From: Finning Widget Or just have 1024 square meters of land that they prefer to keep many - but not all - people out of. I don't want alts in my apartment. If you want to come into my apartment, I'd better know you /or/ you'd better have a reputation to put at stake - because if I show up to my apartment full of your fire, my land's prim usage totalled out - you're surely going to get AR'd, and you /will not be coming back/. I also do not wish to inconvenience or restrict anyone who has a reputation at stake. If someone wants to express their dissent with one of my public aims or statements in an artistic fashion, I welcome that. Assembling a running VW inside my apartment - funny and brilliant (OK, if it were /hard/ it would be.) But I'll not tolerate anonymous harassment /on my property/ for the sake of anonymous harassment. The people who know me well enough to critique me do it to my face, and not from behind an unverified account - and if I know someone with an unverified account well enough (they have established with me or with society a /reputation/) and they have a reason to be there, I'll add them. So....um....is this some sort of invitation? I'm free tomorrow morning around 11. How's your schedule look?

From: Wrom Morrison Please speak to Serra Anansi, she is in charge of Caldeon till Desmond returns. I'm aware of that. Speaking to her wouldn't help. I've already read what she said, anyway. I'm a Caledon resident, I know what I need to do already, I simply can't do it until I can get on the grid.

I'm a Caledon resident, I know what I need to do already, I simply can't do it until I can get on the grid. Hi Ms. Talmasca, I am sorry to hear that you don't think talking to me would be helpful. I understand that I am not the final word on anything here, and I will be talking to Mr. Shang when he gets back. But for today and for the next two weeks, I will be reading the set TOS for Caledon and interpreting it as best as I can.
Cut from the "Independent State of Caledon - Information Card" writen by Mr. Shang him self...
Don't block waterways or paths by setting up security of any kind. If you feel you MUST have security on, subdivide your plot to allow path or water right-of-way at the far edges, and only turn on security where you need it. Do not ban everyone from your land 24/7. This makes for an awful sim and generally marks you as a newbie. Because anyone using their camera control or sitting on a prim can cut right through it anyway.
Because of the way Mr. Shang has the property lines set up... the roads actaully run over some peoples property, banning a group of people would stop them from walking on the paths and or traveling on the waterways.
Not all unverified are griefers, we get many many unverified residents who simply come to visit, not cause problems. Caledon is based on community and welcoming all civil and friendly people to the land. So with that in mind, I am going to ask that wording of the "Information Card" be followed until Desmond gets back.
I hope anyone debating this issue can understand my position.
Serra.
*edit* In my last post I stated I didn't think there was any specific rule against ban lines, but now that I had a chance to check my note cards, there is a rule. I am sorry for my previous inaccuracy.

From: Kamilah Hauptmann Thought one: While I somewhat support the blanket ban for someone selling adult materials in order to establish an argument of making your best effort with the tools available to minimise a minor's exposure to said adult materials, no matter how flawed it may be, I have -yet- to see a porn shop in Caledon. You know..that's not a bad idea. If I had the land and money I might even open a victorian style bordello... Well as to regards to banlines, it would be nice to have a special security orb that you can manipulate the range that it only covers the house/building without affecting waterways or roads. I've heard of those that even give you enough time to leave the premises without it having to push you away. It gives just as much the same privacy as you could with the full banlines on and yet, be community friendly enough. I for one am looking for security doorways. Ones that would only allow the owner and friends in but warn and then gently push away the unwanted guests out.

From: Serra Anansi Hi Ms. Talmasca, I am sorry to hear that you don't think talking to me would be helpful. It would not have been helpful, not as a reflection on you at all, but rather because what you'd already posted was part of the apparently conflicting information, and more importantly, because I wanted the clarification from the horse's mouth, as it were (Desmond ... or more accurately his words, by way of the notecard) It wasn't that I doubted what you'd say or that you were put in charge, I just wanted to get it straight from the source, not secondhand. I knew where to get what I needed already, so there was nothing I really needed to talk to you about, that's all. The reasoning you present about the land layout, which I was already aware of and intended to mention by example while writing my previous post (before deciding to wait and see), is perfectly valid and logical. If my tone seemed to slight you, do forgive me. I was reacting the way I was for quite a different reason. It wasn't about you, and it wasn't really about banning at all, but rather about options. I prefer having as many as possible, regardless whether I intend to use them or even if they are practically useful, and I don't give them up lightly once I have them or believe I do. That's just the way my personality works. For me, it was not and is not an easy balance to strike, trading some of the autonomy of the mainland for the benefits of Caledon, even while greatly preferring the latter over the former. I like and trust Desmond as well as my fellow residents; nevertheless, it's very easy to jar that balance when things are presented the wrong way or catch me unawares, which has happened before in Caledon. As a general rule, I keep it to myself.

From: Dyne Talamasca If my tone seemed to slight you, do forgive me. Oh no, nothing to forgive. I was more concerned that I had not been able to present my point clearly, and came off as unapproachable on the subject.
Thank you for posting more of your reasoning, I really dislike misunderstandings and it seems to clear it up.
We both agree that Desmond needs to make a final decision.
I can’t really make a Caledonian do anything, but I am for the time being going to ask anyone that has any blanket bans on their land to remove them until Desmond comes back, using the note card written by him as my reasoning.

From: Ordinal Malaprop Since I scripted them I can fairly safely say "no" - the trams are non-physical anyway, and the balloons don't use push, they're vehicles. (In fact, no-push would stop people from pushing them around to make a nuisance of themselves.)
What interferes with the trams and balloons is actually if they pass over a parcel which doesn't have enough prims to support them - it used to be the case that there was a "grace period" which allowed a vehicle to go overhead, but now, there isn't. However, if anyone is sitting on them, they won't be affected by that, so nobody will get arbitrarily returned to my inventory. WAH! And I wanted to get returned to inventory! I haven't had that happen since the text based muck days!

From: Ordinal Malaprop To be fair we have had a fair number of incidents, but nothing compared to many popular places. I suspect our griefer-to-visitor ratio is relatively extremely good.
After all, griefing is so gauche. I have no doubt that we have had more than that, I just mentioned the 3 I have seen, a I spend most my time in/around my house and store...so I too think our griefer/visitor ratio is low. And yes it is gauche....After all, they don't even bother with proper clothing for the season and event!

From: Ilianexsi Sojourner Actually, it might be fascinating, in a bizarre sort of way, to see how Xcite! items would talk if they were written in the style of Victorian erotica...! Good point, Lucifer... I don't ban unverifieds because I don't like to judge people based on just that. I've met some very cool people by talking to brand new residents... like you, for example. I just ban people on a name-by-name basis, and that only when they do something annoying enough to be worthy of it. *shivers in fear* I curse the very term Xcite! and its creator every time I am subjected to talking genitalia. Its bad enough to fool around in most public places, but to also show illiteracy / inability to pose a complete sentence while doing so should be criminal!

Tess Wow, I have seen the same instructions on some cheap electronic things, right after "insert one piece of 9 volt battery."

Miss "My Farking Name IS Luka" Vega?

From: Lucifer Baphomet Inworld, do a search for Suzanne Vega...... Yup, if you've banned unverifieds, you've banned the Suzanne Vega. Betcha don't feel so clever and smug now.... Wow. I had no idea. Now I'm going to ban her specifically. That song makes me want to punch my sometimes boyfriend right in the groin, since it was on the radio the first time we...er...expressed our passion physically, that being the style at the time. Now he sometimes hums it during foreplay. Boy is he in for a surprise the next time... "my name is luk*WHAMMO*AUUUUUGGGGHHHEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Of course, he'll be pretty much useless to me in bed for a couple days, but if it breaks him of that little quirk, it'll be worth the extra few bucks in size-C batteries... I might even make him watch, just to torture him a bit more. /me can be an evil bitch when she wants to be.

From: Ordinal Malaprop so nobody will get arbitrarily returned to my inventory. I was once returned to Miss Malaprop's inventory, quite arbitrarily. It's rather dark in there, and there was a faint, musty odor which I could never clearly identify, nor verify the source of. I wandered around for several weeks, rather disoriented. Survived on buttered scones, which seem to lie all about the place, each flaky pile isolated in its' own shimmering, golden beam of light, filled with tiny, dancing motes. I eventually found my way out. Somewhat exasperating, really. I would imagine the chalk marks I left to mark my progress through those stygian vaults are still visible, though the humidity which constantly condensed on the dank, brick walls may have lavaged them away by now. I left my journal behind, in the hope it might provide some comfort to the next poor soul arbitrarily returned there. It has most likely not fared very well in all that damp, even considering that I wrapped it in my best waistcoat to protect it from the ravages of the environment. I do miss my waistcoat.

who's who...
08-09-2006 11:56
From: Ordinal Malaprop There's a resident as well as a sim? Does Nick Rhodes have property in Nick Rhodes? This story reminds me of two pizza restaurants in NY, the two are named Pizza Stromboli and they are next to each other and on each of it, it is written, 'this is the real Pizza Stromboli' Well I am Nick Rhodes from SL and originally i am Nicolas + i liked the last name Rhodes back then as there was few last name availlale (speaking of beta time). But I discover after that a musician of Duran Duran was name like me (or modestly the contrary . I knew Simon Le Bon and i was fairly fan of them back in the 80' but my name is not a tribute to them speaking of facts. It is very amusing than among all the band that could have come to sl, Duran Duran is the one, speaking of coincidence, very relatively as i am concern... So I am an homonym =) and I am not musician but I am a photographer as Jonquille nicely remember =) Speaking of the SIM now... I am afraid to say that it was named as me but not as the DD Nick, Anshe counts among my friends. She nicely propose me to name a sim under my name, as she did for some of us old timers and contributors, like Obscuro Valkyrie (creator of Transylvania among other great things =). Note that i dont own a piece of this land but the name =) In conclusion, trully I dont know what will be the linden policy if Nick Rhodes want to perfom live under his name...
