My question is, can they make it no-bump but yes-reply without putting themselves in peril? I honestly haven't used this hack BUT if it does what it claims to do (which it looks like it does) it would allow for you to reply but not bump it to the top. I'll see if one of my old boards are running 3.0x tonight and try installing it to see if it does what is necessary. _____________________

I understand there's a need for no bumping & from what i've seen almost everyone who read the classifieds is willing to settle for a date oregenized forum to allow new creators to show their creations w/out having their posts shoved down. I also agree if that if peopele are "suffering" from forum bumps so much then sort by date is something i'll live with to allow new creators to be heared. It's even easyer to navigate i'll admit that. What I *don't* agree with, & infuriates me beyond reason, is the "no reply" feature. Who decided that "good job!" isn't a reply worth posting?! Why are people campaigning against replying to posts?! Almost everyone agree to have the forums no bump, & yet people still yell at what a popularity contest the forums are! Let's ignore the obvious "no one is making you read it" argument. People work hard to release good products & if I want to reply to someone & tell them I'm impressed with their good work I should be allowed to! I don't stop myself from replying to someone because their not "famous/populer/my friend/whatever". a good product is a good product! & if i have a question, or comment, or I want to dicuss it, I should be able to! (& no, IMing the creator is nothing like having a community discuss the same question) Also, if someone isn't reading your post because they don't know your name no replies isn't going to change that. You want to be heared? post more products! Work hard to make good things & people will notice! Don't campaign to shut people up so everyone else will be at a situation that you yourself admit you don't like! Maybe there are people who only reply to certain people. I don't care. & if it doesn't bump the thread you shouldn't either. why you meassure your worth on how many replies you get compared to other people means your insecure, it doesn't mean the system is bad. The star system is a way for people to rate badly without having to admit they did it. If you think my product is crap then you have two options: don't reply or tell me it's crap. ANYWAY if you want the classifieds forums to be "no bump yes replys" please reply to this post with a yes, or "signed" or your name. If you don't agree then your against replies anyway & there's no reason you should reply here. PS- I asked a linden, & yes, you CAN make a forum sorted by date. & If you can't it would be nice if someone who works for LL bothered mentioning it. . Hopefully at some point we'll get enough attention from Jeska, or Robin, or whoever, & even if they don't bother changing it they could atleast tell us why they think it's such a good idea. Cos so far I don't see any reaction from them to suggest the reason they did it wasn't to save themselfs some work. Iagree Cani, i was really upset i couldnt say GOOD JOB!! on certain things i liked, the things i didnt. i didnt say anything lol but anyways. i wish they would change it back cause i really liked it. now i hardly post. cause ya haveta do it in discussion, nothing worth me reading PLEASE LINDEN CHANGE IT BACK!  no bump sounds good. lol but not my big importance mainly just to be able to reply again_____________________

Sorry, Canimal, I DO want it, and I have in fact posted in the Hotline saying 75% of us are in favor of it (according to my poll), and asking if there is some technical reason we haven't gotten it. I read Torley's blog entry about this and it makes sense however I'm not sure how true it is. I've posted the question of "is it possible to have the forums sort by origional post date?" twice offering it as a suggestion and this is the latest responose I got from LL.
For the most part the forums are for discussion. But they're also for announcements, Q&A, and even reference. The classified forums were originally created as a way to provide advertising. Since we now have ads in-world, we thought we would shut down the classifieds. However, a good case was made for keeping them open -- the ability to 'shop' when unable to be in SL, for example. But they really aren't discussion forums. You can sort by oldest post first -- under the date column just click on the little arrow to reverse the order. sounds like she misunderstood my question, also sounds like they don't want them to be used for giving feedback! |

Honestly, I just want it back to the way it was. I don't understand what everyone thinks the problem was. I don't understand why they had to change it in the first place. Complaints that popular designers were constantly being bumped to the top by replies and that some creators were using alts to reply and bump their ads to the top. This is what prompted the change....I like the reply feature but not the bumpability. I can't believe that the forums don't have the feature to sort forums by origional post date/time. Even my little free forum has that ability/option. |

I'd go for it though I don't know if it's possible with this kind of board. People are going to get replies anyways, Nephiliane has already started putting links to discussion threads of her new products in another section of the forums.
I do like that they're no bump now too so you don't have one designer that's famous getting 30 replies and knocking unknown designers off the forums. _____________________

I dont approve, I love that its not as cluttered looking now and its simple to log on, check whats new, and be done with it. No hassle. I say keep them how they are its so much easier this way.

I understand how a lot of new people who don't make very good things are getting their panties all in a bunch because they want equal screentime. But, like.. Get better, then? Haha...  As for bumping with alts, that's just sad. But who cares? I mean, honestly.. I think people are getting way more dramatic about everything than they really need to. No matter how they do the forums, some people aren't going to be happy. So I just don't see why they needed to change it at all. Just scroll on down the list and click on the listings you haven't seen yet. It's not hard. I would love for it to be Reply, No-Bump. But it sounds like that probably won't happen. So... make it so that all who rated are visible rather than invisible, and that alts can't rate using stars. This makes for a better response system that at least isn't used to punish new creators or people someone doesn't like for whatever reason. Also, if it is shown who has rated, and someone is rating himself/herself with all his/her alts, then this can be considered. Personally, I think no stars would be better as a forum pic doesn't always indicate the item's usefulness or overall value. I also liked the chance to give feedback on items i particularly liked in a set, etc. I never remember to do this in world and very few people have PM turned on. This means much less feedback for creators in world.
