this is good or not. Why do you think not being able to walk though Newfie's plot ruined your enjoyment of other peoples art? Would it have changed your expectations and view of Newfie's display if you were forewarned of not being able to travel on his plot? Why?

Well, we need to come up with a protest for this. Perhaps those that are protesting the closing of the forums can think of something. We have a common intrest after all When they close the forums we will no longer be able to post our protests and concerns.

I always wondered at people who Join a social environment Then they can Isolate themselves from everyone.

Why not save the Money and simply Not Log into SL, there are lots of 3D building programs where they can construct all they want and no one will ever see it or Visit it?

Same effect at a Much Lower Price.

I love flying head first into ban lines and the Lindens have made it impossible to avoid the things now. Running into them really pisses me off and he can not argue that this plot of land was paid for by him. In effect we all paid for it!
His "art" is about what I would expect from an "elite" content provider.

At least in Newfie's case the ban lines are deliberate and clearly part of th e art, exhibit and message. The analogy being that closing the forums is also annoying, inconvenient, requires that we detour to other forums and such. Rather a clever non-verbal commentary/protest actually.

As for the other parcels that have ban lines around them for no obvious or helpful reason, (I can only assume the parcel owner puts them up as a "I'm not done yet/Go-way until my parcel is ready!". I would think that watching exhibits evolve to be part of the fun of exploring Burning Life. Perhaps they were griefed by someone?


(I suppose Newfie *could* fake the ban lines by creating big phantom cubes mapped with the 'ban' texture ... but that'd be compromising his protest exhibit. )

I do not appreciate his ideal of art. It is as rude as it is thoughtless. His art is like the emperors new clothes. There is no work and both of them are naked.

Wow - have never been considered an 'elite' anything before, I dont know if I should be honored or offended!




Anyone that's dealt with me - either here or in the forums - have known that I'm not the type to mince words, or worry too much about if those same words will cause offense. In addition, the BL plot for me is solely an expression of my own thoughts an opinions on the matter. Could say it wasn't made for anyone else's enjoyment but my own.

And just to clarify, those aren't 'ban lines' - they're 'no entry' lines. If you look closer, you'll notice that they're not intended to keep the public out, meant only to allow chosen individuals in. The side effect of keeping the public out, well....if it makes you offended/appalled/shocked, then that fits all the better into the theme.

Nothing personal, mind you...it's just that your thoughts dont matter when it comes to Teh ForUmms.

Ranma, you clearly have a bug up your nose about Newfie's Burning Life build, but I would very much like for you to take a deep breath and really really try for a moment to see this from the opposite point of view to your own so far in this thread.


Precisely his build is probably the last and best way to be noticed by a few Lindens as they buzz through Burning Life next weekend, and to have a statement against the closure of the forums be heard by them. They clearly don't spend much time in here or show any apparent response to what we say in the forums. Protests elsewhere in-world? Please, like they're going to notice that.


How can you say this and not acknowledge that Newfie's sole and single statement is a clean, simple protest against the closure of the very forums you are using to complain about his work?



On the contrary, the best art in the world for changing the way people think is shocking, disturbing, disruptive. This build is, in my opinion, 100% in the spirit of Burning Life.
I would hardly consider this display to be an example of "griefing", a word we bandy about all too easily these days, as there's a clearly explained purpose, easily perceived on-site, for having ban lines around his build.
Protests, by their very nature, inconvenience and irritate some people - that's how they achieve change. Marches snarl up traffic, strikes interrupt production, demonstrations embarrass politicians and business leaders, and riots disrupt whole neighborhoods and cities. But that doesn't mean their cause is unworthy of being heard.





Speaking as a corner neighbor of Newfie's build, I'd like to say I have not the slightest problem accepting that I sometimes bump up against his ban lines on my way to and fro, and am in full support of his message. I'd like to thank him for using his land for the benefit of the entire body of SL residents, past, present and future, who would benefit from keeping the forums open.


Well, there's really just no pleasing all the people all the time. Sorry you wound up getting your knickers all in a bunch over his use of ban lines in his artwork. Luckily the best artists in the world know how to discern between useful criticism and unjustified name-calling.

More honored than the other, I have seen a lot of your products and they are excellent. Looking at your profile again will say the elite is for the quality of your work and not the other.

Actually your supporters are more vocal than you are about this. Hmmm protest against the closing of the forums. I still do not see it from the build but have never claimed to be very bright.

Perhaps but I do not have to like them. I dislike to the extreme bouncing off of "no entry" lines. It is the reason I do not go to the mainland very often and it was worse in Burning Life since never expected them there. Thus the shock was double of normal. I plan to avoid the Burning Life for the duration and thus not be offended. Because in the end what I think about the forums does not make a difference. Oh you have been gentlemen in your responses, I bow to you respectfully.

If I offended you I do apologize to you but as you say it is nothing personal. I just have strong feelings and they come through a bit strongly at times. Have fun with your theme!
