Beta Client
09-02-2005 16:30
I'd love to see a Beta client as well. I was hoping Cedega would run Second life, but it doesn't seem to work. Winex works but its slow as heck. If I can't figure out a solution I'll have to cancel my 7 day free trial :( I'd hate to do that because this looks like a lot of fun(And I can't wait to try my hand at scripting)

You might as well keep your account as a lifetime basic. It's only $9.99 US. I don't think you'll get the free trial again if you try again within a certain time frame.

I haven't tried getting it to work yet with WINE and I'm not paying for Cadega. This machine is dual boot win xp/ubuntu so I should give it a go. My other machine runs Mandriva but is under spec.

Well, no point in even really maintaning a regular account until I know I can use it. With the winex configuration I'm using at the moment everything is painfully slow, and it doesn't seem to be using my videocard to its full capabilities. Cedega doesn't work at all, otherwise I'd use it.

I can always join again if the Linux client is added later.

We know it's coming - well we know that they've paid someone to do it.

I know it's a real pain as I have friends who won't join until there's a linux client. They wouldn't even do the free account giveaway thing earlier this summer.

I wish we knew about how far away the linux client is. If its coming soon I'd just keep my current account and experiment with scripting.

I feel your pain. :) Meanwhile I'm still running SL under a patched winehq-wine, but performance, features and stability are suboptimal (shaders don't work despite it being a FX card, there are some graphics problems, some asset glitches, the win32-alike layer adds too much memory overhead to not swap like heck, yada yada).

Yay! 1.7 has been released, now hopefully some more focus will be heading our way. =)

I voted yes for the Linux client, currently i'm dual-booting with XP just for SL.

As for the updater not working in Linux, I wouldn't know, but as it doesn't work for me on XP either it's not exactly as issue to me.

I was doing the same until, sadly, my Windows HD failed. Just goes to show you that Microsoft is EVIL.

I'm running XP now but with all of the crap I have to put up with for it to work properly on a daily basis even slightly, I'm preparing for a full shift to Linux.

69.52% of penguins say yes!

The rest say "arwk" and waddle about a bit wondering where the fish are.

I just ran into Cory Linden who was testing the Linux client. A few things like chat was currently broken though, but at least it looks like it's going in the right direction.
