From: Enabran Templar Second Life isn't a game, folks. Don't believe me? Look how much money you lose when you go off half-cocked. Calling this a game is going to become some dangerous shit for people who don't understand the very, very real risks involved,
This is an fascinating parallel to how gambling is commonly retermed as "gaming" nowadays. I know how serious this place is when I heard peeps say "It's just a game" and then the next day, become extremely emotional (and not necessarily in a bad way either!) because of something that happened in Second Life.

From: Enabran Templar It proves nothing of the sort.
It proves that failure to thoroughly research your investment before making it is a certain way to flush your cash.
No one needed to lose here. Telehub land is still perfectly usable, very nicely flat land. There's still value there -- just not the surefire, miserable, enforced value of a needless traffic funnel.
Cry not for the end of telehubs. If blacksmiths had had their way, I'm sure we'd not be driving around in rubber-shod, metal deathtraps today.
Nothin' wrong with horses, right! Ah... yeah, got a point there... I guess I should leave the metaphores to the pros. And yeah, relax, Kane, your land will still be there waiting for you, you just got to adapt to the new situation. You're still in the running to at least break even.

From: Kane Kent I just spent 40 grand on a spot at a telehub now people can just warp anywhere I will lose the traffic I would be getting. 40 grand isn't that much. There's a really gorgeous green hillside in Arches that's going for 60. But, really, if you paid 40 grand for telehub land, you was ripped off whether P2P is coming or not. And if you did it any time in the past few weeks because you didn't know about P2P, you just aren't paying attention.

This agains reminds me how a little sliver of info can make so much fo a difference. I mean, on the offline stock market, investors rely on this kind of schtuff, don't they?

If you have a unique service or product (and it sounds like you do) some advertising and word of mouth will bring people to you. P2P will bring people right to your front door! People look for stability, trust, and quality and will pay for it. Look to the future and adapt accordingly.

Land speculation is always risky. Why you think it isn't just because this is your Second Life, and not your First, is wayyyyyyyyyyy beyond me.

honestly...

when i go to places to shop or explore i disliked the telehub areas.. i get trapped..they are sometimes lag monsters..and i never pause (unless lag makes me) -- i fly straight up and go to my destination..
i dont want to be rude..just found them sorta like.....a giant rush of textures in an area and ..i had my mind made up before i got to the telehub where i planned to fly and the shop or area i wanted to explore
it seems some build high at the telehub areas, so i have to fly up ..and sometimes i get caught in buildings or walls ..lol ..making me feel like a fly in a spider web...but i still continue on my merry way..to my predetermined destination.
Maybe ..if the hubs are "nice areas" ...... i would be willing to use them still ..but as it stands they are more of a difficult distraction to me.
I really hope i have not hurt anyones feelings. So if its a good product or shop I would guess this new option should help all concerned..even the telehub shops. I can fly right to yours and not get confused with a hundred shops in one tiny area. its kinda like "who moved my cheese" change happens.. and good luck with all with the new changes... SecondLife keeps getting better and better ..

From: Kane Kent We maybe quiting I own 3 accounts all on prem my friend owns 2 and I have many other friends that play that may quit.
We worked hard to earn a spot at a hub and now hubs are going become usless tomorrows patch?
Thanks linden. this is like what SOE did to SWG! diffrent type of game but same idea. They distroyed it! Sorry you lost out on a risky land deal. But do you really expect LL to cater to the risk takers as opposed to the greater good of the environment? They made this decision to make SL better for everyone in the long run. But these decisions will affect the economy one way or the other and some of us will lose money to the market. And others will gain. That's capitalism. If losing money causes you to quit SL then you probably don't see any more value here and might be better off playing somewhere else.

Due to having a home at junction of three nice quaint ocean sims... but 800m from a telehub, I'm quite welcoming the ability to teleport direct. Due to also having group business land 600m from a telehub, I am once again quite welcoming the ability to teleport direct. Right now, when teleporing to Awa, you appear at the hub two sims south and one sim east... and that particular telehub sim is usually running at <0.5 time dilation. I am quite happy hoping that I soon will never have to port to that sim ever again. The only other option I'd be happy with would be to allow us to have more than 1 home point. But that probably won't happen.

It's funny you post this because I was just working on a project to market to people like you. Kane, IM me in world or email me. I may have something to help with your advertising. It is almost complete with very successful tests. We can discuss the "rules" of my method if you are interested.
