I am thinking that the Art Schools out there spend so much time teaching their students how to rebuff the "Qualified Critic" because otherwise they would never sell any of their stacked together items that get called art. I myself am an artist, and for someone to call a thing like that actual art, with passion, has got to be joking with us and hoping that someone out there is crazy and stupid enough to fork over 100 US dollars for it, That is just my "Qualified" view of this piece

I would say that art is when you put some effort to express something. I don“t see any sign of expression nor effort in that textureless 2 prim corkpop. _____________________

Humm.....Little Old Lady Thought

Dearly Darlings,
At best I would call this pedestrian. I would not have it in my home. Art is very subjective. I'm one of the lucky few artists on the planet who married an egineer so I won't ever starve. I can pick and choose projects and if I don't like you...I can just say no. Here in SL I do dabble some in art. This is a new art form for me. Being a "Prim Whore" it's been an intellectual excercise to produce the best idea with the fewest number of prim so I did "snort" a little when I saw that piece. I work by commission only and the money you spend on my art here all goes to the charity of your choice, from those that are available here in-world. My latest piece will be displayed at the opening of the new Metaverse Messenger building on August 12th. It is the fountain that graces the atrium there. I hope you enjoy this work. Ever Yours, Mrs. Showdog Tiger _____________________

Oh yeah, also Do you think they mean a huge prophet? Cos I'd much rather have one of those in the first place. Think of the conversation starter it would be! Yeah, gonna sell it for a Moses ![]() _____________________

I am amused, but some idiot will likely buy it. Ah well, capitalism at work. Can't blame the guy for trying.
A friend of mine sold a tumbleweed on E-Bay for 40$ US. The problem then arose of figuring out how to pack it for shipping so it would arrive in reasonable condition. Ended up building a masonite box to put the tumbleweed in. Spent 25$ US on shipping. _____________________

You all are missing the point here.... This is actual dental tape used by Phillip Linden.
This piece is priceless. _____________________

I can't believe you all can't see how brilliant this piece is! Witness the humanity within its helical form - like a reflection of our own DNA. Or perhaps it is a meditation on the profound solitude the artist feels - being just one prim in a vast sea of thousands, spiraling upwards, yearning for truth. The minimalism speaks volumes of meaning... or volumes of - something.
Or maybe it follows the great modern "art" tradition begun by Marcel Duchamp with his "readymades". see Duchamp's "Fountain" for its historic predecessor: ![]() Actually I think its a joke. I don't think its a scam (or art) - its probably someone poking fun at "modern art" or the absurdity of how people can ascribe value to something worthless. If you look at his other items on offer, like his "answer to the universe" for L$1000 - I don't see how it can be taken seriously. Whats next? a wooden cube? I believe someone did that already. ![]() |

You know... by the way... this thread is actually giving 'buzz' to the piece. I applaud Axel, cause, it didnt cost him anything... and if it sells.... well, then don't we all look like fools....
Unfortunately, art isn't worth anything until after the artist dies. _____________________

It's a masterpiece. One of a kind, see the way the curls curve up and point down at the end, sort of tells you how life would end. The white on black talks about a broad deal of issues, and thus becomes unqiue for each viewer.

I think this all comes down to effort. Did the artist put forth enough effort to create this in order to charge $35,000L..... answer: no.
However, for popularity purposes, I could see how one would have this item for sale as a publicity stunt. VOTE FOR AXEL! _____________________

Axel, please let me know when texture prints of the original piece are available.
I'd buy a poster of the artwork. _____________________
