This is the worst I've ever seen it. I move something and literally a minute later it snaps back into a spot near where it originally was. Rotations, forget it.

It's always like that when I try it.
Mostly because I can't build, though. ![]() |

I gave up on an av that required precision, my business partner was bitching about prims in a club he was building.

I had a prim that would always snap to 269.96 degrees on the z-axis. It kept snapping to that when in the range of approx 269.92 and 270.05 ( I don't remember the exact values). After a bit of messing, I eventually gave up and rotated it to 90 degrees and rotated the necessary textures too. Regardless, it still pales into comparison to the other bug I ran into.. With edit linked parts checked, and stretch both sides unchecked, the prim, when resizing, would spaz out and toggle between stretch both sides and.. not.. very rapidly. It was a pain in the ass, and required unlinking to work correctly..
Thankfully I don't build much very often.. I was ready to beat the shit out of misbehaving prims. ![]() |

Even though it's absolutely 100% true. I was uploading some files last night and, of course, SL stuck them in the default inventory folder. I opened 2 windows to easily move them where I wanted (I keep all files dealing with a project in discrete files), and every time I moved a file I had to wait 15 seconds for the inventory window to reset, otherwise I was dropping sound files in my hair folder or textures into my animations folder. I was literally yelling at the monitor -- and at that point decided I needed to just quit and do something else. Building used to be fun. Now it's a pain in the ass. _____________________

I'm having this problem too. Yesterday I was playing around with prim clothing, and had to keep redoing things. Deselecting right after editing the prim seems to "lock" it in place, so everytime I changed a prim, I clicked on my avatar. It worked alright, but I'd prefer to not have this issue.

It's because of all the unverified accounts, they're ruining SL!!!

Interesting thing last night. I clicked on a 4-prim window, dragged a copy off, then attempted to rotate that window 90 degrees.
It would rotate, all right, but it lost the square prim surrounding the window glass each time. Just - poof. Finally I dragged the window farther away - outside of the house - and managed to rotate it without losing the prim. In addition, the thing where one of the textures on a single prim (I haven't even linked prims yet, for the most part) goes wonky on one side when you change a different side is still going on, and randomly. Makes me think I ought to drag a copy of each prim off before I work on its texture, so a wonky thing won't make me have to start over on that prim each time. coco _____________________

Use CTRL to spin a prim to roughly the angle you want it, then manually type in the exact angle if needed but even that will not always work.

Pity. I'll be back in fairly soon, but it seems these problems might stall any further work on my builds for now. Everything I do requires exacting precision. I do not "fudge" very much at all.

Use CTRL to spin a prim to roughly the angle you want it, then manually type in the exact angle if needed but even that will not always work. That works roughly 50% of the time.. the rest is spent staring in wonder when it decides of it's own accord to just go back to the old position or of on some angle totally unrelated to even the previous one! And the 50% of the time that it does work.. I spend staring in amazement that it actually worked! I am ready to commit prim murder and I'm tired of having to learn new curse words just so I can build. _____________________

Any maps and objects i did in Q2, I did offline, made, then uploaded to a server.
I like this SIM cause you can make stuff in-game, but on the other hand for lots of building...I suggest: Maybe we should be able to port our stuff into SL? (Meaning, get a copy of your plot then build "user side", without causing undo lag on the servers for other peeps) while you build. As far as small stuff it's great to do in game. ![]() _____________________

As a builder who has had items actually detonate from spinning, I must agree. I'm DYING here.

Building is no longer a usable part of the game it's as simple as that.

Building is no longer a usable part of the game it's as simple as that. I don't think it's been usable for about 5 months now, which is why I surprise myself when I am actually able to build a prim skirt. I'm not sure I want to try for anything more complex. _____________________

It's a matter of who's patient enough, in large part.

Well today for the first time i decided to do something. i almost messed up the entire build but i managed to help build a roman tempe entrance in the side of a mountain in Serenity Woods. it came out ok but my god it was a pain... I swear it seems like someone else is editing the prims at the same time and moving it to tease me... _____________________

Ever have..
09-06-2006 07:38
.. a prim lined up exactly right on a translation, then release the mouse buttion AND HAVE THE PRIM SLIDE RIGHT BACK TO WHERE IT WAS BY ITSELF? That's one of my favorite prim tricks. It's like it's on an elastic band.
Building is possible, though - I've seen people do it. Check out a privately run sandbox called "Sex" and look at the sculptures there. You'll be as dumbfounded as I was, I'm certain of it. Particularly beautiful is the statue of Samson, pulling down the temple of the Philistines, on an island outcropping in one corner. You have to go way out into the sea at the corner of the sim to find it, but it's an amazing piece of work, and worth the trip to go see. There is also the "Fallen Angel" sculpture, near the center of the sim on a green hillside, and a giant robot you can fly up into that looks like a dead ringer for Gigantor, and an amazing working clock with turning gears, and much more. If you want proof that the tools do work, or want inspiration for your own work, go there. It's an uplifting experience. |
