Because that's my title. "Content" is news and help guides. I repeat once again, I am not in overall charge of the Stratics Second Life site. In fact, there's nothing I can do that would even remotely affect your presence over there, even if there was a reason to, even less so simply because you seem to be attacking me at every turn without justification.

Go to "Control Panel", under "Display Preferences" you can change the 'skin' for the forums to one that you like. It's called "Style Sheet". We all have our own preferences - no reason why you should particularly like a default one. It's why there are choices.

The difference is that the TSO site was the official TSO forum, paid for by EA, controlled by EA, with extra rules that goverened what could and couldn't be talked about.

The SL forum is, however, not goverened by any other rules except the few basic global 'Stratics rules' which are mostly common sense and general to many online environments.

You can change your colour scheme too, in the control panel. I happen to still be using the TSO skin but that's my choice. There's plenty others to pick.

It's not peddling, by the way; it's an on-topic discussion, as many people have views and opinions on Stratics, I am merely attempting to address the points raised. And if, by doing so, I have to advertise http://sl.stratics.com once again, then I see that as a legitimate part of the discussion - after all it is the subject of this post.

I don't like stratics because:

1. I don't like to see ads for other games smeared in my face.
2. There are usually only about 5 new posts a day.
3. Click here, then click here, then click here, then click here, then click here, now you're where you actually want to be.
4. To register, if you use the links that are logical, you have to pay to be on the forums, but if you get directions and go through several menus, you can --actually-- (gasp) register for free.
5. I'm not into going to a site that 1 or 2 users plug in 9 out of 10 posts here on sl forums.

I just checked it out again, and it's still lame.

Point 1. Those adverts enable you to have Stratics free of charge. There is an option of a small subscription, to remove the advert, but it's optional. Remember too that Stratics is a multi-game MMORPG forum site, not just one small forum on one game, and many of the adverts will be of interest to other online gamers.

Point 2. All forums need to grow a user base, and are small when they start out. If you aren't there contributing, then you can hardly complain about the lack of posts. If everyone felt like you on every forum, none would have any posts. That's why we're having an awareness and recruitment drive, to make people aware of Stratics as a credible alternative to these forums when they close.

Point 3. Not sure exactly what you mean. If you'd like to contact me in-world some time I'd be glad to find out exactly what you're clicking, and there may be a better way - or easier way that you haven't discovered.

Point 4. See point 1.

Point 5. It's all about awareness. Have you complained similarly about all the other people who post "their" forum URL in their signatures?

A signature is not the content of a post. You use every opportunity you can to somehow work all kinds of topics into becoming a platform for you to promote Stratics - not in your signature, but in the content of your posts. Hell, you used a thread on death threats to promote the fucking site.

Yes, it was the subject of this thread because conveniently, this was posted in General, even though it was simply an event announcement for a site that has been open for more than 6 months. This entire thread was about promoting Stratics, although, as usual, it backfired.

People use the forums to promote their "products" in all sorts of ways.

Show me where I have broken the rules, if you can.

When you think of how many other things are promoted in the forums, I really don't think you can say that forum posts aren't appropriate to be used for product awareness.

If you'd actually taken a moment to read the news announcement, it was not "just an event announcement", it was for the NEW AND IMPROVED, MORE COMPREHENSIVE FORUMS, plus the opening of our in-world presence.

Remember that we aren't forcing anyone to come to Stratics. We're simply making sure that people are aware that there is somewhere that they can go once these forums are nerfed.

If people didn't keep raising points, which I am responding to, then this thread would probably be on page 2 by now. So I hardly think you can really blame me for being defensive over something I care about and am part of. I'm sure if someone was to come here, having never visited your store, and said "your product X is crap", you'd not just let it pass by without comment.

If you had tooth pain, the solution may be tooth removal.

If you are losing official forums, the solution may not be stratics as much as it might be.

Scratch that second one, with stratics history its more like a 1 in 100 chance it is the solution.

I urge people to check out Second Citizen or SL Drama for alternative forums. Both are far superior to the crap being peddled here. And yes, it is peddling.

Notice that not once in this thread have I expressed my opinions on some of the other forums that exist, because it would not be professional to do so. Yes I have opinions, but you don't need to know them.

I challenge EVERY SINGLE PERSON here who is saying 'Stratics is crap' to sign up, post, and hang around for a month, participate, and see how you like it. Then, if you really don't like it, you have a legitimate reason to not continue. Until then, unless you participate in something, you really don't have any reason to criticise - especially when you aren't providing an alternative yourself. It's like saying a restaurant is crap because the neighbour (who you don't like) goes to a hairdresser whose milkman's brother works in a store where the owner's sister once cut you up in traffic. Guilt by association with no other reason - simply saying "I'm not going there because Lewis posts there" is frankly pathetic.

I won't. And its not becauseyou post there (otherwise Iwouldn't post here). It is because friends I trust have told me stories about it. They say its crap and there are enough stories I trust their words.

One of the first rules of the internet... never trust a second hand, unverifiable story, however many times you hear it. You know Elvis isn't really working in a takeaway down your street, right? Chinese Whispers is a dangerous game to play.

What's the problem? Afraid of being proven wrong when you find out that Stratics actually is quite good?

I've not heard anyone else having an issue getting to the page, and I've just tried it on Firefox myself and got the front page (http://sl.stratics.com) and went to the "Forum Index" without crashing.

Can you PM me anything more specific? I might be able to figure it out, or pass it on to the technical team.

With all due respect, I think your advertisment of Stratics have turned into a negative-advertisment. People do not like being forced something over and over, and I feel most people have seen Stratics. It's just the way you pushed it on people that's got a few people riled up.

I think some of the best advertisments are the ones that are not so in-your-face. The ones that are subtile work best with most people. In positive advertisment, you don't want to force something on someone, rather let the product (in this case a forum) speak for itself. Cause chances are that something forced on someone would just do the opposite, ie. people would avoid what your trying to sell/showcase.

Also the one person advertising something just feels a bit odd.

It may seem like a 'one man avertising campaign', but that's probabaly only because from the Stratics staff I'm the one most active on these forums.

And, as a lot of people are attacking, I'm providing the defensive side, and that's all. I can't force anyone to post anywhere, and it's just as easy to ignore as it is the latest gorean furry ageplayer arguments.
