Humorous, but.....no, the signs will remain regardless of what happens to Dub.
yes, on the surface they look like the work of a tasteless uber-liberal BUT the fact that there is relaly only one message rather than dozens (environmental issues, pro-choice etc etc) kinda makes me feel that it is a ploy for attention rather than a political statement. Knowing that the USA is polarised as never before helps to get angry right wing people to add more publicity by their mostly un-informed comments (no offence to the right wing faction in SL, but you don't have too many articulate spokespeople on these forums do you?) and people like me and you who think we're helping by making what we feel are sensible comments, but we're just part of the problem too.

Anti-Bush sign guy has won on this issue, whatever he did this for is unknown, perhaps he is like the elephant man and lacks love- who knows, but we know that he knew what stings to pull to manipulate us.

The only way to get the signs to go away is to ignore them, but we have proven that we cannot so Anti-Bush sign guy wins hehe!!!

Actually this is a privately owned world, so there doesn't have to be free speech if LL doesn't want there to be.
yep yep yep read the tos people...LL can remove any content they want anytime, for any reason.

What is up with military types thinking they are the arbiters of free speech? How can someone with such a deep ignorance of our country's most deep-seated values be a part of the organization tasked with protecting us?

I am.

But I don't support violating the forum or game ToS. I guess anyone's free to express their opinions on the forums, or open a new thread if the same topic hasn't been up (or it's viewing the topic from a different angle).

Huns, to quote an age old oxymoron: Military Intelligence. Most people in the military aren't paid to think, they're paid to be cannon fodder. The military is often used as a tool for purging the general population of the intellectually, morally, emotionally and psychologically challenged. Those who survive are given a pat on the back and sent back out into the world. Don't expect miracles.

This thread has inspired me to go out and buy up all the 8 & 16 sq m plots in SL and put up flashing day-glo sign loudly proclaiming:

Die, Infidel Yellow Running-Dog Imperialist Lackey Yanqui Pig!

There, i think i managed to combine latino, arabic & asian anti-US sentiments into a single slogan.

When does president Bush term end?

'Impeach Bush'
For non-americans it sounds very close to an advertisement for a nifty wax gel. :)

Hello Laura, can i have my bush impeached on tuesday?

haha I almost fell of my chair on that one. Thank you for that. As of right now days left in office are: 1108 days, 13 hours, 9 Minutes. Next presidental election is in 2008 and will be in office in Jan 2009.

To the topic:

Why does being American only mean following blindly the president? Oh wait. That's not right either.. He has to be the Republican president. It's American to drag the Democratic republican through the dirt, but everything a Republican does is a god send.

Why is me saying that I do not fund your war different the saying you don't want to fund my children's education? My Grandmother's medication that she can't pay for? Or fund me if I get in a tragic accident and can no longer work? You aren't looking out for the base and the future of America and that truly is Anti-American.

But you don't have to listen to my opinions. Just chalk me up to being an lefty, gay lovin, war hating, anti-freedom, female (who should stay in the kitchen and be quiet), expat, anti-american. The thing is tho, I do have the right to voice whatever opinion I have, just as much as you do.

I <3 you :D

While I'm here... I am sooo embarrassed about this, but what do you say to your mother when she qualifies voting for Bush in these ways:

Election 2000: She got exit polled. She told them she voted for Bush because "Al Gore is an idiot." Well informed voter?

Election 2004: No exit poll bragged about. Her older sister "told her how to vote" and "she's just not being told how to vote" and this special gem "John Kerry did not serve in Vietnam as long as my brother."

I can't bitch-slap her for it, because she's my mother and violence never solved anything. Education is probably out of the question, because she "is set in her ways." The only person she really listens to about politics is my brother (Fox News addict). How do I ensure she never votes again??? :D

Maybe I should start a new thread instead of hijacking this one.... ;)

One example of a mainland area that doesn't seem to be afflicted with unwanted tiny plots with ugly things on them is Luskwood in the Lusk sim. How do Michi, Liam, eltee, Mina, & Arito keep a large area looking they way they want?

heh simple answer is we saw this coming a long *LONG* time ago, 2+ years ago as a matter of fact...

as one'f the first spontaneous theme areas, aka not linden sanctioned/sponsored, we got to get some of the earliest land-extortion stuff pulled on us back in 2003/early2004, and we immediately realized two things...

1) the land will always be worth more because people know we want it

2) no matter how expensive/ugly something is now, if you let it go it will only become more so, later

in the last two years we have systematically bought and 'liberated' every single plot of land that has ever opened up within sight of our borders.

*ESPECIALLY* at auction... i've never lost an auction, and i never will... because HOWEVER much that auction runs for.. the cost to you will be 2x greater, or worse.

one other interesting thing i've found is now that we do own a large enough block.. we actually have some clout back at the would-be extortionists...

basically we can say 'hey, you, neither of us are idiots, we both know that you are going to continue to pay tier on that plot, until i buy it... now... that can be tonight... or that can be a year from now... whichever way you prefer it. We know the land is worth more because we want it, but if you 'gouge' us unreasonably, you're gonna be paying for that plot for a goddamn long time, meet us half way here, and you walk away with a tidy profit and a chunk of tier free to go spend somewhere else'

part of the reason that also we can get away with that is lusk specifically, is a 'protected' sim... the only land we do not now directly own is part of a linden managed theme community, with VERY specific allowable building guidelines...

so while someone can try and 'extort' us for it price wise... they CAN NOT do any of the really terrible things, no signs, no spam, no particle explosions, no terraforming... all of those directly violate the theme area's charter, and people attempting that will be warned, and then evicted, by LL's land management liasons...

plus what you will find happening overall.. in SL... is a sort of 'fairy ring' growth effect...

and i don't mean its magical, a fairy ring is a specific type of plant growth associated with a fungal colony... there is fallow or barren land that is suddenly 'enriched' around the outside of the fungus colony, when the mushrooms reach it, and you see a huge burst of plant growth from the new nutrients, think of those like the new release sims..

plants/people flood there and grow utterly chaotically at first, but eventually this ring expands outwards, and the once violent and rampant growth first goes fallow once more as the resources are burned out (the charred dessicated remains of 'last months' new sims for example... but then, order is restored, some of the plant species survive, and then thrive as they get a solid stream of slightly enriched nutrients from the main body of the fungus below them...

the few survivors of the wild/chaotic growth learn to prosper together, and form a solid and stronger living system than existed previously...

thats sort of analaguous to the older sims begining to slowly re-organize under the leadership and vision of their long term residents...

its a slow process.. but it is inexorable.. thanks to the very small but potent group bonus, and the natural tendancy of like minded people to like living near eachother (the neighborhood clustering effect) there is a gradual and systematic pressure for this to happen... and it IS happening...

it started first with the street sims, those of us who stayed behind the rampant growth, and rebuilt the pieces, with blood sweat and tears, formed the first long standing mainland communities...

then it reached the color sims, which are also now mostly large like themed builds...

and its been spreading out more and more, the original southern lands have been slowly coaslesing, as have the snow sims lately... its not an overnight process and its not 100% ubiquituous, 'telehubs' actually damaged this process as their artificial inflation of land prices meant that land there suffered high churn, and low personality cohesiion between their 'residents'... but overall it is inexorable... 'island sims' also damaged this process as well.. the 'arbitrary' creation of land like that made it in many cases 'easier' to just jump off the world into your private fantasy sim than to even begin to face the effort needed to create a wholesome and themed mainland community...

there will always be 'noise' in the system, little bits of land here or there that never quite get sucked up... but with life, comes the inevitable march against entropy, the undenyable pressure to turn chaos, back into order... and SL will as a whole, benefit from that

but there will be more luskwoods, more groups of people realizin that they are more together than apart, and there will also be people seein that theres a buck to be made by tryin to screw them

I agree there are some idiots in the military, but that's a bit of a harsh thing to say about the military in general.

Seriously, great post.

The best thing I can advise is know your neighbours (I guess I'm lucky so have such awesome ones) ;)

And discuss with one another what you're going to do with the land, if one of you decides the sell (like one behind me did) my neighbour bought it so we didn't run the chance of losing it to the impeach guy (or something worse!), plus, we share land so it gave us some extra room! (We now own half the sim)

Sooo, get connected to those around you. It helps.
