While the new classified options in SL 1.7 are an improvement, they are still not nearly as convenient or browseable as a web based medium. The current Finder in SL neeeds to be completely overhauled. The classifieds improvements are a nice step, but you should not take two steps backward while taking a baby step forward.
Additionally, the $250L fee, which may seem minor to someone with a steady income, is quite a barrier for entry for smaller businesses that are just starting out. Right now, the classified forums, while problematic because of your refusal to switch them to thread creation sorting instead of last post sorting, at least is a level playing field. To simply remove them and force everyone to pay $250L to advertise seems less progress and more just an attempt to sell more L$ to bolster the economy. It will unfairly hurt the people that classified advertising would help the most. Established residents who can easily afford the fee generally already have the product recognitiion to not really need to advertise in classifieds in the first place.
There is no reason the classified forums can't remain as a supplement to inworld advertising, especially when the new system is hardly ideal. The forums allow for much larger images, formatted text, and linking, and a far better presentation than the new classifieds system does. It is a major step backward to close the classifieds. Please reconsider this decision.

If they do close the classified forums, I do hope they add more categories to the inworld version of the classifieds.

I would agree with this only if they made changes to the way the forum classifieds are currently operating.
As has been said before, one or both of these two options should be immediately implemented in order to be rid of the "riff-raff.
1. Threads not bumpable, and/or
2. disable the thread reply button.

Methinks this conversation would go a little different if interactive HTML on a prim were introduced, and then Linden closed the classified forum.

Man alive, please keep the classified forums. I like knowing all the spam is happening somewhere besides the places I read regularly.

From: Eggy Lippmann If you close the classifieds people will just start advertising in the general forums. What Eggy said. Do Jeska and company want even more moderation hassles? The existing system isn't broken. Please don't fix it! Either make those forums no-reply, or set the default sort to original posting date.

As a hermit designer with no friends, my posts in the classified forums sink like little torpedoed passenger liners. But I never thought it was much of a problem, I thought it was pretty much understood that most replies were mates of the designer. So when I look for new posts, I skip the light blue ones that I've already read. I even check more than the first page! I certainly didn't think that bumped posts were a significant enough issue to close the classified section altogether! I hope that LL can reconsider this decision, or at least, provide some reason for removing such a useful resource. Cheers, Fairge

I don't see why the new method should supercede this method. They would complement each other, not compete or clash. And I'd have no idea at all what was going on at all in SL, cuz I don't DO inworld anymore

/stamp - I think at the very least the new methods should be tested and proven.

I would personally like to see more of a "bridged" method to have Classifieds inworld. As it stands, by the very forces of logic alone, removing the Classifieds forums and going solely by the inworld one is an OR approach, not an AND one, and since we don't have inworld HTML either, I can see flexibility limited this way too. If the Classified forums are to be turned off, perhaps it can be considered that the light shines brightly for some more time—an extension of stay—before they get put out and we make a fuller, smoother transition to whatever's coming next. And no, I can't imagine babies graduating from Gerber to big beef bones in the first two years either.
