Hmmm, here's a better idea. Lurk until the 1.7 client is avaiable for DL and install it. Then, all being well you'll be able to log in in the fullness of time.

Wait until the grid comes up and get the 'auto' client update on login? No thanks.
It very rarely completes the download without freezing and by then the traffic on the DL page is much higher...

This upgrade could possibly be less painful than previous ones.

For one, all sims will now run at a fixed frame rate which may cause scripts to run slower but will keep Avatars from getting lagged/stuck while everyone is upgrading. Secondly, the method by which objects are transmitted to the viewer is new and may help the asset server from getting overloaded during the transition.

It doesn't hurt to be optimistic. :)

How will I know that the 1.7 client is available?

Just check the downloads page. It's generaly available an hour or two prior to the grid coming back up.

Two ways.

One, is to watch for a thread in this forum to the effect of "1.7 is Live!11" or "I'm logging into 1.7 now!" or some such. There's bound to be a few of those.

Secondly, just refresh the following download page from time to time. When it says 1.7 under the link, you'll know they have released it.

Just as I thought but wanted to be sure. Thanks all for your guidance. Appreciate it.

Already hooked you see, but too young to go into the preview. I wish there was a local server option... Like the blank white room in the Matrix

That way I could build things and test scripts without wiping out a region with my killer bird flue virus.

I usually use SL downtime as an opportunity to hunt for and/or create textures I keep wishing I had in SL, to surf various sites for ideas and inspiration, and all those other little things you don't have to be in-world to accomplish.

You never miss a chance to sound like a pompous asshat.

If people want to post threads about crashing and being trapped somewhere, shit not rezing, permissions changes and the like, let them. It is their right. Just dont read the threads.

And 1.6 whatever has prepared us for 1.7 today by teleporting 1/2 ass working.

EBONI EXPECTS INSTANT PERFECTION! NOW! AND WILL STAND FOR NOTHING LESS!

I understand, after reading Lordfly's very useful posting, that I'm supposed to uninstall SL. My question is: do I reinstall the software i have now, or do I have to download 1.7 from the website? Sorry if this seems stupid to ask, and thanks. :)

I personally haven't had to do this step. However, if you have uninstalled the old version..wait til 1.7 is up then install that version.

LF's opening post should be a forum sticky. Also, it would be very handy to use it as the opening blurb when you first log in during the weeks leading up to an update.

Can we maybe just get an auto-reconnect button?

Back in the old days.. BBS's didn't have many lines. Frequently you got a busy signal. So you just set your TELIX to autoreconnect after 30 seconds and then go do something else while you waited for the connect sound.

I <3 clicking close, end program, icon, logging in, close program, log back in, close.. log back in.. fail.. fail.. fail...

I only hope this update fixes the horrible packet loss we have been having since a couple of weeks ago :/

Of course we'll be sure in a couple of days when everything gets back to normal.

Well...Hmm...

If you give me about 20 minutes, I could script something up in AutoIt that would mimic that.....

but ... why??

Deamon dialing the SL login server won't solve anything.

Might be nice to have a big happy dancing hand-with-eye wearing a top hat and, er, holding a cane, winking in a friendly fashion and encouraging all that things will get smoother. Hmmm... that's really good idea for an av.

*makes notes*

I'm a bit puzzled how Isle of Bliss went from about 400 scripts yesterday to 2600 scripts today..

They're now counting "active scripts" to include all scripted objects worn by avatars and also all scripts in child prims, not just the parent prims, of linked objects.
