i can confirm that this would NOT be for new Woman magazine but it is for a very reputable, womens national. the reason i am not disclosing the name at present is because we do not want our competitors (new Woman for example!) to know what we are planning for our features.

If people are interested in being in the magazine then please get in touch with your story and then i will discuss further with you which publication it is for.

Sadly my partner is in hospital at the moment, having been rushed in on Monday night as an emergency, but once she is better and more feeling like communicating, I will get back to you. Just need you to confirm that I'm not too old; I'm 34 at the end of the month, she is 29 this year, I'm in London and she's in the US.

I just dont understand all the negative responses...as far as i am aware, all i am trying to do is promote this website, maybe convince a few more people to join, and generally write a positive feature.

I just don't understand your expectations. As far as I'm aware, nothing about your posts speak to your credibility or suggest even a minimal level of professionalism. You lack insight into people's caution when it comes to revealing personal information, much less exposing themselves to a journalist's selective representation of their story. You have not addressed whether you have cleared your solicitation through appropriate channels. You are defensive when faced with questions regarding your legitimacy and rebuff suggestions which might better establish it.

let me make the following points:

1)I have never asked for anyones contact details...at this stage i have simply said that if anyone is interested in being in a magazine then they can email me and i will discuss it further with them. It is up to them how much information they choose to disclose

2)Journalists have to be "selective" because we write for magazines which have certain readerships - ie, there is no point in having an 80 year old man talking about his cyber relationship if it is going to be read by young women in their 20's - readers like to read about people who are similair to them.

3)I have indeed 'cleared solicitation through the appropriate channels' by speaking to the PR company that runs this 'virtual world'. they actually suggested - shock horror - that i was sure to find some helpful people on the site

4) Other than posting my CV, Previously published work and references on here, i dont know how else i am supposed to "prove" that i am legitimate. I guess you will just have to trust me.'

now..there's a challenge!

Curious... have you actually played Second Life at all? I'd be more than happy to meet you in-world at a convenient time and place to discuss your article.

LL is a PR company now? My, that does explain a lot.

Anyway given your lack of grammatical prowess, spelling or anything remotely resembling capitalization I'm thinking, no, not trusting.

kthxbye

The name of which is?

According to previously stated LL policy all solicitations for media related interviews must be first vetted by and through LL and its internal PR department. Not some nebulous and as yet unnamed PR company.

If you really are a journalist you must really be quite the mare for your editor.

In all honesty, my editor and i were very keen to write something positive about SL...yet it seems that the only impression we are getting so far is a negative one. I would still very much like to write an interesting, informative feature on your 'virtual world' , so, - if at all possible - we could leave the bitchiness behind, then that might be a good start.

Tiff, as a journalist myself, I can see why people are being a bit hesitant. I've posted to a forum board looking for sources myself (not this one) and when I do, I always leave my real name, the name of my publication and a phone number. Sure, I'm putting some RL info out there, but I think that's fair. I am, after all, asking others to do the same.

A hotmail account just doesn't carry the same weight as an email at an established publication. I understand that you freelance, but could they set up an account for you for this purpose? Or could you at least have given your name and pointed out a few articles you've written?

You're asking people to trust you, but you didn't give them a lot to go on.

Now, as far as the overall attitude of the board... yep, it's bitchy. It's partly because they're closing the forum in a week or two, and partly the reason why they're closing the forums.

So that means you weren't vetted? What was the name of that PR company that actually runs this virtual world again? You know, the one that isn't Linden Labs?

Get a Linden in this thread to validate you and some might be willing to talk to you despite your glaring inefficiencies as a 'journalist'.

I'm happy to consider helping you if there's a way I can, I just would like some more details before I commit myself, that's all. Surely that's not too much to ask?

After all, much of the media focus on Second Life is all about making money or sex, neither of which are of much interest to me, and I could help you put across a more balanced viewpoint that very few other outlets have covered, for whatever reasons.

I'd be more than happy to talk to you, if you can give me contact information - PM me or contact me in-world if you don't want to put details in the thread.

Tiffany,

Without giving all the info here (feel free to partially edit your message), you could simply send it by private message to the people interested. If you click on the "Profile" link at the top of the page, you can enable private messages.

From there, you can send more info to people like Lewis more privately.

As Lewis said, She is currently in the US, so, as a journalist and mulit-millionaire myself, who also runs a profitable business in the condom making industry and having some REAL COOL snowboarding skills...oh did I mention I'm a pilot too (JUST THOUGHT I'D MENTION IT)...I BET she's CHINESE. :p

If you cannot name who you're working for, then maybe you could name with whom at Linden Labs you cleared this investigation?

Your attitude continues to amuse me; aren't you looking to be paid for this journalistic venture? I ask because you come off sounding like it is you who are doing your interview prospects the favor rather than they who are providing the means for your own profit. You consider any questions regarding your credentials or the pov which may color your article to be, first, a negative response and now, bitchiness. After expressing an inability to understand why you failed to receive your expected reception (in lieu of clarifying the points which were presented), I attempted to explain that had your presentation been made in an open and professional manner, none of the concerns would need be expressed here. If this style (or, better said, the lack there of) has been working for you and you're getting all the work you can handle, then it's all good. If not, perhaps you want to consider it all as a critique of your professional skills. At the very least, take the advice of the fellow journalist who posted here.

Answers these questions or I orbit you.

1. Name of PR company that gave you the go-ahead.

2. Name of the magazine that you represent.

Basic PR rather than journalistic skills.

I saw a contact number given, called it, left a voicemail, and whilst I was doing that tiff came back and removed that post. That was 30 minutes ago, I think, but haven't had a call back yet.

I've just had the embarrassing difficulty of telling my work colleagues who answer the telephones (in case I am not able to get to my direct line fast enough) that if someone calls asking for someone called Lewis, rather than my real name which I also left on the voicemail, then it's for me.

I'm waiting for the conspiracy theories to do the rounds as to who this mystery female (who did sound quite pleasant actually) calling me under another name. I tried to explain Lewis is the name of a character I play in an online computer game... but I'm not sure they bought the story.
