But, if you need to have it be that way, go ahead, cause I'm just generous like that!

I'm sorry, you're right. I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

I think it's really cool they cover memory and stuff in AARP's magazine.

I'm a bit late to this thread. Oddly this topic came up yesterday too sort of and I posted this link . Note that it is old. It includes a post from Philip and some of his thoughts about eliminating the forums. Here is the quote on sluniverse.
Hey! First can I just say what a great forum and site this is. Clean pics, and I LOVE the Second Edition/Second Language sections. So happy to see real newspapers getting started - don't you think this is going to be a better way to get a feel for SL than just our website? So WRT to forums vs. SL forums, maybe third party forums are the way to go? Maybe SL shouldn't have an official one at all? Just a thought. Selador... c'mon, give us a chance, OK? We've never done anything to suggest that we want to censor people in SL... good grief look at the world and it's freedoms. Designing forums is hard and I don't think anyone has done it right - it may be an unsolveable problem. One thought we had with the new design was that more forum sections are better than fewer because you then tend to get less people posting to each one. There is a theory (maybe wrong) that the tone of forums tends to go bad once there are >150 or so people commenting actively in a section. Idea being that this is the scale where people stop caring about others in the local 'group' of posters - because they no longer can really know each other. We certainly haven't changed our policies on what to delete and so forth. And we try hard to not delete stuff except where it really hurts other people. We are learning. One thing that is interesting to note - the behavior of folks in SL directly 1:1 seems usually better than in the forums. I think that is so important! It is a proof point for something that I think about SL - that is has the power to make us better people - possibly by opening up so many freedoms for us (as compared to chat or earlier online worlds, etc). Anyway - great site and great forums. Happy to see it. Philip Linden CEO/Founder, Linden Lab, Second Life |
