From: Merwan Marker Have you, or are you considering downsizing due to the recent technical difficulties here in SL?
Land tier, content creation, less events, less time inWorld, other...?
Please explain.
_/_/ Do you mean the technical difficulties with the brains behind the operation? In that case yes, considering scaling down completely out of game.

From: Maxx Monde From my first land experience I tiered down and remain at 1,024. I doubt if I will ever increase that. I'm not giving up on SL, but I'm certainly giving it less opportunity to be a disappointment to me in regards to land and neighbors. I just tiered up and moved in near Maxx in Boardman. I'm going to build a violent lime pyramid there which spews particles.

tiering down as we speak.....
01-16-2005 04:17
Rysidian and I are tiering down at the moment.. we haven't been in SL much at all lately, and the tier fees are just too much for us at the moment, hopefully we'll be able to keep a little bit of land. I know this will sound silly to some, but it's sad, you become attached to this virtual dirt that you call home in SL, selling it off is heart wrenching, but at the moment our FL needs the funds more... so to answer Merwan's Q.. it's not because of technical difficulties (we havent been online to notice them)... just an economic decision...

Ferran and I didn't technically tier up, since we already were at the sim size tier... but we did trade off our 47K in Riiki for a nice 64K island sim. Might as well have all the land to play with since we were paying for it anyway.
So far the move to Chaos was a good decision. The extra controls are quite nice. The server has been good. We've been able to have a lot of our friends come back and hang out with us to build stuff and screw around... the way it used to be at Riiki before the sim got so laggy. All in all, enjoying it very much.
I have confidence the technical issues WILL get straightened out. As for changes to the economy. We never based our RL economics on SL economics, so any fluxuations in the economy won't affect our decisions to keep our island. I'm cautiously optimistic though that the rise in the $L will persist... which will impact us positively.

I sold my land in Igbo to buy elsewhere, as did another friend of mine. We were both surprised at how sentimental we became over it. When you've been somewhere for a while, (6 months in my case) it becomes so familiar looking and does start to feel like a virtual home. But by the same token, it's important to try new things and stay amused.

Tiering down... No way
01-16-2005 07:47
Neither Fey nor I are cutting back on any planss for Spellbound, even though we do not use land to do so. After Neverland, we are all "resting up" but look for us after a bit to do something fun...
As far as personal land, I have no plans in tiering down, and I certainly know that Mash doesn't either...
We love SL and what it affords us in creativity and fun... There are always kins, us "elders" have been thru it tons of times...

Technical Problems Reducing Enjoyment
01-16-2005 09:43
The continuing technical problems, which seem to be getting worse rather than better during my year in Second Life, have greatly reduced the amount of time I spend building little things for fun or writing little scripts for fun.

But by the same token, it's important to try new things and stay amused. I know hubby and I are thinking about changing from Island scenery to land on one of the Canadian sims. It's hard to do as I've spent so much time building what I have now, but.... it's going to be fun coming up with a whole new theme. I'm not tiering down, just possibly changing.

I have been flooded with land sales the past days. I had to tier up several times and had to lower my buying price by 0.5 L$ per sqm. I am still optimistic though and expect this to be temporary, at least if land release at auctions is handled appropriately by Lindens.

nope, not planning to tier down.
in fact bouncing around the idea of getting a private sim.
i don't sell much. i haven't got much time with my current course load.
but i still code fun little toys. and i like chatting with my friends. and with all the contests olmy seraph and khamon fate run on our group land i get to see some of the best building in sl. and i go exploring alot; much cool stuff to see out there.
a focusing on the problems can be very discouraging. but there's much more good in sl than there are problems.

_/_/ Yes, but not for any in game reasons. I haven't been around much lately. Just taking a break from designing and being in world all the time. No worries. I'm not leaving or anything. I've just had a rough couple of RL months and now am trying to finish all the stuff for my RL wedding.

Not tiering down. Having much fun building a giant mecha lab / hangar / store. For the amount of time I spend in SL, it ends up being pretty cheap. Entertainment in many cases in RL (for me, at least) is often more expensive and less fulfilling. It feels good to challenge myself on builds / avs / scripting inworld. So I just tiered up. Heck, it's cheap to do so lately. =)

I'm noticing more reports of people thinking of Scaling back their Second Life involvement due to this week's login difficulties.

Hehe, I rent...so...I guess I dun count. But I'm thinking bout moving out and seriously not logging in as much cause I'm fed up to here *Jumps around waving her arms as high as possible above her head* with the problems I've been getting in SL. The annoyances outweigh the pro's (for me at least) considerably.

SL is no different from other online worlds, in that many people think of leaving when problems become severe enough to adversely affect game play. Once all is said and done, the majority of players will stay (or return once the problems appear to be resolved). Those who are less addicted may leave for good, but they are a definite minority.
I haven't decided which category I fit into yet. I had already tiered down. I'll wait and see what happens when they apply their "fix" on Tuesday.

Not tiering down just yet - but I certainly am not gonna tier up anytime soon. I've scaled back already in holding events like I used to do, teaching classes, and doing fun seminars. I mostly work one on one now. Even if you throw an event just for fun, its discouraging to get tons of IMs the next day from folks who just couldnt even get IN SL to attend. I'm learning and re-learning how to build, so maybe I'll start up some basic very basic basic building classes once/if things get sorted out better. I've also scaled back on referring people here, and scaled back my "duty shifts" at the WA, as I am rendered almost immobile within 1 hour of entry in that location. Nice thread Mer - you always come up with interesting things
