allegations of credit card fraud, suggestions of DoSing the SA forums, proactive "cleansing" of resident groups
get ahold of yourselves. some dork blew up a mailbox.
now people are saying his group is made up of criminals, that we should become criminals to combat them, that we should decide who gets to stay in world and who doesn't, and that old phrase "thier type"
your emotions are getting control of you. please, the actions of 1 person were far from a good thing, but put your torches and pitchforks down and relax
it's just a game (erm, platform)

Yup. I'm sure LL will take whatever action necessary to ensure no one person or small group of persons can bring down their entire service while we happily continue enjoying riding mammoths, building fountains or whatever we like doing in SL.

Well, the only thing I can say is that i'm very grateful that both LL and griefers are so considerate to plan al expected and unexpected downtime during the period that my main computer is in repairs due to a broken mainboard. Misery loves company. Thanks!

From: Pink Floyd So ya Thought ya Might like to Go to the show. To feel that warm thrill of confusion, That space cadet glow. I've got some bad news for you sunshine, Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel And they sent us along as a surrogate band We're gonna find out where you folks really stand.
Are there any queers in the theater tonight? Get them up against the wall! There's one in the spotlight, he don't look right to me, Get him up against the wall! That one looks Jewish! And that one's a coon! Who let all of this riff-raff into the room? There's one smoking a joint, And another with spots! If I had my way, I'd have all of you shot!
Thankfully, my totally scientific and accurate poll of a random cross section of SL residents *wink* has shown that the vocal majority of the "get them up against he wall" crowd are in reality, just a minority Please, lurkers, take the poll. right now about 80% could care less and would just as soon move on others still have "social cleansing" on the brain the mob is small, but loud!

If it had been during the day, I might have been a lil bit narked, but I wouldn't have gone nutso about it.

Yep, a mob. A Jack Thompson-esque mob. JT: "One of the columine shooters may have played doom therefore all gamers are psychotic murderers and must be shot" SL: "One person from w-hat had a scripting accident therefore all w-hats are criminals who want to destroy sl and must be shot" All over the grid going down for one or two hours. These people need to get a life. A REAL one.

A swarm of mosquitos can ruin a party, or your solitary enjoyment of your deck, even if only a few actually bite. A very few can actually make you seriously ill, but pretty much you think of them as simply a nuisance. So you go inside. Then you take steps to keep the area free from them so you can go about enjoying the outdoors again.
No drama, just dealing with a nuisance.

Quite a number of w-hats are furries, and the ones wo pick of furries just for being furries get banned from the group and the land. From: Lordfly Digeridoo "one SLer threatened a lawsuit therefore all SL players are fuckwits" It's not the fact that one person suggested it, its the fact that a majority actually agreed with him on it. Two or three hours of a video game being down are not enough to warrent lawsuits. Especially if it was by accident. LF

I actually think LL should hit back hard and strong in the legal arena, if in fact, they have a case. A civil/criminal prosecution will do more to deter this type of behavior than a 2 week or even perma ban alone. this wasn't unplugging your best friends puter as he was just about at a save point, it was in fact, as was pointed out by another poster, a DoS attack on a multimillion dollar hosting company and when Griefer 3.0 or whatever it was called crashes the grid, the accident defense is pretty much out the window

I don't know which part bothers me more
that at this point, almost 25% want to execute a few hundred residents for "guilt by association," or that 0% of you are spending time with your children (more people find W-Hat 1337 than spend time with thier kids)
priorities people, playform game, metaverse, whatever, this is truly scary

I don't know about all W-hats, but a select core of them have been harrassing my circle of friends non stop for weeks on end. I'm tired. We're all tired. I don't want excuses I don't want to hear that I can't blame all W-Hats. I'm not laughing anymore. I want them gone. At this point, with the year long track record of grief, abuse and nastiness, I don't feel the slightest bit of guilt at stereotyping W-Hatters.

From: Mulch Ennui some dork blew up a mailbox. If it were just one dork from this group, that would be one thing. However, this group historically has produced a large number of bad apples. All one has to do is search these forums and the picture becomes crystal clear. It really is sad that their energy is more often directed toward doing bad instead of good. -Ghoti

my biggest problem at this stage is that more people think this was as bad as murder than spend time with their children...

I think a little code probing is a good thing for the DEV team its always good for keeping the gang on their toes
if I worked for linden Id rather play with the hACKERS MUCH more interesting than a lost bling from inventory

maybe they should hire W-Hat to test the new grid for possible ways it could be brought down like last night. They pretty much brought LL and SL to its collective knees last night. What if a competing company thought to hire them instead and this behavior became much more common?

Autoreplicating physical objects is exactly 7 lines of LSL.

From: cloudy Varmint so what is "this" ? the equivelent to an idiot with a sledgehammer putting a few holes in a vacant house, or blowing up a mailbox as others have pointed out, self replicating scripts were indeed posted, just no one was stupid enough to do it, or do it on a mass scale hardly takes "skill" to use an exsisting tool for damage
