I think I'm at about 7,000 right now. I archive every now and then.

I also think the inventory count counts your Library folder too--altho I haven't confirmed this.

Confirmed an alt with 10 items in his inv has a count of 682 so it's really only significant for small inventories.

18923, to be precise...

And I haven't cleaned in months, and sometimes keep up to 8 copies of stuff, and also have like thousands of snaps... u__u; ugh!
I admire you on that one Willow, I don't think I'll ever have the courage to clean up.
I just wish it did not affect my lag, then I wouldn't bother! *sighs*

Woo.

8k here. And still boxing things up so I hope to bring it down even more. I threw a lot of old clothes into inventory organizers. And I have a box specifically for keeping stuff I got or made in my early months ... those are for sentimental reasons.

I have just over 13,000 inventory items and that's 5K less since I started cleaning out my inventory. I would love to read Willow's paper on inventory if someone would please either post a link or tell me where I can find it.

Thanks!

Willow you might mention that organizing your clothes and hair by designer makes it easier to avoid buying dupes of things you forgot you had :)

Oooh! That's an excellent tip. I do that myself, but didn't realise how helpful it is until you explained it. :D

HA! I wish, I still do that and some of mine ARE organised like that, I think something to that effect is in there, tho.

Feel free to leave a comment with it! :D

Subfolders a must!
05-16-2006 17:02
Thanks Willow! I like how you work your attachment folders.

I've found I find things easier under the clothing categories you mentioned if I sort deeper with subfolders. For each item (skirts, pants, shorts, dresses), I have a 2 common subs for each (individual and sets). For items like skirts and dresses I have 2 subs under each of those (short/long). Under each of those if I have a lot to sort which I do, I add a style subfolder (ie, fetish/goth, dressy, casual, gowns).

Tops are a different animal altogether though I still sort by type of top (camisole/tanks, corsets, halters, long sleeve, short sleeve, sweater t-shirt, and tube top). Under each of those subs I will sort again by style (fetish, casual, dressy). Perhaps I'm anal about it but it is the only way I can find things.

Example Subfolder Organization:

Skirts
> Individual
>> Short
>>> Fetish (meaning leather/laytex/pvc)
>>> Casual
>>> Dressy
>> Long
>>> Fetish
>>> Casual
>>> Dressy
> Sets
>> Short
>>> Fetish
>>> Casual
>>> Dressy
>> Long
>>> Fetish
>>> Casual
>>> Dressy

Each outfit folder's name is organized first by color as I usually know what color I want to wear or what color an outfit is that I'm looking for but I won't always remember the name or the designer. After the color descriptor in the folder name is the name the designer gave the item (usually in quotes) and/or a short description that helps me identify it better followed by a dash and the designer's name, business or abbreviation. It takes a bit more time to actually name a folder, but it saves me tons of time when trying to find something I want to wear.

Outfit name file example:
Blue & White "Arabella" Corset Gown - Nonna

By adding the designers name on the end of each outfit folder, I can sort by the name if I still can't find something specific.

Undergarments, lingerie and swimwear are whole different beasties, but I sort them again by type and style for the most part.

Not sure if any of this information helps other inventory challenged players. Just thought I would add my two cents and show an alternate organizational scheme.

For those with fewer items to organize, the depth of organization doesn't nearly need to be so deep, but if you like to shop as much as I do eventually you'll find yourself needing a more detailed method of organizing all your booty!

Wow, didn't mean to type so much. :eek: This is likely the longest post I've made so far. :)

I'm running around 5,960 right now. *mutters* I'd be more, but I tend to put somethings in boxes with labels.. if I don't use them much.

Thena gain....I have TONS of stuf packed in boxes that only count as one prim.

Can anyone imagine what a PRIM count of our inventories would be like? LMAO

~Jessy

P.S. And under 1000? You two need to get out more *Grins*

Would it be good to have a "convert folder to box" function?

Right click a folder, select "convert to box", the folders contents move to the box,the box has the name the folder had, and the folder disappears.

Well, at any rate, I have 10,000 or so items.

I once found I have a bunch of invitations to events long past, hundreds, so a search for "invit" produced an easy mass delete.

Just over 10k. I did a major cleanup and reorg recently - I was up over 13k.

I have always used subfolders, but it takes more than that to have a clean inventory - it takes discipline. Unfortunately, I am only disciplined in spurts, with regard to my inventory.

Might I recomend PixelTrix Dresser. I have no affiliation with them, no Lind$ coming my way for this, but I think this might actually help me.

I had almost 17k in my inventory last week. I packed a bunch up into crates and now it's like 15.7k. While packing up everything i freaked out when a full crate full of No Copy items POOFED! I Emailed support and IMed some lindens about it. The stuff i assumed was un retrievable. 2 days later one of my friends returned the crate to me.

I was like "OMG WHERE DID YOU FIND IT?". He said it was floating over the beach above a palm tree. I was puzzled. So i rezzed it. It poofed again... So i went to the beach and looked. Sure enough there it was! It turns out there was a script in my objects folder that had some llSetPos lines in it. XD *wipes forehead* I was sure that llDie was responsable...

Well after starting out with around ~4200 items, I've sorted my entire inventory (oooh sparkly and organised!) and I'm now down to around 1000 items :) And nothing's been boxed up. It's amazing how many duplicates and objects called Object you accumulate :) Notecards is an amazing black hole when you actually look at what's in there!

I think that's the first time I've ever tidied my inventory up.

*logs in to look* 14,643 items. I need to organize, but gah who has time? I wish it were possible to give temporary access of your inventory to someone else. Then I'd pay someone to straighten it up for me. :D

But then I wouldn't be able to find anything! :eek:

Just under 10k for me thanks to my recent organizing sprees! I got these Thinc inventory organizer boxes that work great (you can scroll through the items in the box and just click the box to retrieve it). I also put categories of photos on notecards, and also other notecards and LANDMARKS (this only works with things that are copy/mod/trans though). Notecards are easier than boxes for things you may want to look at (like photos) since all you have to do is click on that item.

Just shy of 15,000 items, and I am sure that could be reduced to 12,000 items with a couple hours of work. But what would be the fun in that?
