I hold on to the belief that many posters have alternate selves which are hidden from my view behind their designated forum hitter.

This is good news! And now that you're feeling a bit better about things, I think it's a perfect time to nag you about the trolley in Boardman, which I love! But it keeps flying into one of the house on the corner and dissapearing at the end of it's route. Literally flying! It's frightening for newbies to witness. ![]() For some reason, imagining this and a newbie's reaction has me in near hysterics. Thanks Ingrid! ![]() |

Well played, Seth. You didn't even need to use your Epic Keyboard to reduce me to dazzled admiration. Imagine if he had used the Epic Keyboard tho Enabran, you'd be dazed and unconscious! *waggles eyebrows* |

For some reason, imagining this and a newbie's reaction has me in near hysterics. Thanks Ingrid! ![]() It's not just newbies. I went to visit Ingrid the other day while she danced with a box on her head, and the trolley came by and then slammed into the house next door and disappeared, scaring me. It was very traumatic. I was worried about what happened to the poor people on board. Imagine, being innocently out for a tour of Boardman, and BAM right into the side of a ranch house. Tragic. It really puts your second life into perspective. _____________________

The sincerity or intent of a poster can be a point upon which to react or not. For some the motive and intent of the poster are of prime concern as it is the basis upon which they will decide their next move and response. Another is to react to the ideas presented, address the words for their face value, with an understanding that the best way to dispel underlying currents is to pay them no mind. The many ways to approach the forum are as varied as there are ways to use SL. What Margaret said. Here, so brilliantly, and in subsequent posts. As for hair - well, I must have just a WHOLE lot in common with Philip! I still have my avatar I made on Orientation Island. And I still love the way it looks! Like me, only better. And a little more stylized. (I don't wear that much makeup normally irl, but, after all, SL is like a stage, and I have always tended to wear stage makeup in games.) And now, having read this thread, I know what "slider hair" means! Which I have. I have slider hair. That sounds kinda awful somehow. What was this topic about? Cause I could go on about the psychology of one's avatar at huge length. Oh yeah - Blaze being happier with SL cause he's happier with the forums. I know what he means. And unlike others, I consider Blaze to be a complex individual who can't be written off with some sort of, "He admitted to being an alt and gaming the forums; therefore nothing he ever says can be sincere" approach. Before he gets too big a head from that, I also consider him to have a touch of some other things, which I won't mention. But in any case, I always approach his thoughts as Margaret does. And his thoughts have been more consistant than they have been incosistant, even though they are more inconsistant than the thoughts of many if not most others. It is better without so much fractiousness (is that a word?) in the forums. And in all games/environments, I think we can't help but be affected by what goes on in the forums. For me, that tends to affect my enjoyment in game more than it does my displeasure or lack thereof with the Lindens. But I suppose it does seep over to the Lindens a tad, and for Blaze, it apparently does so more than a tad. All online games/environments one is involved in and cares about are like this, I think, if you involve yourself in the forums as well. My own SL is going pretty nicely. There have been some very bad times for me, but I have persisted and nowadays I'm pretty darn cheerful, which is actually my usual personality. I knew I'd get back to it eventually! And actually even enjoying the game AS a game, rather than doing nothing but retreating into work in it, while waiting for things to get better and me to feel better. I have persisted, because I knew that this game was made for me, too, and for everyone else (including Blaze), not just for a small number of individuals on the forums. And before I get the "this isn't about you, Coco" comment - and indeed, in this case, I actually did talk about me - let me say that people should be able to talk about themselves and their own experiences in SL legitimately. As Blaze did when he began this thread, which is about personal feelings. Not just some people, but all people. The thing I have most hated about these forums is being told to hush up and be quiet - no one ever told me that before! But, like Blaze, I really do think things are improving here. And whether or not they are, I'm more able to separate myself from forum things now and have fun in my own right, which is what all of us who want to participate in the forums, no matter how they are, should try to achieve. I always knew that, of course, but knowing it intellectually and doing it emotionally are two whole different things. coco _____________________

I went to visit Ingrid the other day while she danced with a box on her head... It wasn't a box, it was a brown paper bag with holes cut out so I could see. I was having a bad hair day, what can I tell you. Khamon was wearing a massive pumpkin at the time so I still felt prettier. The Boardman Trolley is a tragedy waiting to happen. One of these days, it's going to fling some unsuspecting passenger into a wall. And then we'll be sued. _____________________

Forum Performance Art byblaze (Sorry, I couldn't resist. ![]() Just to set the record straight, I regard blaze as a brighter, wicked-er, more creative version of Don Quixote de la Mancha, jousting at windmills not out of senile idealism, but with a sly sense of humor. I'm serious about the performance art thing - because the method has become the meaning in these kinds of forum dialogues, and yet that approach does show us something about ourselves, and how we react and what we take for granted. This thread is strong proof of that. So there is always some value in assessing the motives of a poster, because sometimes those motives reveal an idea larger than the mere sentiments expressed. blaze remains on my list of People Who Will Survive the Revolution. But I fear we will have to imprison him, even so. Even if we do, we'll give him his own video talk show. _____________________

I am but a humble servant of the People, madame, and occasionally I have the honor of bringing color to their lives, and making them smile. I'm starting a movement to save the trolls! If they are indeed endangered, then we need to make every effort to save them! Trolls have the right to thier forum habitat. Haven't we wiped out enough species already? Now we are trying to wipe out the troll population??
You should all be ashamed! ![]() _____________________

My feelings towards/against the Lindens have never been based on what others thought or said - on the forums or in-world. It was based on LL's own actions, statements, deeds - or lack thereof.
Since they've done little to change that, my own opinion hasn't changed any. Forums trolls or not. - Newfie _____________________

Going back to Blaze's original post -
Why is that? Why am I no longer angry as I was before? The answer is pretty simple: the forum trolls have all left. Except for a couple of die hards, one by one, practically every angry, mean tasting, personalizing and deragatory troll has moved on. Why do you think that is? I haven't quite figured it out. Ever since I joined there were major dramas, often painful to read. The earliest I remember had to do with high prim bookshelves. The dramas continued with a week break now and then until, well, it's a been a while but not too long - a few months? What changed? Jeska? The forum layout? Other things? |

Hmm, Who exacted this justice? Who are the Metaverse Justice Watch? Sorry. It was a joke -- an allusion to yet another forum drama. You'll probably want to skip that one, though, it was pretty boring. _____________________

I found the forums during a huge system crash as 2004 faded into 2005. Anyone remember how long was it down? Wasn't it more than a day? Oh, um, I remember that one. It was the day I visited the LL offices in San Francisco. Everyone was celebrating launching a new update, and looking forward to having New Year's Day off. Although many Lindens were winding down after their efforts, I was impressed to witness Andrew diligently glued to his Sim monitor screen in case of problems, and Jeska toiling through the forums as usual. Then we said goodbye and headed home, only to find the crash had happened just a couple of hours after we left. And of course, that meant they were all back in the office on January 1st, working huge overtime. ![]() I do hope it wasn't our fault... I know my husband managed to distract Jeska from her work! But I swear, neither of us touched any keyboards or electrical plugs or...! ![]() _____________________
