Or upgrade your land...

I live in Blumfield. I doubt we'll get land next to where we live, but if there is a chance in the future after someone moves in next to me and they are permitted to sell after their 3 month wait time, I'd love to upgrade. Meanwhile I'll be looking for other land.

Actually I was thinking of more land. I just can't do that until I find the land that I really want. But thanks for the tip. :-)

Note that you can buy land anywhere in the sim, and use the prim allocation even if the parcels are not near each other. So if you buy another 512m2 in the opposite corner, you will still have another 117 prims available for use at your current place. Just make sure all your land is in the same sim and you can share the prims.

I can think of several ways to raise the prim limit, besides the arc of tech development. Why haven't they, maybe in small steps?

VzNevada, I have passed you a bunch of low prim houses in a package made by one of our group members. These houses are free and moddable and range in prim count from as low as 27 prims. There are about a dozen or so to choose from in the package.

If anyone else is interested, IM me inworld or pick one up for free at any of our Koni WorX or Kitty's Kuddles stores.

Palm springs modern, prarie style, or Modern minimalism. Witha little bit of thought you can make house on a 512 with less that 20 prims, with more like 25 as a target. It may look a little boxy, but ith some good texturing you can invoke more of a Shigaru Ban feel that a "Shuold be banned feel."

Admittedly witha 512 you are not going to be doing much decoration. I would suggest 1024 as a better lot size. Bur really for a modern house with all the bells an whistels, you are looking at lots that will give you at least 1500 prims.

There are people, like Lordfly Digerigoo and Juro Kothari, who have put a lot of thought inot SL architecture-take alook at thier houses. They do exceptional work.

Also, before I went out and shelled out mony on any prefab house, i would ask to see one in place, and find out every thing you can about setting it up, or getting it set up for you. I have seen a lot of utter drek for a $1500 prefab home that fits on a 512 or a 1024. As with everything else: caveat emptor.

I agree with everything you're saying. It would be great if I can finally learn how to build first. LOL! I know the basics, but the doorways and the windows stump me completely. Thanks for your help :-)

(one builder's opinion)

The first way to save prims is to figure out what you "need" in SL.

Too many folks spend way too much tier on extremely high-prim rooms. When you start thinking about detail in terms of land used, it starts getting ludicrous in a hurry.

A fully-stocked dining room table might cost 1024 square meters. A kitchen with food? 2048 meters by itself, easy.

If you're on a budget and still want a house, the best thing to do is come up with what you'd want to do in the house first. For most folks, that means hanging out in one way or another, either cuddling, sitting, scripting with friends, etc. Therefore, a good SL home needs a large-sized "living room", as it were; an open area that can be used for a variety of reasons, and designed with SL's wonky camera angles in mind.

From there, you extend your home from what else you may desire in SL. Need a quiet area? Build yourself a small, or even hidden, study. Looking for a romantic spot? Well, building on the ground might be risky, but some people do it; I'd suggest doing it up in the sky, myself.

So for most folks, three rooms would fulfill 80% of their home-related needs. One needs to be decently sized enough to house perhaps 10 people at the very most, and the others can be more intimate areas.

Buy some low-prim sitting areas, maybe some nice artwork, and voila, instant hearth.

Hopefully that helps some. Figuring out you don't need 50-prim salad forks is an epiphany everyone in SL should experience.

Good post and extremely helpful. Most of the ppl have been trying to tell me that less prims doesn't have to be ugly, and I agree. I've seen some gorgeous houses done with less prims...the problem is that now which one do I want? LOL!

When I first upgraded to a premium acct, I went buy-crazy. I wasn't looking at prims, and so now I have things that I can't use and spent money to show for it. This taught me a lesson...count before I buy. LOL! Count prims that is.

Someone posted that you sell houses? Are you listed in the classified. Can't hurt to look. I'm looking all over th world, since it's still SO new to me and so massive in size.

You said you have romantic areas in the sky...now that made me wonder...are you referring to the clouds in the sky...or a high leveled house? Just curious...sorry. Can't help it.

Thanks so much for your help :-)

search for Digeridoo in the Classifieds, you'll hit my store in Grignano. :) There's also quality homes there by Ingrid and Barnes, who make better homes than me for cheaper.

Those are called "skyboxes", and can be anything, as SL doesn't ahve to obey physics. You could buy a prefab and send it 700m up in the air, for instance.

I'm going to look for your houses and for Ingrid's too. Hers are gorgeous and I'm sure yours are fantastic as well. Thanks for replying. I'm having a blast in SL :-)

Do you have to pay tier money or buy land in the sky? Just wondering...LOL!

One thing - if your neighbors do decide they want to move from Blumfield (I don't think that would be you, since you are probably going to be active in the Neighborhood Association), I would suggest you mention to them that if they stay there for 3 months, they can sell their land.

And I want to buy land there, so whoever is selling at 3 months, I will be buying at least one plot!
