it SUCKS! I like to post replies when I like an item!! It's fun going through the forums reading replies to your posts. why take that away?? So you'll have a nice orderly list of new items by date? how boring! They made a classifids section in world for this kind of thing just because its crappy doesn't mean they shuld ruin the forums too which actualy worked well. It's a forum, & people like to post, & they just took away half the fun. I swear their just looking for something to do. FASCISTS!!!

Forum replies to classifieds are nice if not abused. Unfortunately, they were being abused in a big way. Trust me.

I'm not going to go into detail but if youre really curious, ask me.

I have one or two hundred examples i can give you :)

hmm i do agree with cani.. when i posted a new product i do like to hear the replies to it.
kinda of the point isnt it.. discuss a new items, give oppinions.
now it just turns into advertising only...
tho i wont go hitting wif mah shoe.. those apparently are toxic... atleast last time i smelled they were.

I'd rather have them abused then not be able to reply. Stopping replies is a quick fix that isn't worth what your loosing.

I respect your opinion. I will say this though, I can tolerate people bumping their own threads with alts or having their friends bump their threads for them, but some people were being treated very unfairly on the classified forums. IMO, even if only one startup designer was hurt on the classifed forums, that is one too many. Unfortunately, it was hapening to more than one, and it was occurring much too frequently.

Im just the messenger :)

...does anybody want examples? I want to give exampleeeeeessssss lol.

Yeah I want examples.

I can understand it not being fair but IMO that's not a sollution. It's like solving the 'items being resold for higher/lower prices' problem by eliminating transferable items! It's an extreme sollution that takes away too much.

A better solution to the problem would have been to make the forums sort on original thread date, not last post, so that a million "OMG THAT IS SO HOT!" replies would not keep bumping something from 2 months ago to the top over and over.

Just a shameless plug I suppose, but the classified forums I set up when they were going to get rid of these are still there at http://forums.sluniverse.com (with a shortcut directly to the classifieds at http://classifieds.sluniverse.com ) . The forums allow replies, and are thread date sorted, not post sorted, if anyone wants to use them.

Pros:

People don't have to worry about getting thrashed for releasing crap (even if they deserve it) so they are more likely to post new items.

No more items popping up from previous months due to a bump.

Cons:

Say I post a new item, and immediately after I finish 10 other people post new items. I'm at the end of a long list no matter how many people like what I've got. Not everyone looks at EVERY new post.

<edited to remove ignorance> :D

I don't know if I see the point in moving the discussions about new items from classifieds to the rest of the forums where it will either a) not happen or b) clog the rest of the forum areas with what are essentially forced double posts.

I don't either the only place we had for mindless appriciation of new products or questions regarding them was the new products forum. They should have made a "shopping" category with new products & shopping & not stuck it in "classifieds".
Half of SL is about shopping! Let us have our fun!

I don't like a post from two mothes ago popping up either but it doesn't disturb me so much that i'd eliminate the optiion to reply!!! I'm still waiting for an example that will make me change my mind. who was so brutely hurt by new priducts forum that this needed to happen?

Yay Lindens! Just how dumb are you?!

Well, I shall simply post what I want to say in General in future and reference the Classified Ad.

I mean really, you have to be a few pork pies short of a picnic to make the fucking Products WANTED forum post only!!!

"I need an XYZ!"

...

<Deafening Silence>

We all know you wanted rid of classifieds. So crippling them beyond usefulness is our 'reprieve' is it? Nice work! Another outstanding decision, LL!

I have to agree that making the classifieds forum post only is a terrible idea.

It's a much more powerful tool if we can see how people respond to new products and ideas. New content is an important part of what makes SL an interesting place. I kind of like the classifieds forums - we're free to express how we feel about products without worrying about being accused of commercial promotion. (because that's what it's there for!)

I like reading classifieds - it's generally a much more positive atmosphere than we see here in the discussion forums.

I disagree that "one abuse is one too many". Baby with the bathwater and all that.

Perhaps we could have two versions of the classified forums, one post only and one discussion, and allow cross-posting. Then everyone can be happy.

edit: This is more or less how the script library works, and people seem to be happy with it :)

I'd like to hear LL's take on this ... it appears to be a bad idea, maybe it's just another attempt to pull the classifieds out of the forums and into pay-per-ad?

I'd also like to know how long the Lindens intend to actually keep forums open for residents to post stuff other than announcements, technical questions, scripts/design help, etc. It seems that they are becoming more of a headache/liability to the Lindens than they are worth, lately. I'm sure that no where in the TOS does it guarantee us residents access to Linden-administrated forums, especially when there are other player-run ones available.

You know ... excellent point.

As SL grows, the forums will be inevitably unscalable.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but if there was a way to default the sorting in the classified forums by original post rather than by last post it seems this would achieve the same results without taking away the ability to post followup comments and questions.

Edit: Yes, it has been mentioned, sorry for the repetition.

Yes it has been. But this point may bear repeating, just in case there's a way (because there most certainly is a will).

You know what? your right. In fact, why should we use SL at all? there are plenty of other services available. Why bother the lindens just cos we want to trade ideas & opinions regarding SL.

Lets all do LL a favour & leave the forums & SL! They shouldn't have to deal with us nagging people just cause we USE THEIR PRODUCT!

Sorry to disagree but I think Post Only is a brilliant idea. The end of sycophantic bumping posts from friends.

Now ducks

I am bumping this in the hope that people will do what Cristiano suggests, and use the functionality that he has retained and the Lindens have not.

Wow has 4 million people and forums for each server, professional, class. When SL hits 5 million, they can complain about not being able to "scale" the forums.

And post only is a great idea.
