Sometimes I go shopping and I see a new name, and I think to myself (or call Asri on the phone) saying... WHERE THE HELL HAVE THEY BEEN HIDING? THIS IS THE NEW HOTNESS! I do this all the time. The best stuff is unknown, of course. The usual suspects aren't even close to the cutting edge. _____________________

GDI don't make me get the mallet!! Here's a chance to seriously get some new names in the mix. I'm saying this with <3.... you goofs derail this, I'm going to be pissed.
My nominations: Travis Lambert/The Shelter -- an example of community-service that serves both business and charitable functions in the world. While perhaps not 'successful' in the way some are, the ability of virtual charity to make a difference for new players is an interesting and amazing thing. There are not many games 'out there' where philanthropy and charity are supported. Janie Marlowe/Mischief Designs -- a relatively quiet success, Janie combines slick graphic skills with sensible fashion and has become a staple of the industry. Low key insofar as visibility goes, one gets the sense from a look at the sim she's in that there's more going on than meets the eye. The Metaverse Messenger -- One of the first 'real' newspapers to show up in Second Life. How well does journalism work in a virtual world? Can it become a viable business in its own right, or is it doomed to be a competition of free papers vying for advertising to stay afloat? Juro Kothari -- Architecture and home design, how well does the business of environments and residence translate to the digital domain? Jon Marlin/Marlin Engineering -- CAD designer and engineering afficienado building a business in fast vehicles for air, land, and sea. _____________________

I vote for:
Barnesworth Anubis for cool, Scandinavian-style furniture. elka Lehane for wild cutting edge stuff For social entrepreneurs I'd say fantasydancer Olsen and the XXX/dark secrets/sex club group. For people who would lose their raison d'etre - Prokovy Neva and the SL Herald Crew. _____________________

I so totally agree with many of the names listed in this thread (Travis, Malachi, Jeffrey, Torley, Elex, Siggy, Psyra, Barnesworth, Christano, Nolan)! What amazing choices!
I would like to add some names, as well. I am totally violating the "six months rule" because, frankly, some of these folks are truly interesting. Armath Severine (though I am sure that he would not talk to the press): He has made his way in SL on his own terms. He is a DJ for RadioRadio; he writes a killer blog; his photography is on display; he is an all-around cutie (who can be quite sassy on occasion) Eboni Kahn Proprietoress of Gold Coast and all-around gadfly, Eboni is both successful and honest. Astrin Few, Frogg Marlowe, Wayfinder Wishbringer, Synger Tyne, (all of the SL live musicians): What's not to love about the metaverse's burgeoning live-music scene? _____________________

Well, as you can see, we have quite a few people we feel could add to any media coverage of SL.
Unfortunately, a Linden responded in another thread today that none of these suggestions in this thread will be noted, as they would prefer not to recommend anyone to reporters who hasn't already agreed to be interviewed. In that thread (the WWD - or Women's Wear Daily - thread), the Linden has included a list of what to include should you want to send her details about yourself for future inclusion in articles. I would ask a question, and then make one suggestion: 1. Question: How did they get their list of people to recommend to reporters in the first place, and when did they develop this list? I asked in the Linden meeting if they indeed did recommend people, and they did not say they didn't, so I guess they do have such a list, and they do consult it for recommendations. I imagine the list is quite short. 2. My suggestion: If they can't get into the world enough themselves to develop a more inclusive list - or would, for good reason, be wary of being accused of favoritism for doing so - I would strongly suggest to the PR department (whoever that is) that they require writers and reporters to do their own research. The writer/reporter would then be free to peruse the website (which unfortunately only contains the same names, and is never changed), or go in the game (always a good idea for a good reporter), or read other articles (a lazy approach, but will cull them the very same names they always get from the Lindens and/or the website anyway), or any combination of the above. Just end this business of the Lindens recommending certain residents to reporters for publicity. coco _____________________

Prokofy Neva (#1) Jauani Wu (#2) Others of import: Jarod Godel Merwan Marker Ulrika Zugzwang Anshe Chung Malachi Petunia (for his recent work) Lordfly Digeridoo Others, honorable mention: Cocoanut Koala (too nice) Hiro Pendragon (mostly perfect but still a bit too involved with the group think) Christiano Midnight (same as hiro, but different style) Pendari Lorentz (needs a bit more volume though) Probably missing a bunch of others. Given that you seemingly had no idea that this was the case, I question the validity of your other assumptions and nominations. ![]() A couple of the others have never contributed anything that I know of either, but that's my point. We dont really know each other that well, and asking for citizen nominations of "good people" is likely to result in a lot of wacky choices overall. One person's "cool techie friend" is another persons, "asshole that greifed me in the sandbox." ![]() _____________________

The link is here: /120/4c/60837/1.html#post636239 She didn't say she wouldn't note it, in fact, she specifically says that they need more information than what is in threads like this, and prefer to have suggestions emailed to them and work with folks who are interested in being interviewed. Note -- 'prefer' is not the same as 'will only'. Reading comprehension is fundamental. There IS a difference between reading and reading into.... how many times do we need to cover this? Simply put -- if you're interested in being interviewed, you need to hit the above link, read what they want from you, and then -- send it. _____________________

Care to explain? I was at work when I sent it though so I may have spelled some of the names wrong however or perhaps included names that are not actually SL avatars. I was sort of free thinking or free associating at the time perhaps. I included Garoad at first because she reminded me of Kiamat, but I dont think they are that similar now that I reflect on it. ![]() _____________________

You know.. after 2 years. I have friends in all areas, I have people that come out and say they love me in no uncertain terms. I am told I am popular beyond belief (I've even gotten hateful IMs if I win contests). Yet I have never been one to be included on one of "these lists".
Honestly, I do not mind. BUT. I hereby set myself up as an example that popularity alone does not get you on a list! hehe.. I don't count Blaze adding me to his list, with his obscure explanation. ![]() I just personally find it facinating that some can claim it all has to do with Popularity, when in fact that is not always the case. ![]() By the way: I nominate : Maxx Monde Oz Spade Nexus Nash Misty Rhodes Jellin Pico Marilyn Murphy Cienna Rand David Valentino Trinity Serpentine Nala Galatea Lynn Lippmann Siohban Taylor MajicJustSue Johnson Beryl Greenacre Madame Maracas Corwin Weber Gracie Greenacre Tony Tigereye Eggy Lippman Darwin Appleby Devlin Gallant Shadow Weaver Kris Ritter Gwyneth Lewellyn Lecktor Hannibal Ace Cassidy Kate Hanks Fallingwater Cellardoor Kendra Bancroft Jade Lily Kex Godel Drift Monde ....... and honestly.. I could go on and on. Each of these people has made such an amazing impact on my life. Outside of those who already are well known. And this is not even a full list of those who I know who are never mentioned but deserve praise.. and is why I avoid these lists. Even the ones about "those who are not mentioned most". Because in all honesty, there are so very many in SL that we hear about and do not. It is only really how they touch us individually that ever matters though. ![]() _____________________
