I will, however, give a fair warning to the folks wanting to go to SecondCitizen: you will be eaten alive there. Repeatedly. It's not really a good place for discourse unless you know the folks there already. And even then it's just sexual innuendo and pie jokes.

Plus prokofy is there. Who wants to post next to Prok?

SL-Forums.com has sections for that. We are not drama free but we do have a balance.
SLdrama.com is also one that has tips, etc on it. Despite the name it is not focused on drama though it does report it.

Yes, it's those bloody people to blame. Forums would be okay without them. Anyone running a thriving forum with no people involved?

As to some of the other issues I've seen people discussing here...
IP addresses: The only people who will be able to see IP addresses will be the moderators and the only moderators are the "owners" of the site and of the sim it is connected to. But given that the other two owners are much more busy than I am with lots of other things, the moderation itself of the forums will be my job. The friend finder thing though is theirs, I know very little about that part of the site.
Frankly I haven't even glanced at anyone's IP address yet. I do see it as a way to check if I am suspicious that someone is using an alt account to either create problems or to harass anyone. That's how I plan to use it, just a way to check up if I have a suspicion.

Moderation: I've posted the guidelines and I think they're pretty simple and pretty loose. We're all adults (or supposed to be) and I don't think I need to babysit anyone. We should be able to say what we want to say without actively trying to hurt anyone else. I would interfere when I see that happening, one person setting out to intentionally hurt another person. I like to think that more policing than that really isn't necessary.

I could be proven wrong and we'll see I suppose. I may be eating my words at some point. *shrugs* We only started setting up this website recently, just about a couple of weeks before the word came out that these forums were closing... I guess the timing is good for us, though personally I'm going to miss the hell out of this place.

I would like to stress again, please don't think that because our new forum is reached through a bdsm club website means you have to avoid it if bdsm isn't your thing. The website is VERY tame, there is no pornography and the forums themselves include all subjects, even a thread called "silly stuff". What you'll see is the word "Forum" at the top of the page because that is the name of our group and you'll see an events calender, some stories about things that are happening in SL, a link the to the Linden blogs, and the friend finder link, etc.
As Cindy mentioned, the "bdsm" in the url may be a hindrance for some people at work but it is not an indication that you'll find anything embarassing if someone glances over your shoulder.

If your going to make a forum or moderate one learn from the best.

I've been on SLForums and Second Citizen and these and I think all the sites have their good points and their bad. Personally I plan to still browse them all as usual.

As a very neuteral peson I want to post my observation about secondcitizen in regards to that statement above. Again this is my observation for myself not including anything about anyone else.
I do not "know" people there. I have read posts by them over time. I have yet to meet any of them in world ever. I dont have many posts there yet, but I have yet to be eaten alive. I registered, got an avatar and have been reading threads and posting some. I feel welcome there. I dont have a sense of looking over my shoulder or feeling like I am going to be jumped on there. I am quite sure the day will come when my post will not agree with the others but that is anywhere. In the meantime as I said, I felt welcomed and I did the one requirement (pick an avatar) that I was asked to do.
Try it out before you decide it is not for you. That is all I am saying.

Hooch is registered on Sldrama, which is very mild on the drama side, and thus far not as populated as it might be, but i do enjoy the scrolling coverage of the drama... that is brilliant
