Ok, if this is the end, we need to decide where we are going to go

From: Lewis Nerd The problem - if you can call it that - was the TSO forums were the official ones, and had extra rules and conditions imposed partly because of the teen rating of TSO, and partly upon EA's insistence.
Each Stratics forum has its own 'personality' if you can call it that, and would strongly recommend that you at least give us a try. After all, isn't prejudice bad?
Lewis You two really should get a room for this - aem scratch that, maybe we can dedicate a forum to it. So that you can tear into each other all you want and get it out of your systems.

I'm afraid I can't offer a solution to meet Ellie's requirements. One of the main reasons I established a Forum was to serve the resident-to-resident support system I've enjoyed here. While verifying accounts would be important to avoid "assuming" another's identity, I also hoped to serve as a place for potential residents to ask questions which is something the offical forums never really serviced (despite the occasional Guest posting). Both the site and the hosting service have been paid for two years in advance. I currently have 200GB of database storage and 1TB of monthly bandwidth. I had hoped this would be sufficient for the current level of Forums traffic, but am willing to expand it if the need arises. I went for one simple thing: familiarity. I copied these forums structure, purchased the latest version of vBulletin and got everything up and running, as well as hosting some other Second Life related features such as Topsites and my Handbook project. Anyone interested is welcome! http://forums.slhomepage.com

Don't forget the programmer's forum....

I built a forum specifically for libSecondLife, but I'm extending it to cover other aspects of SecondLife and general programming.
This is a very tech-oriented forum, so it's not for the majority of users. However, if you know what multi-threading is, you know the difference between ==, =, and :=, and your idea of a hot Saturday night is sitting in front of the LCD with a pizza in one hand and a Pepsi in the other, you'd fit right in.

1. Thanks Flip for the offer of the script. That will be a valuable resource to someone starting a forum. 2. I am a mod at SL-Forums we welcome you to try us out of course. 3. I have accounts at quite a few boards and love to browse them all. I have mostly posted at sl-forums but I find all boards unique and filling a niche. Honestly, kudos to all the owners of these boards. Paying for bandwidth and trying to satisfy the masses are not easy things sometimes. 4. There are two forums that required me to sign up in world to record my avie key. There may be more, but I only found two. Now that I went to my bookmarks I guess I only have one of them saved. Sorry but here is one: SecondLife Drama Anyway, forums are like a good cup of coffee. They come in many flavors but all serve to stop the caffiene shakes. It will be hard to find one forum that meets all four requirements, but good luck. You may just find you don't have to settle for just one...

What's wrong with trying to explain to people that their opinion of something is wrong, and inviting them to come and look so they can see? I'm trying to help people come over to a quality forum where there won't be so much of the trolling and fighting that get in the way of useful productive discussion. Have you tried yet? Lewis

Lewis I don't know Lewis, since you are a mod at stratics are there special labeled areas for the GLBT communities that are properly labeled so you can avoid them?

From: Clubside Granville While verifying accounts would be important to avoid "assuming" another's identity, I also hoped to serve as a place for potential residents to ask questions which is something the offical forums never really serviced You could allow people to register and post, but when they register, check to see if they are trying to register with an existing avatar name, if so, they would need to register inworld to verify their SL identity. A person's SL-identity verified status would show in their posts, those who are verified would have their SL join date shown as well. .... Just because a site says it uses means to verify SL identity doesn't mean readers can trust what they see on a site. The person running the site may know who is real and who is not but the people reading the forum don't know if the person running the forum is honest.

I am not a moderator at Stratics in any capacity. I have no say over what happens on the forums. My responsibility as "Content Manager" is purely for new player help guides, and an input on news. I shall ignore the rest of your comment as you know as well as I do it's taken out of context. Lewis

From: Enabran Templar It would really suck to have earned an indelible reputation as a bigoted, weak-chinned asshole.
I feel really bad for anyone who would be saddled with such a burden. Perhaps the factionization of the forums will provide a new beginning for such individuals.
But probably not. Sucks for them. Quoted for truth.

SLDrama.com and yaslf.com both use in-world kiosks to verify avatar identity when joining.

yaslf.com has an in-world registration kiosk, an operator who is not a complete flaming asshole (It's me. I'm human and can be cranky sometimes but I'm not usually downright vicious) and right now the forum policy is essentially 'don't be a jerk' I'd love to see more people over there, the signup directions and more information can be found here: http://yaslf.com/discussion/1/yaslfcom-information-and-announcements/

From: Lewis Nerd What's wrong with trying to explain to people that their opinion of something is wrong, and inviting them to come and look so they can see? It's their opinion, Lewis and by definition cannot really be "wrong". It's just an opinion. On the other hand, your belief that you have the job of correcting their mistaken opinions says something else entirely. Don't forget, the Edsel didn't sell because people had a bad opinion about it. But they were probably wrong, too.

I'm sure that if someone was to say on the forum that whatever you sell/build/whatever was basically crap, you'd be defensive about something because you were personally involved in it. I'm not sure what Edsel is. Lewis

Lewis maybe if you made it with ALL CAPS and bolded it and added a few exclamation points (followed of course, by any written version in any language of the numbers one, eleven, or one hundred eleven) I might grasp this concept

Lewis That's not the issue, the issue is that you *WANT* to.

I want a forum for shopping, leaning about textures, clothing, scripts, etc. The drama can be optional.

From: Lewis Nerd What's wrong with trying to explain to people that their opinion of something is wrong, and inviting them to come and look so they can see? Are you serious? Tell me the above is a joke, because if it's not, then we're not even living in the same reality - physical or virtual. An opinion is personalized interpretation, it's not fact. In your opinion, Stratics is a nice place (to you). It doesn't make it a nice place. It only means you think it is. Some may agree with you, some may think it's a living hell. Both opinions equally valid for the holder. *wanders off shaking my head*
