Perhaps they are wishy washy.

Perhaps they are trying to be accommodating in light of their failure to keep our personal information secure.

Perhaps they want to avoid having to process the additional outburst that would occur if they did close the forums on day of such an event: hundreds or thousands of posts and emails from people complaining not only about the security breach but also saying, falsely, that they didn't have time to find a third party forum.

There's nothing wrong with extending these forums a few days, but the reason given doesn't make sense, it's just not true. The "forums are closing in about a month" statement was made about a month ago. It takes but a few minutes to find and join a bunch of third party sites.

If a month wasn't long enough then how can two days be long enough?

Yes it is too, true, Suezanne. There are LOTS of people who have never come to the forums at all, remember? Who don't care about them and haven't been following all the news about closing, and about third-party problems, etc.

Yet EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL IN THE GAME was affected by suddenly not having their password.

So all those people are going to come to the forums to reset their password, and to get help from other players when that doesn't seem to work.

Second issue: If they had closed the discussion forums, that would have just made everybody go to WHATEVER they could still post on, and that would have started off the other forums on a very, very bad foot; being the only forums where people could vent.

It seems that you are not allowed to download or view attachments on this board.

Otherwise the kiosk procedure seems to have worked fine.

Had the general and sandbox forum been closed two days after the initial announcement made a month ago, people who wanted to communicate through forums would already be signed up with one or more non-LL forums. You don't have to be signed up with them all.

The worlds of SL aggregator site seems like a worthwhile approch to keeping up with news and rumors.

The IRC EFnet #secondlife channel is probably not a bad source for info.

Odd, EVERY time, or just the first time?
