I was once returned to Miss Malaprop's inventory, quite arbitrarily. It's rather dark in there, and there was a faint, musty odor which I could never clearly identify, nor verify the source of.

I wandered around for several weeks, rather disoriented. Survived on buttered scones, which seem to lie all about the place, each flaky pile isolated in its' own shimmering, golden beam of light, filled with tiny, dancing motes.

I eventually found my way out. Somewhat exasperating, really. I would imagine the chalk marks I left to mark my progress through those stygian vaults are still visible, though the humidity which constantly condensed on the dank, brick walls may have lavaged them away by now.

I left my journal behind, in the hope it might provide some comfort to the next poor soul arbitrarily returned there. It has most likely not fared very well in all that damp, even considering that I wrapped it in my best waistcoat to protect it from the ravages of the environment.

I do miss my waistcoat.

I'm honestly quite surprised that you made it out in one piece from my inventory; there are a number of volatile items therein, many in a rather poor state of repair. I had not really given much thought to the issue of proper signage within my inventory but the idea of a poor, lost explorer clambering from folder to folder has touched me, and I shall henceforth place clear markings amongst the scones.

I did notice a faint rustling from time to time in June, but that might have been mice.

This story reminds me of two pizza restaurants in NY, the two are named Pizza Stromboli and they are next to each other and on each of it, it is written, 'this is the real Pizza Stromboli' ;)

Well I am Nick Rhodes from SL and originally i am Nicolas + i liked the last name Rhodes back then as there was few last name availlale (speaking of beta time). But I discover after that a musician of Duran Duran was name like me (or modestly the contrary ;). I knew Simon Le Bon and i was fairly fan of them back in the 80' but my name is not a tribute to them speaking of facts.

It is very amusing than among all the band that could have come to sl, Duran Duran is the one, speaking of coincidence, very relatively as i am concern...

So I am an homonym =) and I am not musician but I am a photographer as Jonquille nicely remember =)

Speaking of the SIM now... I am afraid to say that it was named as me but not as the DD Nick, Anshe counts among my friends. She nicely propose me to name a sim under my name, as she did for some of us old timers and contributors, like Obscuro Valkyrie (creator of Transylvania among other great things =).

Note that i dont own a piece of this land but the name =)

In conclusion, trully I dont know what will be the linden policy if Nick Rhodes want to perfom live under his name...

Interesting! I wonder if one could ever be accused of "name-squatting" within SL, even if, as is clearly the case with you, it is a pure coincidence?

Nick Rhodes' original name was actually Nicholas James Bates, on the other hand, so perhaps he could go by that.

Yes Ordinal, plus if Simon Le Bon wants his band name 2, as Le Bon is not among the last name proposal as we create a account, I guess Linden labs can create some special guests names or they can choose different identities as we all have...
but the fun to see 'name dropping' on the stage would not be here lol

Anyhow, this is not about names, this is about music so best wishes to the band ingame !

Meh.

On the one hand, I've never personally seen a reason not to treat people strictly on a case-by-case basis, and for that matter, I have an unverified alt myself (I wanted my own free account furry :D).

On the other hand, I don't tend to gush over celebrities. They're just people, no better or worse than any other people (actually, I think the wealth and fame tends to twist a large percentage of them, but that doesn't mean that being a celebrity automatically makes you a bad person). In fact, I have such a hard time seeing people as "better" because of some kind of artificial status that I had to be a little careful when I was in the military because honestly, I didn't feel like a general officer was necessarily any more special as a person than an airman basic. I just don't tend to get that sense of "awe" that a lot of other people seem to get.

I suppose if the Suzanne Vega felt the overwhelming urge to drop by and visit my little section of SL, I'd be like, "Hi." :p

The way I see it,

You pay for a place to live, the computer, the electric, the phone line and the internet connection. So you can't provide payment infomation? This means either you are a child using your parents internet connection or it is an alt used for griefing.
I dont want either on my land! About the other, I do not want a "stuck up" on my land as well!!!!

Celebrities do not strike me with awe and wonder, just because they are 'popular' in certain circles.

I've met stars of top-rated TV series in person at conventions, chatted amicably with them as I would with anyone else, and went on my way.

I've sat down to dinner and known there was a real life multi-millionare sitting just six feet from me, at the next table. I hardly glanced his way.

I find it amazing that any real 'celebrity' would fail to provide something as simple as their credit information for SL. If they are the type who expect someone in 'their entourage' to pick up the bill for all their expenses, that wins no support from me.

As for the one whose name you cite? If she walked up and said hi to me on the street, she'd be just another stranger. The name doesn't ring a bell. And even if she was a star I knew, my reaction would likely be no more then "Oh! Well, nice to meet you, Miss Vega. What can I do for you dear?"

Some of my friends had become celebrities over time. One of them was ecstatic when I called out to him by his real name intead of his stage name. He liked feeling like his normal self for a while. It's people like him that got me so used to seeing celebrities only for who they really are. When I'm with those friends the jokes and stories don't change. They aren't extra-special, they are as they always were, one of the gang.

Celebrity doesn't thrill me at all and I wouldn't give notice unless I regarded the person as special in some way. It's not just about who the marketing people say they are, but who they really are.

As for Suzanne Vega? I considered her pretty good before. After I heard the interview I like who she is even more now.
